The MMA thread

So apparently Dana White is close to signing Mikey Garcia for his Zuffa Boxing promotion. Quite the coup that would be, Garcia is a premier fighter and a highly sought after signature. Would be a big statement of intent from Uncle Dana, that’s for sure.

FFS this is getting stupid now. If, and that's a big if, GSP can make 155 he'll dismantle Nate. I assume the winner gets Conor (while Khabib has to wait or fight Poirer or something).

Can't see Rockhold and Gus being at all competitive since Gus has stopped Jones and DC from taking him down and Rockhold's defense is laughable.

Rant: why does Cody get another shot at TJ when TJ had to work so hard to get his shot after Dom beat him?

Why the hell should MM have to put his title on the line against TJ without knowing if he can make 125 first?

155 is a fecking mess.

170 is ok I guess, except that Wonderboy is probably the 2nd best guy but now can't get a title shot unless someone beats Woodley first (I'm actually ok with this).

205 is a mess now that DC has gone up. Obviously Jones being a perpetual screw up doesn't help.

Conor (and he's my favourite fighter, me being Irish and all) is seemingly allowed do whatever the hell he wants at all times with little to no repercussions.

Things I like are: 185 is finally getting back to normal (only after the sheer wankery of the last 18 months).

Stipe v DC (it fecks 205 but I feel DC deserves the chance and Stipe deserves the opportunity to add a notch to his legacy)

145! Somehow this has been moving quite nicely, probably to do with the fact Conor left and Holloway is an absolute badass of a Champion who just wants to fight.

Seriously though I have no clue what the hell is going on with the UFC anymore.

I couldn't see GSP getting down to 155 anytime soon. He said he wanted a fight that was good for his legacy, don't know how this is it. Diaz is a joker too.

DC threw Gustafsson up in the air like he was a puppy! I think Gus will smash Rockhold to pieces. Never know though, RDS has looked far more impressive since he went up to 170, but Gus is a bad man! Think he should fight someone lower rated for his first LHW fight, but Gus been out a long time so be a good fight for him to get back in the swing of it, and DC is fighting Stipe so why the hell not.

Cody / TJ - It's the only half decent fight to make since TJ has beaten everyone else, aside from Cruz who hasn't had a fight in 18 months. I'd have liked for Garbrant to have fought someone else too but I'd really like to see TJ smash him again. TJ is my favourite fighter in the UFC, love watching his fights! And the shit talk will be epic in the build up.

MM - Should have taken that fight with TJ. TJ adamant he could get down to 125 no problem. MM is a beast but no one really gives a feck as the competition is no where near his level. Once he becomes Champ with the longest win streak +1 or 2 fights he will have to fight someone heavier, and will want to "cement his legacy" (sick to death of people talking about their legacy!)

155 - Is a mess.

170 - Woodley has dominated that division and beat Wonderboy twice so there's not much else he can do right now, good time to have his surgery. Looking forward to the Wonderboy Vs Till fight. Till looked impressive against Cowboy and think he will have an exciting career. He's a bit cocky for my liking and I think he should really have another fight with someone who isn't the number 1 contender. Big step up. Think Wonderboy takes it. Exciting fight all the same!

DC / Stipe - Another really good fight. Good match up for both fighters. Stipe bound to be the favourite but DC is a monster.

145 - Another great fight lined up with Holloway Vs Ortega. If Holloway beats him he'll be sitting pretty at the top of the stack and will probably be on his way to fighting at a higher weight class soon enough.

UFC doesn't care about rankings it just wants to sell PPVs.

That cnut Dana White, can't believe he released Yair Rodriguez.

A fighter's union can't come soon enough.
What's the outrage? I must be missing something.

From what I've read he has rejected a fight with Lamas, and now rejected a fight with Zabit. Doesn't seem that unfair. He is not really in a position to be refusing fights and get away with it.

There must be more to this than just turning down 2 fights, how many fights has Nate Diaz turned down.

The Diaz brothers are big draws, as well as McGregor. As much as it sucks, the UFC is all about that big PPV. If you are already a star, you can turn down fights. If you are an up and coming star...things might not work out so well. Case in point.

I though this kid could have been a big draw for them esp within hispanic/latino communites. Maybe upon reflection they didn't think he was as good as they thought he was. There's certainly no disgrace in losing to Edgar. Maybe too much hype given too early to him esp when he beat a spent force like BJ.

Which just shows how messed up the UFC is. Diaz can literally take a couple of years off to smoke weed on a yacht somewhere in Mexico while other fighters are expected to fight several times a year or else.

exactly. White said the other day, and I know what Dana says, and the actual truth can be 2 different things, but I believed him on this one. He says contractually he has to offer Diaz 3 fights per year or else he as to pay him. Diaz knocking them back I guess voids the payday. I don't know if that GSP fight is a realistic proposition or not, but to think he's even in the equation for that must be infuriating to other active fighters.

Can't believe Dana cut Yair. He took a bad beating from Edgar, so he needed to take his time coming back. What the heck is Dana thinking.?
It's definitely a strange one. Clearly Yair was angling for some sort of tune up fight.

Uncalled for.

yep she should have wear the same Lion mask when she murdered Rhonda. Proper intimidation.

Last night at Combate Americas, Nate Diaz got into a fight with Clay Guida and Stockton slapped Tyler Diamond (participant of the current TUF).

Poor Yair, nobody told him that he can skip fights as long as he remains in the media for whatever pathetic reason.

I know the Diaz brothers are darlings in the UFC fan base but I really think they're scum. Well, Nate.
