The MMA thread

Delighted for Fabricio, the man is a legend and now has to be in the mix of greatest heavyweights of all time. Ended Fedor's run and now comfortably beat Cain.

There's no doubt in my mind that Kings MMA is the best camp around right now. Rafael Cordeiro is working wonders over there. First RDA and now Fabricio showing huge improvements and grabbing the belts. Some great prospects like Dariush too.

Yair Rodriguez looks a special talent by the way, and I was very impressed with how Eddie Alvarez adapted to deservedly take the decision in the co-main.

Werdum deserved the win but I was a bit disappointed with the fight as Cain didn't perform anywhere close to his capabilities. He started to look laboured in the first round which must be related to the altitude. Hopefully Cain can avoid injury and get a rematch a fight or two down the line, should be a more entertaining affair.

I've never been a big fan of Werdum but fair play to him for constantly improving his game, he's pretty lethal everywhere now.

Besides it being totally unappealing, chick fights bore the shit outta me.

Give the main event a go next week. The polish chick Joanna is something spectacular when it comes to technical striking. That fight last night was absolutely appalling though and easily the worst fight the new division has had yet, nearly every other one has been good.

Was to be expected for that fight too. Every fight Tecia has had at professional level has gone to a decision. Think Stevie Wonder could have seen a decision victory for Torres in that one all day long. Quite surprised they put that on the main card if I'm honest considering some of the quality women's fights that they constantly bump down to the prelims yet this one randomly get's put up there.

Yeah it was a weird decision, especially with some intriguing fighters like Cejudo fighting on the prelims if I recall correctly, maybe they wanted to keep some of the better fights on regular tv and decided they could get away with throwing this one on the ppv. Doubt those kind of performances will do her any good going forward though. She's kind of a nightmare for the UFC brass as she has wins over two of the girls they really want to push in Rose and PVZ, so they can't ignore her, yet there won't be much interest in seeing her fight unless she adds some killer instinct. I expect they'll feed her to one of the top contenders coming off a loss to get them back on track, like the loser of Gadelha/Aguilar, or maybe Jessica Penne if she loses next weekend.

Cathal Pendred has awful stand-up, gets rocked easily (but is a battler), average grappling, sloth like speed and no creativity. How he's unbeaten in the UFC is amazing.

What until he fights someone half decent. Will be well beaten and will be a boring fight. He'll be cut within 4 fights I reckon.

Going to assume I'm the only one watching Bellator right now but the Ken Shamrock and Kimbo ring walkouts have been...so shit it's actually kinda good. Pretty much everyone is just going WTF right now. They showed clips of Kimbo's street fights on big screens as he walked out. Shamrock had some weird guy who looked like a KISS reject walk out with him, along with his family, i think? There was just a woman and 3 or 4 kids following him. So weird.

Did anyone just watch the Kimbo - Ken Shamrock fight?!:lol::lol::lol:

Legitimately one of the funniest, saddest things I've ever seen.

That weirdly guy was road warrior Animal, old school WWF fans will remember him as one half of the legion of Doom tag team, I don't understand Kens desire to return at 51 years old.

Dude that was hilarious. We are lucky to have watched that live. I only chanced upon it having come back from a night out and finding myself up at 4am in the morning. Glad I stayed up for it.
 It was amazing, but in a really bad way, I stayed up until 6am just to watch it on the off chance it all got weird. It all got weird. Worth it.

I have it downloaded and will watch for a laugh later on. Does Bellator come on broadcast in the UK?

That was a work. I don't care how old Shamrock is, the guy knows how to put a choke on a very limited fighter like Kimbo. Those slow take downs as well...

It looked dodgy as hell but when a 51 year old guy, who was washed up 15 years ago, fights stupid stuff is probably going to happen. I dunno if it was fixed or not but if it was then why have Kimbo winning? Seems it's better for Bellator if Shamrock won because then they could do that whole Shamrock vs Ortiz thing again etc.

Wow that was so fake, I honestly had to google to see if bellator wasn't like some parody mma competition.

Kimbo had bitch tits on his title card :D

Nice comeback sub from young British prospect Arnold Allen. Very enjoyable card so far. Taisumov up next which should be exciting, 22 finishes in 23 fights.

Edit: Fantastic prelims all around. Amirkhani looked great, hype train incoming for that man.

Pennes corner should have thrown in the towel after that 2nd round

I don't care if it's sexist I feel uncomfortable watching a girl get the shit kicked out of her like that

They should, especially when she told them she couldn't see properly. Cornering in MMA really needs to grow up in that regard.

All beatdowns like that can be a tough watch to be honest, like the Hunt fight the other week. The thing with Joanna is that her striking is unbelievable but at the end of the day she is just a 115 pound woman and so can't get the knockouts as easily as an equivalent 170 pound male for example. Therefore her recent fights have just descended into brutality until the ref has had enough and awards her a tko. Unbelievably exciting talent to watch though.

Stunning performance from Joanna. Really hope Namajunas changes up her training camp because the girl has massive potential, would love to see her fight for the title.

Probably should have set out my post a bit better rather than going straight into something different after the Joanna part. I meant Rose Namajunas challenging Joanna for the title mate.

Nah my bad, I misread it.

I think she's the only one left in the Top 5 that she hasn't beat yet.

They signed the girl from WSOF who was thought to be the best straw weight just recently. She will make her debut later in the summer and assuming she wins fight for the title then

Yeah, Namajunas will need about 2 wins to get a look in at a shot though.

Waterson is coming off of a loss so needs that bounce back victory now she's in the UFC. Gadelha who only lost to Joanna by split decision is fighting on the Rousey card so a win there could have her in contention. VanZant isn't ready yet but they're pushing her big too. Decent division for sure. Waterson fights next month so agree, every chance she could be the next challenger with a win.

Gutted that Silva vs. Story is off of the weekend's card... was looking forward to that! Hope Machida gets back into the W column...

For feck sake. Aldo - McGregor might be off so.

I'd guess it's done. Aldo wouldn't risk that against such a versatile striker, let alone it being public knowledge now too.
