The MMA thread

Good stuff mate. Slightly jealous, it should be a top atmosphere. For a fight pass card it's actually a pretty good lineup in my opinion. Miocic - Rothwell is a big fight, and some of the others like Smolka - Holohan should be good.
Obviously hoping for a holohan win. He might be ranked with a victory but smolka looked good last time out against Neil seery

Also looking forward to seeing the scouser, Darren Till. Trains in Brazil and looked very impressive in his debut

Yair Rodriguez in the featured prelim tonight. He looked like a potential future champion last time out, so I'm very much looking forward to seeing him again.

yes! El Pantera Yair, winner of the first latin american TUF. He is really good, and put a entertaining show as well. Dana loves him. Hopefully he gets a crazy KO tonight... couldn't finish his last fights. (only 22 years old)

when in that position, i wonder why the fighters don't jump on their backs and try to break some ribs from the opponent and/or get released.

Namajunas vs Van Zant seems like the correct next match up

Triple threat with those two and Michelle Waterson

Huge KO. Islam is a big talent too. He'll be back but this is a big setback for him.

Damn that's a beauty of a hook. This card has been great so far.

cmon Yair!

edit.

crazy Yair! well done. Cant wait for his next fight... the finishing power hopefully will come with better boxing technique and age.

Broken foot limited him a bit but I'm a big fan of this kid. You have to love the fighters with a TKD base. Still an enjoyable fight and solid win.

First poor fight of the night. Hopefully it's not one of those cases where if the prelims are great then the main card is disappointing, seems to happen quite a lot and the other way around as well.

Complete snoozer. Flyweight is the only division that I actually have to put effort in to enjoy. They are too elusive and it often descends into a drawn out game of cat and mouse, especially in the bigger cage. Some of them are exciting but on the whole, it's the hardest to enjoy by a long way including the women. Mighty Mouse gets a lot of stick but it's really not his fault.

Disappointing about Jordan. Not sure why fighters like him don't drop an extra 20lbs for better mobility and cardio.

his last 8 victories came via decision. that's crazy for a HW. I don't think he would do fairly well against the top ranked HW.

Still young though. 28yo.

He's a real point fighter. I actually find him quite enjoyable to watch because he's unlike nearly every other HW in that regard. His technique is really solid but there's always a real chance that against some of the top guys he'll get caught out eventually. We all know it only takes 1 shot in the HW division.

Rashad is really a middleweight by current standards. The size disadvantage and ring rust are costing him here. Bader's stand up has come on leaps and bounds to his credit.

Pretty decent fight. Felt like Gustafsson came into this fight trying to win 3-2 than to actually KO Cormian. Hadn't seen light heavy in a while and Cormian impressed me.

Very good fight. Made it worth staying up for. Cormier gets the nod which I'd say is correct.

Wow....that was quite a fight. Draining just to watch that. Thought the judges made the right call, although I wasn't surprised that one judge called it for Alex.

These two are definitely the two best in the division at the moment until Jones returns. I suspect DC will get Jones next since his legal case is over.

Just watching now, holy shit, Sage Northcutt looks like a cartoon character.

I bet the UFC see potential millions in this kid.

Gustafsson missed a huge chance, thought he was gonna finish it off after that knee. Cormier is the deserved winner though imo, some of those uppercuts were great.

Cormier's chin is ridiculous but he could have had a lot easier night if he tried a few more take downs. The first one was majestic, strength that took was very impressive!

On that showing Jones is still the best in the division though.

Incredible main event, that's everything you want from a title fight. Would still like to see Gus/Jones finally have their rematch, Gus beat him for me so I'd still like to see them go at it again.

Rashad was disappointing but was coming off of a two year layoff in fairness. If he wants to continue fighting after this then I'd like to see him go down to MW instead.

So what next for Gustaffson, a fight with Bader perhaps ?

Cormier and Jones both looked like they needed to go to the hospital after facing him, and yet both managed to barely win.
