The MMA thread

Anyone seen pictures of Ferguson's leg after the surgery? It's a fecking mess.

I can’t work out why he has such a massive scar for an LCL repair. I had a smaller scar when I had an ACL graft. Also, the staples look very amateur hour. You’d think he would want to everything possible to avoid a big scar (because he’s going to get kicked on it) in which case he’d be better off with proper nylon sutures. Must have gone to that doctor from The Simpsons.

Ngannou vs. Lewis could be hilarious after the first round! Could be like Kimbo vs Dada 2.

Glad Lee won, really like him and it's a new young name in an already stacked division. The worry is if he can make championship weight really, he didn't this weekend and has struggled in the past.

UFC has some options now with Porier and Lee waiting. Conor is obviously the 1 they want to take the Khabib fight but I reckon Ferguson is the one whos been hard done by here when he returns he'll be way down the pecking order.

I'd be surprised if the Ngannou v BB fight goes more than a minute.

Maybe he's doing everything possible to avoid Khabib

You can rewind to the start whenever you start watching, I always do that.

Fair play cheers I’ll probably watch start tomorrow (I think I only missed about 15 mins.) Rogan does my head in a lot and I rarely listen to his podcast this is good thoug...probably helps that it’s a current, relevant fighter

What did you reckon to it?

Really enjoyed it me he came across well Lee and can tell he’s hugely passionate about the sport. Really good interview, Rogan has to get in a reference to Jones and that failed drug test though!!

 still watching it, doing 100 things at the same time so keep pausing it and watching bits. Not even half way through.

Those two have sparred a few times before I think. One of my favourite boxers and mma fighter are friends. Cute.

Does he punch people with his stump? Or does he only elbow with that left arm? Fair fecks to him either way!

Yeah he does use it to his advantage for stuff like that. It's a weird one cos whilst it's an obvious disadvantage it could work in his favour as no one would of fought anyone like that. Good luck to him and good call by UFC putting him on Contender series first.

Someone's eager to get back.

She should win that one, at which point round 3 should be back in the mix with Rose.

I think Rose is a bad match up for her, I really do. JJ sets up her whole offence from her piston like jabs, and when her jab is effective (like against every other oppoment) then the ensuing violence is glorious to behold. Against Rose, she throws them, misses and then gets caught. I don't think JJ can change her movement and starting offence to prevent that cycle of miss jab, get caught....clearly she was in better condition, in their last fight and she did have some success with her kicks hut it's no where near the usual JJ masterclass of controlling distance, and pinpoint accuracy..Someone like Karolina or Andrade , however I could see walking through Rose through sheer physicality.

Rose is definitely more explosive but Joanna isn't far off from beating her. She came close this past time and will close the gap by the next fight imo.

This is the problem with fans who continually say Conor etc get shots they don't deserve.
JJ could get a shot every two fights v Rose until she beats her. Sometimes variation keeps the division from becoming stagnant.
I wouldn't be against a losing challenger facing a 3 fight ban from having another title shot.
We're lucky Jones got banned or we could be seeing Cormier v Jones 6 before it's all said and done!

I think every case should be analysed individually.

Some guys like Conor or Cody NoLove get shots they don't deserve from he UFC, that's one thing.

But Joanna defended her belt 5 times, cleaned up the whole division. She obviously deserved the instant rematch.

Other thing is the quality and depth of the division. Check the girls records, they are all crap, no one has a simple 3-0 streak. So its obvious that Joanna will be back into title contention if she can put just a 2 straight victories now.

You can argue Cormier also deserved his rematch, as he also destroyed the whole rest of the division.

But I don't think it's even two victories that's needed. Rose beats whoever and JJ wins, there is nobody else and I can't see that changing.
Say JJ beats Rose, does Rose get a rematch?
Wonderboy faces the same problem. By rights he should be getting a title shot every other fight but it doesn't sit right.

Disagree, she was smashed to bits in the first round and it wasn't remotely competitive. She was extremely fortunate to get a rematch.

She was obviously affected by the weight cut, her punch resistance being incomparable to what it usually is. Her responsibility yes, but the MMA world wanted to see.a true fight and they got it 2md time round. I thought she lost the rematch 3-2 .

I've got a feeling JJ will end up fighting someone else for the title as im not convinced Rose's reign will last long.

If you are right and they fight again after only 1 fight, i think that no matter the outcome, there shouldn't be a rematch right away.

Northing wrong with Wonderboy situation. He did have his 2 shots and blew it. Maia was the rightful next in line. Now we have plenty contenders ready for the chance at the belt. Guys like Usman, Ponzinibio, Covington. If Wonderboy wants another shot, he needs to fight first one of this guys.

Anyone can have a day off, anyone can land a lucky shot. For me it's more important if you were a dominant champion or not, rather than the fight itself. (Jose Aldo deserved his rematch in my opinion)

Each possible rematch situation should be analysed individually and taking into equation different factors.

Dominance as champion, the fight itself, the state of the rest of the division...

But feck it, at the end of the day, until the UFC is under some proper regulation, its up to Dana White who get the shot and who don't.
