Good stuff from Diaz. That was painful to watch though, Davis couldn't handle the reach and got taken apart standing, and then choked into unconsciousness. His right eye is a state.

You know what though, at least Fitch is relentless. And his control in any position is brilliant. How cheap is Maynard waiting till the last few seconds of the round doing literally nothing and then 1 takedown to steal the round.

More of the same shit from wrestlers. This kinda thing is really turning me off UFC. These "mixed martial artists" are all the same: big muscular guys that just LnP. They get warned that theyll be stood up, so they throw a few punches and go back to being deadweight.
Good point, Fitch always puts 100% into each fight, always working, so Maynard comparisons are pretty unfair
True, normally BJ's takedown defence is from another dimension. Although it wasnt in evidence against Edgar last time around... But yeah if there's one lightweight who can take Maynard's only tool away from him and stop him becoming champ then its BJ Penn.

Unfortunately Maynard's gameplan is very effective and I think there's a decent chance he could it to BJ too. BJ has all the ability to beat Maynard down but his conditioning and mindset is always suspect and I think he could be ground down by Maynard and lose a few rounds. Hope I'm wrong though, I'd love BJ to beat him good and proper, obviously I'm hoping he does the same to Edgar tonight.
I just dont want Maynard holding the title. So if BJ is the guy who is going to beat him, then I gotta pull for him. Of course Maynard could add things to his arsenal and I could end up liking him. But the current Maynard... Give me a break. I dont mind a wrestler who beats his opponent from guard and halfguard. But you've got to beat them up good and proper with lots of strikes and make sure they know they've been in a fight. Then its okay by me. Sonnen and Fitch do that.

Agree. Maynard's just about exploiting the rules, Fitch and Sonnen aren't pretty but they're battlers. Maynard would be a horrible champion.

I think BJ is just confused and has lost a lot of confidence. I think he's up for the fight, he has absolutely no excuse not to be. But he just doesnt know how to win this fight.

As they say, styles make fights. Wouldnt be surprised if BJ dominates his next opponent, anyone but Frank Edgar. Sort of like Franklin and Anderson Silva. It wasnt the end of Franklin when he lost the rematch, he moved up to light heavyweight and may end up with a title shot who knows? But he just couldnt beat Anderson Silva. And BJ Penn cant beat Frankie Edgar.

I think Toney could still be pretty lucrative to the UFC if they gave him the right fight, and there are some great fights around for him. Could give him Carwin as well perhaps. Having a wrestler take him to the ground and choke him out is one thing, but put someone in there who'd stand with him. If Silva danced around him or Crocop took him out with a LHK it'd be an even bigger victory for MMA, but the fights would be more competitive and Toney would be a very serious threat.
I dont think Dana let him have a fight because its lucrative though. As he said, Toney picked a fight. He had to prove something and show something that suggested that in a very short UFC career, he could hang with the best of them.

But he's not fighting Brock Lesnar or the other big draws and he doesnt make even a small percentage of the money Toney makes in boxing. I dont think he'll be interested in fighting those lesser known names, or the kind of money he'll be offered to do it.
