Even if he won and retired with the current circumstances there would be no champ?

Although i doubt he would retire of he had the title.

He claims he planned to retire win, lose, or draw coming into last night. In a way, its not the end of the world as it really uncomplicates a lot of the congestion by leaving 4 clear cut fighters in the mix for the belt

Jacare contract is up after his fight this weekend as well apparently. Bit of a problem for the UFC with him and Mousasi in the same position. Their most stacked division (arguably) could lose 2 of it's better fighters.

Even more ominous is that its an ageing division. Romero, Jacare, and Bisping are all in their late 30s; Belfort and Silva are over 40. Remove all of them in the next year or two and you've got a pretty sparse division where Weidman, Rockhold, and Mousasi are the only ones left. Which is why imo, they need to go all out and make sure Mousasi doesn't escape to Bellator.

Yeah fair comments. I thought it was a bit worrying in the post UFC press conference that they asked about LHW and Dana basically passed it off as everything will be fine cos people come through, didn't really seem they had a plan or an idea of what to do for the future of the sport.

How fecking good is tonight's main card? All of those fights look awesome.

Namajunas/Waterson should be awesome, hoping Namajunas can pull it off, think she will personally, winner is expected to fight the winner of Joanna/Andrade. Whittaker is on an absolute tear with six wins in a row, dude is only 26, could have a bright future in this division. Jacare is a big step up for him, pull off the win and he's knocking on the door for a title shot IMO.

May watch it tonight. I have no plans. I always tend to miss these events.

What time is it

Looks like Jacare has signed a new contract.

What an idiot for signing an 8 fight contact. That's the rest of his career... It better be for big money because he'll look like an idiot if he starts moaning now.

Rumble is a complete moron, squandering two rounds of energy trying to prove a point that he could take DC down. He was there for the taking with the broken nose.

He should retire. He obviously hasn't got two brain cells to rub together,

Stephens blew that one. He should've beaten this guy, but would up getting taken down twice and his face bloodied nicely.

Eddie Alvarez v Poirier is going to a great fight

Surprised it's a prelim. Although I think their prelim ratings have been down on fox sports in the states, so it will help that for sure

Great win for Whittaker against a strong favourite. Middleweight has to be one of the oldest divisions in terms of fighter age. Finally seeing some young stars come through.

Amazing performance from rose

Pretty disturbing scene with the blood squirting due to the choke

I think she's ready for a title shot. Her last loss was a split decision to Karolina and I think she's improved since then. And Joanna is sort of running out of opponents so this makes sense.

Yeah, and Joanna fights very soon, so I would like to see her challenge next

Never heard of this guy before, but i got a weird feeling we might get a surprise in this fight!
For absolutely no reason at all.

Can't believe Reis has never finished a fight except from subs previously

He is the biggest flyweight and looks like he has knockout power

Would love to see what Whitaker can do against Mousasi or Rockhold. On this form he would almost certainly beat Bisping as well.

Looking at the flyweight rankings the only matchup that will make sense for DJ is a 3rd fight with Joe Benavidez

I think Mousasi vs Whittaker makes the most sense towards the second half of the year for a no 1 contender fight. If Bisping fights GSP around Sep/Oct, there's no guarantee Bisping will keep the belt or not retire after the fight and GSP will not stay at middleweight if he wins the belt either I think. So could potentially have a Romero vs Whittaker/Mousasi situation going on at the end of the year/early next year.

Rockhold said he wants him at UFC 213 apparently. Be a good fighter, I agree he'd beat Bisping as well. Realistically I think all the Top 5-6 Middleweights beat Bisping though. It's good to see a young MW coming through as well. Romero and Jacare are good fighters but as we said the other day it's an old division and did need a young fighter coming through.

Enjoyable card I thought, MM is a beast. Hopefully he beats the record it is somewhat of a shame how far ahead he is of everyone cos it seems to hinder his reputation at times. Benavidez is probably his closest opponent and may get the shot, their first fight was close at least.
