Nelson absorbing the punishment, JDS slowing a bit. Those uppercuts are brutal though, impressive that Nelson can take them. Wonder how Lesnar would respond to them :D

Most likely the same. But even if they dont knock you out, they are still a hell of a weapon to win a fight. Having said that, JDS would dominate the standup with Brock whether he had great uppercuts or not. Its going to be whether his takedown defence holds up - and it still looked good tonight.

Have never seen much of Nelson, impressed with his jaw but not much else to be honest. Ive heard great things about him, but he reminded me of any old shit fighter. Dos Santos seemed worried when he couldnt KO him though

Yeah, he was hopelessly outclassed in the standup lets be honest. But it would probably have been different if Nelson could have finished one of his takedowns. Because he's great with his BJJ, he's beaten Mir in a BJJ tournament a while ago. But obviously we saw feck all of it tonight because he couldnt get the fight to the floor.

And Guida beats dos Anjos!

Looks like dos Anjos tapped due to injury though

Looks like Guida was leaning on his chin. They say he probably broke his jaw in the round beforehand

Fitch wins in the usual manner

Come on Sonnen :D

If Sonnen manages to pull this off he's going to suddenly become one of everyone's favourite fighters.

Amazing round for Sonnen. But surviving the round means Silva can start on his feet and catch him...

3 rounds to Sonnen, guy's a machine

Starting to get nervous now though, no matter how great Sonnen's looked

4 rounds to Sonnen, Silva needs to pull something out the bag

Sonnen was awesome, I honestly thought Silva was going to take the piss out of him but what a performance, Sonnen was winning the exchanges standing as well

Rematch would be awesome

Credit to Silva though, took a real beating but pulled through. Something to be respected, unlike that Lesnar showing vs Carwin

Yeah a rematch would be great, but we'll see if that happens. Sonnen was great, but once again Silva was under par especially on his feet. So open. BUT he did show toughness and the cardio to stay in the fight till the last seconds.

I guess despite thrashing Silva for 4 and a half rounds and looking great throughout, we did still see Sonnen's 2 main limitations. 1) The guy doesnt finish. If only he could have put it on Silva when he was hurt, or submitted him from his man dominant positions. But Sonnen has to win by decision 2) He gets caught in submissions. Its a recurring theme and honestly, if someone was better than Silva on bottom they'd probably have caught him earlier on. Lots of respect to Sonnen though.

With all his talk he had to perform like that on the night, else nobody would care about the rest of the fights in his career because they'd know he's all talk, no matter if he repeated his trash talking trick time and again. But he delivered the right kind of performance to back it up and show why he was so confident and why he had no fear of Silva at all.

Silva blames ribs feck off cnut was smashed out until the sub

Anderson looked vulnerable on the stand up too, Sonnen was catching him. It'd be interesting to see Silva against Belfort (Which was the fight I wanted Silva to get over Sonnen), a top level striker

One thing - Based on what Sonnen did to him, a Silva fight against GSP would be interesting. Would love to see GSP move up in weight to fight him, maybe he'll be thinking about it now.

Silva hater i take it? You dont know anything about Silva's situation so dont talk shit.

Fact of the matter is that Sonnen was a human blanket for the majority of the fight. Sure he had some dominant positions but the amount of times the fight should have been stood up was ridiculous. Sick of all this laying n praying in MMA. I love watching the groundgame, mostly when theres a high level of BJJ being displayed. But the wrestlers are literally suffocating fights. Referees gotta be stricter and stand that shit up otherwise the majority of fights will remain uninteresting

Sonnen overachieved and Silva didn't look 100%. I doubt Anderson would allow this to happen in a rematch.

I hate lay and pray too, and I'm generally not fond of wrestlers in MMA, but Sonnen was working his ass off the entire fight, always staying active and keeping constant pressure on Silva using whatever he could, constantly working for position. He executed his gameplan perfectly, it was hardly lay and pray. Thought it was a fantastic demonstration of wrestling, and against someone like Anderson Silva as well.

i was watching it thinking, ok its fixed - shock loss = cash in on the bets + ppv sales for the rematch.

i think anderson got rattled in the first round with the first punch landed by sonnen and from then on he lost his composure and was too tense whenever he was on his feet.
did really well to hang in there and pull out a submission after getting battered for 4 rounds.

in a rematch though i reckon silva will feck him up.

i wasn't much of a silva fan untill i saw this :

Anderson was going to pull from the fight but he only went because that Shitty Sonnen will talk more garbage, a 100% fit Anderson wouldn't even be allowed getting caught by some of the punches he'd been caught with.

Sonnen thought wrestling is going to beat BJJ, I don't think so, if there was a rematch, I think Anderson will kill this guy in no time.

You do know that Sonnen got battered by Griffin twice and I reckon Griffin will also batter him even now and look how Silva outboxed Griffin, so again 100% fit Anderson will kick ass.

Dude SIlva is a total legend. Check out these:

Exactly, but this fight seems to have put to bed the theories that Silva doesnt have a great chin. He was taking shots to the face and just waving em off.

That was a comeback that all great fighters pull off at some point or other, I give credit to Silva for that, he pulled it off after being beaten up, but he definitely didn't look all there, his movement and flow wasn't as good as it usually from the beginning, is it age? or really ribs? I don't know, but it was one hell of an effort by Sonnen, good fight by him. Don't think a rematch should happen instantly though, Belfort is next, then Sonnen can have his fight, and HOPEFULLY Silva can retire at the end of next year with a fight with GSP who would be coming off victories of Koscheck and his rematch with Fitch, what else would either fighter have? GSP will probably fancy his chances now, and if he wins the title he could finish his career with plenty of new challenges at MW as well.

There was no lay and pray. He was consistantly damaging Anderson Silva and beating the crap out of him like nobody else has ever done. Tough shit if Anderson struggles to get to his feet.

Pretty tasty UFC.

Sonnen must be kicking himself after dominating for four and a half rounds then making a schoolboy error in the last. Credit to Silva though. He showed the heart of a Champion and that's what it's all about.

On a seperate note, Roy Nelson has a serious chin to go with that belly of his.

Dos Santos seemed baffled as to what to do with Nelson. It was almost as if he was a human punching bag impervious to any damage.

Roy's definitely a tough SOB. If only he had some amazing wrestling to get the fight to the floor. I suppose that could be said of Silva's previous BJJ opponents too. Fact is he didnt and they didnt, and thats why the fight was lost.

I have to admit I'm looking forward to Brocks Vs. Dos Santos as I expect thats what it'll be. And no doubt Dos Santos will ask some hard questions of Brock, with his striking and with what looked to be good takedown defence.

Absolutely. Dos Santos did well to hold back and not punch himself out. Some of those uppercuts he landed would've decapitated a lesser man.

I must admit, I fast forwarded the Fitch/Alves fight. If any fighter bores the shit out of me it's Fitch. I respect his skills but Jesus Christ, the man could put an ADHD sufferer to sleep.

The mere thought of him rematching GSP is a genuine option to counting sheep should I have my traditional Sunday night trouble nodding off.
