The MMA thread

think he is a brand new fan

nothing wrong new fans, but he suddenly thinks he is an expert

I still consider myself a new fan and Ive been mad into it for about 8-9 years
I was a GSP fan for a long time. So since 2007/2008. I've also been fighting since I was 6/7 (Kick boxing, boxing, MMA classes, Boxing in that order) but I'm certainly not an expert. I'm just making observations from what I see. They can be wrong and they can be right at times. Not suggesting I have intimate knowledge that other people don't.

With all the talk of sell outs and such, I wonder if I should grab tickets for UFC Rotterdam as soon as they come available or wait for a bit to see if prices might drop later on or something.

The impression I got was that Vegas has so many events they just don't sell out. With places getting less events they'd probably sell out quicker. I don't know how big UFC is in Netherlands though so not sure how well it would sell.

Has anyone notices the UFC EA Sports covers and how whoevers on them immediately has a dip? Jon Jones, Gustaffson, Rousey, McGregor. I would not be looking forward to being on next years cover if I was a fighter.

Rory MacDonald is to see out his contract with the UFC, Wonderboy will be his last fight in the promotion. Disappointing if he doesn't re-sign.

On the MMA hour today he announced it, feels like the UFC hasn't returned the favors he did for them and don't value him enough.

Hopefully the UFC will take it seriously and offer him the type of contract he deserves. It would be really shit if the UFC started losing more top fighters like Rory. Losing Benson was bad enough.

They would never let him go unless they had new stars on the horizon or there was some sort of personal issue.

Its a must win for him vs Thompson then. Wonderboy is being groomed to be the next star of the welterweights, doing a lot of media, travelling, youtube, etc.

So unless he beats him, UFC will have the upper hand in the negotiations.

I hope no matter the outcome of the fight, they gave him the paycheck he deserves.

Just a negotiation tactic among both sides imo. There's no reason for the UFC to lose their #1 WW contender, even if he loses the next fight.

I wish Rory wasnt fighting wonderboy, like them both and both deserve to be in the title picture. I would prefer one of them to face Woodley, who I can't stand.

I don't think it's must win. Possibly "must perform "which he always does to be fair. He's only lost to two fighters in his professional career in Lawler and Condit so it's hardly a bad record and is only 26 years old so has years left in the sport. The UFC would be stupid to let him go, but as has been pointed out they are quite stubborn with stuff like this. Fighters pay is a bit of a joke really to be honest, the problem is the UFC know they have the best fighters and the biggest exposure so can hold plenty of these fighters to ransom, they fecked them even more with the Reebok stuff. I think except the top stars or champions it's not going to be a very happy place to work at times.

I still have a week or two before presale starts and have priority access so I should be fine I think. Thanks for the advice though.
What's the price range? I'm not that much into the sport but UFC so close to home would definitely be worth doing if it's not too expensive.

Must be brinkmanship by both sides. anything else would be ridiculous.
not so sure - I think bellator are paying good rates and he would probably headline fights there as well.
I know fighters in bellator who are on better deals than they were with the UFC - plus they give more freedom if people want to compete in K1 / kickboxing / Bjj competitions as well

Think the rumor is around 50 for 2nd ring seats.

@Dirty Schwein Checked out this weeks Co-Main event? I'm in it, although they butchered my name with the question about Nate Diaz on the Price is Right.

Rory would be a cracking signing for Bellator, he's definitely a fighter on the rise

Heard half of it and will finish it off during the drive home after work. That was you? Great question. The comment about nunchucks had me in stitches

Bellator can guarantee McDonald trucks load of cash, something the UFC can do, but are hesitant because they're cheap cnuts. Although I can see RMcD denying the better offer from Bellator to fight in the premier organisation.

There are so many reasons for Rory to go to Bellator.

Bellator will offer him a load more cash plus he'll making extra through sponsorship. At 26, he's got plenty of years left in him and can always go back to the UFC. He doesn't know how to self promote and I can't see the UFC pushing him over Wonderboy. On top of that, for the sake of career longevity, it might be better that he spends some time at Bellator early in his career (earning a load of cash) than go through more wars like the one he had against Lawler and end up on the scrap heap at 31-32 with only the much smaller shows on offer.

Having said that if he beats Wonderboy, it is probably worth staying just for another shot at getting the belt. Without being able to self promote, it appears his only way of making serious money in the UFC is to get the belt and have a good run as champ.

Personally, I think the UFC are shafting Rory. They've offered him a contract which he's turned down so they've put him in a fight against Wonderboy, who they expect to win, in the hope of strengthening their hand in negotiations or build the Wonderboy hype of a win over Rory. I kind of hope Rory knocks out Wonderboy and signs with Bellator...

So Anderson Silva vs. Uriah Hall at 198 plus the possibility of getting Cyborg in there? Starting to look like a great card that one!

Cain vs. Travis Browne considered for 200? Not sure I really care for that... knowing Cain, he'll just be forced to drop out anyway. Hopefully RDA gets Lawler on that card. That would be epic for real UFC fans.

Cain/Browne would be a big thumbs up from me. Browne needs a big win and this could be it. Everytime he's gotten close to a title shot he's just fallen short. Could be one heck of a fight if they go at it too.

Rory Vs Semtex - now that is a fight I would love to see

I would prefer Cain to smash in the face of Browne. Can't stand the guy, especially the way he conducted himself after the fight with Meathead
