Toney is going to get reamed. Unless Couture is a moron.

The post fight interview will be funny. James will say Lesnar is ducking him, regardless of the actual result of the fight.

Yep. I reckon so too.

I doubt they'll be much clinching. Randy will shoot for the double immediately and drop him on his thick head. Game over.

Outside bet - Toney gets disqualified when he realises he's out of his depth and does something desperate like rake Couture in the eyes.

I'm going to be rooting for Toney, I love his smack talk. Felt the same way about Sonnen, even though I was sure he was going to get humiliated by Silva, so I'm not going to rule out Toney!

I've always had a soft spot for Toney, but it'll reflect really badly on MMA if he wins. Randy beating Toney doesn't really reflect badly on boxing at all. I like both fighters and I love both sports, so for that reason alone I'm hoping Randy does what he's expected to do. Can't wait for this now. I'm a sucker for freakshows.

I have changed my mind, Toney is arguably the greatest counterpuncher to ever live. In UFSHEE, I see fags lead with their face, dive towards the other guy, crowd them on the cage, etc. Surely that results in a Toney KO, right? You just don't do that shit to Toney, especially with little 4 oz gloves.

Right? :nervous:

BJ Penn was saying the other day a Toney victory couldn't be any worse for the sport than having a former WWF champion holding the HW belt, have to agree with him. Couture could be a nightmare fight for Toney, but beyond that there are fantastic fights around for him, and hopefully he will at least encourage more boxers to have a crack at MMA, maybe some with the time and drive to develop the right game.

In any case, he's a big personality and he can sell fights, and a run in the sport for Toney would bring plenty of money and interest.

That former WWF champion was a national class wrestler and a freakishly great athlete though. Toney is a punch-drunk blimp who lost interest in training for his own sport a long time ago, much less learning a new one. That said, I won't be able to stay disappointed if he does win. He's an arsehole but I love the guy!

If Randy is stupid enough to engage with him on the feet or shoot in for a clinch then he deserves to get ko'ed.

I only see him going in really low and fast for a leg, like he did in his debut against Tony Halme (?). The only reason he hasn't done that in recent years is because the sport has become so well rounded and it aint easy to take down strikers with very good wrestling defence (eg. Chuck Liddell).

Win or lose, I'd like to see Toney fight a genuine striker next who'd stand up with him - someone like Pat Barry. Can't speak for anyone else, but I'd pay to watch that clash of styles.

If a UFSHEE guy stands up with Toney he will get massacred.

Absolutely. It wouldnt be so much a clash of styles. More of a clash of Toney's fist and what used to be Pat Barry's brain.

If anyone is still standing there taking more than 10-15 punches, I'll be in shock. But I'm not sure the UFC will give Toney anyone who is stupid enough to do that.

Course here's how Timmeh got the first KO loss of his career

But then Mercer got beaten by Kimbo Slice and then quit after one kick from Bonjasky ...

Toney's a future boxing Hall of Famer, whilst Brock's two notable wins are Mir (Who's been destroyed by the likes of Brandon Vera before) and Carwin (We all know what happened there). Brock isn't exactly the most impressive of champions, considering the run he got to that title as well. Lesnar will never have credentials anything like Toney's, no matter what happens at UFC 118

He's barely started his career yet! I know you don't rate him, but its way too early to start talking about his legacy. The Iran Barkley and Jirov fights are two of my favourite ever in boxing - I'm well aware of what he's accomplished and part of me would like him to do well, but its hard to believe he's got another revival left in his career in boxing or MMA.

Standing up with someone doesn't necessarily mean you have to out-box them. As good as Toney's boxing is, I don't think he's in shape/or could get in shape to fight a younger, quicker fighter like Barry. If he moves around and connects with a few leg kicks, considering the lethal power in his kicks and the fact that Toney won't have seen anything like them, suddenly Toney's punches won't hit so hard.

Of course Toney could land a right and end it a la Mercer but the whole 'if Toney fights a striker he'll walk all over them' is exaggerated.

i remember watching some fight years ago where some ex pro boxer (someone quite famous but he escapes my memory) went over to japan to fight some martial arts fella, the only problem was no-one had told the boxer that this wasn´t a boxing match and when the martial art fella started to kick him the boxer started going crazy at the ref to stop the fight, after the ref gave the boxer a few quizzical looks the boxer decided to run from the ring whilst getting roundly booed and bombarded with rubbish.

anyone else remember this debacle??

I put some cash on Toney, i'm a big fan of his and i give him a chance. And with the odds on him you gotta say it's worth a punt because anything can happen.

That and the fact he looks in good shape and considering that when Toney is in good shape he wins i think he has a better chance than people give him credit for. I mean everyone is expecting Toney to have no idea what to do once he is in the cage but this guy is a fighter, he comes to fight and he is as hard as nails. He's taken huge punches from guys who hit harder than anyone in UFC history, and took it and kept coming.

If Toney has any sort of take down defense he'll knock him out. Of course Couture is the favourite but i think Toney has been shown little respect here. In the clinch it'll take one of Toneys short sharp punches to get Couture realing.

I'm flip flopping like crazy on this, but after watching this:

I'm finding myself rooting for Toney a bit, and believing he's got a chance too. Randy's got to where he is by being a smart fighter, but he's favoured the clinch for a long time now, and that could be his downfall. Not to mention that he looked like age might finally be catching up with him too against Vera.

Trevor Berbick

 Aaah yes, the Trevor Berbick farce.

"He's kicking me in the legs ref. Surely that's not allowed?"

Re: Randy vs Toney. Been reading a few recent interviews with Randy leading up to this and he keeps mentioning the clinch being different between boxing and wrestling (which granted it is) but I seriously hope he doesn't plan on going there. It might be Pyschology before he shoots in for the double but if he clinches with a roughhouse fighter like Toney he's only an uppercut and a hook away from being face down on the mat.

Roll on sunday morning...

Even Anderson Silva is taking shots from Chael Sonnen when they are standing and he's a great standup fighter with great head movement. He'd probably get knocked out too if he stood with Toney. There are just too many openings for a true world class boxer to exploit because these fighters arent trained to defend against that level of standup fighter.

The man is too clever and skilled at getting his punches in and with 4 ounce gloves his punching power is going to be through the roof.

It would be insane for anyone to have a gameplan to stand with him. Instead its kick or jab, shoot doubleleg, punch him in the face, work to mount and RNC him.

Essentially what it comes down is whether his boxing really translates into MMA and I think it doesn't, not to an extent where he'll maul any striker that will stand up with him anyway, the reason being twofold: first, the distance in MMA is different to Boxing and second Toney has a sideways stance as boxers do and likes to stand tall (leaving him susceptible to cheap takedowns as well) which wouldn't be effective in MMA. I think someone of a muay thai/kickboxing disposition would really have him in trouble.

Saying that, he is genuinely a world class boxer and if he really commits to MMA and builds his game around his strengths, he could be very good but at 42, I just can't see that happening.

Rumours around that Overeem's going to be fighting Aleks

Agreed, although I would LOVE to see Diaz get the shit kicked out of him.

Jon Fitch like performance from Lentz, shame

Osipczak got beaten too :(

That shit should honestly be cut out. He barely touched him, shocking to say the least. He just held him down for 15 minutes and waited for the judges decision

Good stuff from Lauzon, wrecked Ruediger's shit

Hoping Diaz takes this but expecting a Davis victory
