Hhaha Jurgen Klopp

I kinda knew, just had to find a way to point out that guy, someone's coach i think, looked like Jürgen Klopp

Despite barely winning, MvP's limitations were pretty exposed last night, much as McGregor's were against Khabib. He's basically a one trick pony with his comical striking routine and once you take him to the ground, he's suddenly becomes exposed like any other fighter would. A good grappler would therefore beat him with little trouble, just as Khabib did with Conor.

Spot on, I reckon.

I'd say you're doing a bit of disservice to Conor. He's got man handled by one of the world's best in Khabib but the wrestling last night was comically bad.

Same principle applies to both situations. If you are only a great striker, you leave yourself vulnerable to getting exposed once you encounter a great grappler/wrestler. It doesn't matter if you're a novice or a world class fighter, the same principle applies across the board.

Wouldn't mind so much but that where was the striking? That first round must be one of the worst rounds of all time.

I understand what you're trying to say but McGregor came up against an elite grappler and stuffed some takedowns and generally did okay all things considered. I was expecting him to be thrown around like a child. I mean your guy Daley is not a grappler at all, so imagine MVP going up against a very proficient one? Anyway, I know where you coming from its just that I thought McGregor did okay.

Ridiculous comparison.

Conor was just beaten by Khabib whose probably the best grappler in the UFC. Hardly exposed ffs.

Conor's wrestling was widely known to be non-existent or severely lacking. We saw it in Diaz 1 and with Khabib. The broader point is that a great ground game can completely neutralize a one trick pony fighter. See Conor/Khabib, DC/Rumble (1&2) and plenty of other examples.

He was taken down at will and eventually submitted on the ground. That can't be viewed as ok, even under the most generous of circumstances.

Conor vs. Khabib is not the best example as Khabib is one of the greatest wrestlers in MMA. A better comparison would be McGregor vs. Mini Mendes.

In that fight, McGregor was easily taken down and held down. Would have liked to seen that with a full camp Mendes.

What? He wasn’t taken down by Diaz, it was McGregor’s own desperate TD attempt which Nate countered. He was also badly hurt too so it was hardly reflective of his ability.

Conor did okay against Khabib wrestling wise. The biggest let down of the fight for him was not doing more in Round 3 when he kept it standing. He showed good take down defence against Alvarez.

It’s still a ridiculous comparison. McGrgegor is a world class fighter who struggled vs one the greatest ever grapplers and MVP is a relatively unproven fighter who got ragdolled by Paul Daley.

Stamina is more of an issue for Conor than grappling.

Mendes, as you say, didn't have the benefit of a full camp and still nearly managed to beat Conor. If his cardio was up to snuff he would've finished the job imo.

By the same token was training for Jose Aldo, a totally different style of fight. McGregor had hurt him pretty early in that fight too.

Not sure why this is becoming a McGregor narrative.

I think what @Raoul is saying is that no matter how good you are at striking, you'll be in trouble if you come up against a BJJ or wrestler and don't have the tools to defend yourself. Vice versa also.

McGregor is a good fighter standing up but his weakness is clearly stamina and nullifying the ground game of the elite.

Someone like Woodley is the whole package in my opinion. Man hits like a truck, black belt in JJ and is a great wrestler.

That's precisely what I'm saying. It doesn't matter if you're facing Khabib or the grappling king at your local MMA club, if you're a one trick pony who only punches well, you're likely to come up short against a top level wrestler/grappler/BJJ practitioner, because in MMA, the ground game is king and the best ground game will almost always beat the best puncher.

even with a full fight camp,
Mendes has crap cardio. watch his last fight.

Didn't McGregor fight Mendes with a torn ACL in that fight?

I thought McGregor did better than most fighters have managed against Khabib. Khabib's training partner Josh Thompson said they were very impressed by Conor's ground game.

Good wrestlers usually win vs good strikers and Khabib is arguably the best wrestler in MMA, theres no shame in losing to Khabib he's a monster.

Jesus that’s fecking brutal

Watching this Evans-Smith vs Lee and is it just me or does this Smith have absolutely no snap in any of her kicks or punches? It all looks so slow

This was her flyweight debut (usual Bantamweight), maybe the cut drained her. She used to be featherweight once upon a time.

Nice beat down by KGB Lee.
