The MMA gods are punishing us. First we all saw Kimbo vs. Dada and they know we'll all watch McGregor vs. Diaz 2.

So UFC 200 is rounded off with a title fight...

Tate vs. Nunes

Because THAT'S the fight we all wanted to see

Really is a slap in the face of Holly Holm though...

Nunes deserves her shot in my opinion, but I'm (pleasantly) surprised they gave her one as she doesn't have close to the name.value of the others. Not sure she can beat Tate though, just because Tate is tough as nails and after putting on an initial onslaught, Nunes' gas tank empties after 2 rounds.

It's not a slap in the face of Holly Holm. She jumped the line in the first place (ahead of both Tate and Nunes) and an immediate rematch with 0 defences would be completely undeserved.

I guess they want Tate to have at least one credible defence before the inevitable Rousey match, which Rousey can't do at 200 I guess.

Should stop the people moaning about Holm or Rousey getting a title shot for a little while.

Zingano was also pushing hard for the shot at Tate. They really need to get her back into the octagon.

Zingano to be the Frankie Edgar of the women's bantamweight division.

Zingano is expected to be fighting Pena at 200. I'm sure Ronda could have had the shot if she wanted but she is actually taking her time which is smart.

It's a risk though because if Nunes wins, the UFC will be slightly screwed as she has no storyline whatsoever with Ronda's return. But have to credit them, they're not going for the 'money' fight here.

So Khabib is now fighting Darrell Horcher? Never heard of the lad, this is his UFC debut!

Glad we're getting to see Khabib fight but it's a weird one.

Agreed. I know Nunes is pretty good and all, but this is fecking horrible. The UFC apparently hate Holm's manager and are spiting her.

Pretty much this.

She went three rounds in her last fight but Shevchenko did next to nothing for the first two, but she looks good so I'm glad shes getting a push.

Hopefully she can put on a performance simply to add some depth to the division. You can't build a division with three fighters fighting each other in endless rematches.

It's weird alright. I'm not sure what happened with Cerrone. First it seems someone told Khabib that Cerrone was injured, Cerrone then denied it. Then Khabib asked him to post proof that he'd signed the contract to fight and then cowboy went all quiet. Now Khabib is fighting this random dude. As scary a proposition as Khabib is on short notice, you'd think some unranked LW already on the books would take it, they've not got much to lose as it's not like anyone would slaughter them for losing to Khabib.

I agree but it's ominous that UFC would rely on storylines. I suppose if they needed 1 that badly then (if Nunes won) Rousey would be the only woman to successfully defend the UFC Women's Batamweight title and would deserve a rematch on that basis surely. She was the most dominant woman (and arguably fighter) in the UFC at the time. I'm glad Holm didn't get a rematch as she'd done nothing to deserve it.

it seems they are fast tracking Khabib for a title shot...

i hope he fights at least one top 5 before getting RDA.
Definitely has that feel to it.

This fight could be exciting though, because of the element of the unknown. Horcher is lightweight champion of another promotion.

Normally I would agree with this but then I see Conor gets a rematch and that's far less deserving.

Either that or they want Khabib to have a tune up fight so that they can arrange the Tony Ferguson fight later on. An easier fight for Khabib is a good thing considering how long he was out for and how fragile his body is.

In fairness McGregor isn't for a title though. Whilst I agree and have said it's stupid he has a rematch it's not like anyone is missing out on much by him fighting Diaz really. Edgar vs. Aldo is happening for an interim (basically a number 1 contender fight) and him vs. Diaz makes a lot more money than Holm vs Tate would. I don't mind rematches but when it's for a title it seems a bit unfair on others who have earned that shot. The fact Holm had 0 successful defences kind of ruined her chance of an immediate rematch really, equally she jumped the queue last time...worth baring in mind everyone implied she was a bit of a joke before the rousey fight and would get killed.

I have to disagree... I think Conor and Diaz rematching is completely pointless and only done for money and to pander to Conor's wishes. It's complete bollocks. Yes Edgar and Aldo are fighting for number 1 contendership but to be honest they both deserve shots, and this will eliminate one of them. Aldo should be given a rematch as he was a champ for such a long time and one of the P4P best fighters and lost with a flash KO in 13 seconds. That wasnt a fight, it needs to be re-run. Edgar also deserves it after his recent tear finishing with a demolition of Mendes, at which point he was told he is the next contender. So in essence, these two fighters are both being held back and one will be knocked out of the race. So they're both being screwed so that Conor can rematch Diaz for a fight that meant nothing in the first instance.

I agree that Holm should also not get a rematch but when you look at how Conor has got a rematch and it's implications to the division he's holding up, then it's hard to deny that Condit, Holm and possibly even TJ should get rematches. But this is the UFC, it's one rule for some and another for the others.

200 has evolved into a pretty good card, although it lacks a bit of star power in the way of a Rousey, Holm, GSP, Lawler type character.

Welterweight Nate Diaz vs. Conor McGregor
Featherweight José Aldo vs. Frankie Edgar
Women's Bantamweight Miesha Tate (c) vs. Amanda Nunes
Heavyweight Cain Velasquez vs. Travis Browne
Welterweight Johny Hendricks vs. Kelvin Gastelum
Middleweight Gegard Mousasi vs. Derek Brunson
Lightweight Diego Sanchez vs. Joe Lauzon
Lightweight Sage Northcutt vs. Enrique Marín
Lightweight Takanori Gomi vs. Jim Miller
Women's Bantamweight Cat Zingano vs. Julianna Peña

I reckon a lot of MMA fighters have taken something on the banned substance list at some time in their career. The only question is those who are able to pass the tests

Yep. Faber pretty much said Dillashaw has been on steroids for years in a recent interview...which is odd as he was training under Faber so he basically just put himself under scrutiny.

Looking forward to tomorrow, nice to have a UFC event on at a respectable time. A lot of heavyweight bouts so wouldn't expect it to go too late into the night either.

I'd imagine JdS is more or less done if he loses to Rothwell. On the other hand, it would be hard to deny Rothwell a title shot if he wins convincingly.

It's basically become the latest trash talk to just throw out steroid accusations at anyone and everyone. Annoying.

Should be a fairly fun card today, will try and keep an eye on the prelims while United are playing. Hell, if we're as boring as we tend to be these days it might even be the other way around.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the main card is finished by eight.

There's noway many of these fights are going past the first round.

It's unusual to see so many heavyweight fights on the same card. Perhaps they've done it to make up for the lack of raw star power, they know everyone likes to see the big lads go at it regardless. Just hope we don't see too many gas fests. With HW fights it tends to go one of two ways and both are brutal for different reasons.

Btw a fight to watch out for is Blaydes vs Ngannou, potentially two of the best HW prospects.

Yeah I think there's a number of reasons for the card to be full of heavyweights. Mainly due to how poor the HW division has become recently.

A European card was never gonna be stacked because of time difference and American viewing, plus the heavyweight division needs some emerging talent so why not throw a few of them on the one card and see if anything special surfaces? Anyway it should be fun. Tipping Big Ben for champion by the end of the year, he said he'd like to defend in Dublin too!
