The MMA thread

You're still talking about one man vs however many - that changes everything about the situation even if he has beef with only one of them. You should know full well these silly things are crew vs crew or whatever term you want to use.

Maybe they are but again my point was Artem looks an idiot in all this and the initial footage isn't THAT bad, sure it's not nice to do it but it looks like it would never turn overly violent. More of Khabib putting him in his place.

I never claimed I expected Artem to do anything either I just said he called out Khabib and Khabib responded. Conor coming over from another country makes Artem look a bigger idiot in all this again. Equally he'll probably get the brunt of it. The UFC isn't getting rid of Conor, they'd easily get rid of Artem though.

I’d love to know if his “entourage” really were SBG fighters, as reported, or if they were a bunch of the scumbag gangsters he’s been hanging round with. His coach seems like a stand-up guy and can’t imagine he’d tolerate a bunch of his fighters flying across the Atlantic to behave like tools.

Charlie Ward and Artem were both there and they are SBG Fighters. Kavanagh is an odd one he seems an ok guy but he also loves the attention and trolling as much as Conor. Whilst he wouldn't be involved himself I don't think he'd be overly bothered. Conor is his main source of income as well and has given him a pretty good life.

Such a clown. Are there any McGregor fans left? Hope he gets sued for all that Mayweather money

Got to love Dana White's interview, telling it how it is. Made me laugh when he said "Does anybody want to see McGregor fight?"...unfortunately there are millions of people who are even more pumped now to see Khabib and McGregor fight! I would love to see that fight but feck the whole circus that comes with it and McGregor getting any money from it

Meh, feck him also. He's the one who sells and rewards this kind of behaviour. He will make everything to make the fight happen once the dust settles.

Guy is a fecking idiot. Aside from the fights he has managed to already cancel, what if it affects those in the process of cutting weight, which is hard enough anyway.

I am stuck between wanting him cut and gone for a while and also getting him in a cage with Khabib asap so he can maul him.

I'd be happy if he never fought in the UFC again. Or if he accepted Khabibs offer of 10 vs 10 :)

You ever watched the 5 v 5 mma bouts? They are vicious!

In the childish world of 'beef' this is the representative of one 'crew' losing a tremendous amount of face on a world stage (viral) getting hemmed up by a man and his entourage. It is, in those terms, every bit bad and silly enough for the 'retaliation' that followed. Let's not act naive here: it's tit for tat of the worst kind any slight between the two groups will be taken to farcical extremes.

You said Khabib putting him in place, too, you know how that'd go down like a lead balloon for Conor's group of merry men?

Artem getting cut or not will be dependent on what Conor can wrangle when it comes to negotiating and his terms, I'd think. Of course, after the arbitrary posturing and gesturing when soft bans etc are completed, we'll see how things look once the dust settles.

I don't disagree with your sentiment and the whole crew thing is ridiculously lame (it has been since the Diaz brothers tried making themselves out to be gangsters) and I just think the whole thing makes Artem look stupid. I'm not disputing anything you're saying, I don't blame Artem for not going mental at Khabib etc on his own. I just think Conor coming over and helping him looks so sad and pathetic. For what it's worth I think Conor loved the situation cos he had an excuse to be centre of attention again.

Maybe so, I think he's lot a lot of leeway really though with this, maybe OTT at the moment but I think it's obvious the UFC were keeping Artem around cos of Conor and will no longer need to do that.

To be fair to Dana White, he said rhetorically as if why would anyone want to see McGregor right now?

It's obviously not staged, because it looks terrible on the company but he is a business man and will probably be thinking...ban him for a year, strip of his titles and the comeback story of a man who has drug addictions, lost it all and it back to claim his titles :wenger:. It would be a big draw regardless what you think of McGregor.

No, it's definitely not staged. But, as a businessman like you say he will try to make as much money out of this. So, I would take all this "disgraceful, who would work with him" talk with a big pinch of salt.

And tbf some of Conor behaviour prior to this was also not normal, but it was encouraged as it sells fights. This is the kind of image Dana massively help to build.

Cowley and Ward were 100% involved in what went on last night as per the video footage.

Yep agreed. Once the whole Mayweather saga began he had lost control of him.

John Kavanagh and Owen Roddy seem like decent guys so I doubt they were involved in any of this shit. Conor just surrounds himself with complete morons now the guy is totally out of control. And everyone in the MMA world knows Conor is a cokehead too. Dana even hinted at it yesterday.

Kavanagh is cornering someone with Bellator in Hungary and was going to fly over afterwards to corner lobov.

Perhaps some of you Irish lads can tell me what his background is. Is he from some shithole or is he a middle class moron acting out?

Is it all an act or has McGregor turned into an arrogant prick?

He comes from a hard working family so it’s not his natural way by all accounts

Wasn't he throwing bottles and shit at a presser well before the Mayweather fight?
Yes true  but I'm more referring to once Conor was trying to get a boxing fight, earning 3-4x what UFC could dream of paying him and he thought he was bigger than the company.

No respect, considering he was so desperate to join the UFC when he was younger.

On the other hand, it could look like a band of brothers and if you touch one, you touch them all (). It's all very silly, but if there's real intent and bad blood behind it, things can easily go too far, especially with Conor off his tits.

He's the number one name in the spot for copy today 'Notorious' indeed. Dana will be bending over backwards, as usual, to get some more milk when the time comes - if Conor wants Artem in the UFC, he'll not get cut, just suspended and reinstated quietly some time down the line, imo.

It's funny everyone interested in UFC is talking about this drivel today. It's done its job.

Anyone who thinks McGregor is doing this out of some sense of loyalty and brotherhood to Lobov and not about the only thing McGregor cares about other than money - which is himself, Conor McGregor - is soft in the head.

His ego knows no bounds. You'd think he'd be more humble after the fighting lesson Mayweather dished out to him but no, he's worse than ever.

From what I've read, locals have always thought he was a arrogant prick and that now he has money he is just a rich one.

Surrounded by Yes men - including his fans. He was beat by Mayweather but all he heard was "you went 10 rounds with the GOAT" .

The only time there a glimmer of humility was when Diaz gave him a beating. He was likeable for a short while after until the rematch.

So Holloway is out? Can't see the tweet.

Get McGregor out of the that cell...or better yet, lets put Khabib in with him, few cameras and a ref. I'm sure I saw this happen once in WWF/

No fecking way

Inevitable. Talk of weighing an extra 30lbs after weigh-in

Shouldn’t be allowed or encouraged to cut that much weight

What now for the belt? Stays with McGregor as they never stripped him? Can’t see how Khabib can have it as hasn’t won it.

What about interim?

UFC are fecking up with all these belts, especially when they are there only to push PPVs

Yeah he's been declared medically unfit. Props to him for stepping up when Tony got injured it was always going to be a tough weight cut. I didn't have a good feeling about it all week.

I can see it now, McGregor steps in and fights Khabib at catchweight lol. Genius marketing from the UFC.

Yea respect for Holloway for trying. UFC 223 is a pretty shit card now, Rose and Joanna is a good fight but everyone has been waiting months to see Khabib fight !

Pettis to step in maybe and bump Joanna vs. Rose to main? Will they still put it on PPV? It'll do awful numbers.

possibly, it was terrible card anyway. I see holloway's nutrionist on the other day. Holloway wasn't even in training or eating healthy when he got the call and accepted. Why did he accept and why did UFC let him. It's different if he was in training even at 50%, but the fact he wasn't even is scary. Stupid of him to accept and for the UFC to allow it. He should have done what the likes of Eddie Alvarez did, right fight, wrong time.
