That said, I'd be shocked if Joanna doesn't win the belt back. She has too much quality to allow that sort of thing to happen twice. Think Lewis-Rahman 2.

She blamed her cut and I think she binned her nutrition team. Be interesting to see what she says if she loses again.

The inconvenient problem though is that he is the real champ, he beat the actual champ to get the title. It's right he should be stripped if he's not ready to return yet but he is or was the real champ. And he will still have a legitimate claim to being the real champ after saturday.

If you don't fight, you can't continue to claim to be the champion. At some point the sport moves on. If Conor comes back he will no doubt be given a shot to win the title back, but the moment Max Holloway or Khabib Nurmagomedov has their hand raised, they are the legitimate champ of 155, this isn't interim, this is for the real strap.
 
Would love to see Holloway do this, seems like a great guy on top of being an absolute beast.
 
Really annoyed at this, I love Holloway but he's too small for Khabib who's practically a welterweight. They apparently offered it to Ortega too which IMO would have been a better match up (Khabib would have probably beaten him too).

Yeah what the UFC says is the real strap. Im not a fan of interim titles or titles being vacated/stripped unless it is absolutely unnecessary like if a fighter retires or is injured long term. It devalues the title for me.

If McGregor is coming back in the summer as White keeps saying and fights the winner on saturday then its a farce especially if McGregor wins and highlights that the UFC is now throwing world titles around and using them as props to help sell PPV's.

Don't them 2 sentences kind of contradict each other? You first say he doesn't need extra marketing but then go on to state he would make extra money by waiting. Which in turn would be benefitted by that extra marketing. I think they're right to not use him, you don't chuck your biggest money earner into a fight on a weeks notice.

Gutted by the cancellation, seems inevitable at this point they will never fight really. I think Khabib wins easily, sets up a fight with conor and Tony now has to wait his turn which is a shame.

I mean Dana making money. Ie, venue, sponsorship, the initial set up deals as they are making the fight. Not just the PPV buys when a name like Connor is attached.


I want to see them all fight. I love Kahbib but I want Holloway to win. If he does then his next fight would surely be Connor and I would think you’re looking at Diaz numbers.

Course not but equally that is part of marketing. They've sold tickets based on the fact it's Khabib vs. Ferguson. Conor attracts bigger money tickets and by hyping it up (by marketing the fight more) they could charge more again. They'd be stupid to book Conor in a fight on 6 days notice.

So um you’re agreeing with me then, because that’s what I meant in the first post. I however shouldn’t have used the word marketing in it. Because yeahthey re two different entities.
 
Gutted that Tony got injured :( Think he had a fair shot of beating Khabib, although my money was still on Khabib.

Max Holloway is a beast, but he's gonna get taken down and smushed for about 22 mins of the fight. Win:win for him taking the fight though. Win and he gets the belt, lose and he was underdog who jumped up a weight to fight the beast that is Khabib.

Rose vs Joanna. Would like Rose to win this one. I liked Joanna up until her pre-fight shennanigans with the bogey woman and being a cocky bully. But think Joanna is in better shape and losing the belt may make her stronger, a la GSP.

Well yeah I was, I was originally just questioning the original post cos for me they were basically the same thing like I said.
 
something about this whole episode just doesn't feel right to me. It feels like that time Carl Frampton v Gutierrez fight that got cancelled less than 24 hrs before it was due to go.Gutierrez suffered a freak fall in his shower, It was originally intended to be a WBC title eliminator. However, Frampton’s missed cut by 1lb ensured that this would not be the case if he won.
when the dust settled on this, Frampton and his manager McGuigan were having big issues that are now in court. Frampton never wanted the fight v the champ Garry Russell jr anyway so by failing to make weight by 1 lb that removed that obligation. I knew at the time that something was amiss with that fight call off, I get the same feeling about this one. White hasn't exactly been sympathic to Ferguson, he made reference to Ferguson wearing shades inside when it happened and also I'm led to believe stripped him of his interim title, something he didn't do to Whitaker when he pulled out of his fight injured. I'm probably looking too deep into but feels like something dodgy is going on

Lobov was obviously shitting himself. All those Dagestani surrounding him! McGregor isn't going to take it well. Can't wait for his responce.
 
I was on team Khabib for the fight against Ferguson but you have to hand it to Holloway for stepping up on short notice, going up a weight class in a fight against one of the scariest dudes in UFC today.

For this alone, I hope he gets the win.

Volkov, Arlovski, Shevcehnko, Khabib, Artem, Antigulov, Bibulatov, Cutelaba, Abdul-Kerim Edilov, Shamil Abdurakhimov

Loads of options, much like the Brazil cards that are stacked with the usual suspects there.
