The MMA thread

Right decision by UFC. Surprised people are actually surprised he got stripped given what happened. Him running was the worst thing he could have done.

PPV is still stacked regardless.

And tbh, he will be back in a year if not sooner and still selling PPVs and winning matches. Hes the mayweather of MMA.

Another 187 injury, Khabib out of his fight with Cerrone.

Gutted about that one. I am a big fan of Khabib, but he just can't bleeding stay fit! He's such a beast I think he'd easily be champion already if not for the injuries. AKA need to take a long hard look at themselves though, Dana already scrutinises them for 'dark ages' training and I'm not surprised. They make great fighters but overwork them to the point they can barely ever fight.

More ridiculous luck on the injury front. Two days after calling out Khabib getting injured, Pettis goes and get's himself injured again and is out of his fight with Jury who now faces Barboza instead.

What time is Hunt Miocic kicking off in the UK? Both, live and eventually televised.

Really enjoyed the card

The hunt fight should have been stopped in the 3rd, and not for the first time in recent weeks I'm wondering should the corner of these fighters not be throwing in the towel, it simply never happens in MMA.

Hunt took an extra 10 mins of getting hit in the head for no good reason

I agree. I wish we would see more of that in the UFC to be honest. The only time I even remember the towel being thrown in was Nick Diaz as his brother was being beaten to a pulp by Thomson. Albeit it is apparently against the rules to do so (literally throw in the towel). Still more corners should be keeping their fighter on the stool when the cause is 99% lost.

Just got around to watching the card. It was fantastic. 10 finishes in 12. Spectacular comeback in the first strawweight fight and some great knockouts/submission finishes. Got a bit painful watchign Hunto being beat up like that though. The drawn-out beat downs are always a much harder watch than even violent knockouts in my opinion.

yes it was a pretty good night. The blondie loosing the fight broke my heart =( She was 2 rounds up and in complete control of the third round. Suddenly her opponent got a bit of momentum and i think she freaked out because ended rushing with the takedown attempt giving her the chance to finish her. Good lesson for her i guess...

Matthews vs Vick was a quick but awesome fight. Can't wait to see more of these 2. I guess Matthews (20yo) will come freaking stronger, way more experienced and mentally stronger from this first defeat. His next winning streak will be longer than the first one.

Vick has been class every time ive seen him. With 28 years, he is entering his prime years. Sooner than later, a title contender in my book, even though lightweight division is ridiculously stacked with talent.

The Smiley dude with KO power was pretty awesome too.

really good night.

Agree about Hunt, was painful. This ref im sure has done it before.

But when his corner and the doc were checking him at the end of the 4th round, he was like "I WANT TO FIGHT... i WANT TO FIGHTT!"... Rocky Balboa style. So tough and proud the Super Samoan. No way he would yielded in front of his people.

what!! this early?

cheers for the heads up... im off to my football game but hopefully ill be back in time for the main event.

gonna have to download the prelims though.

Yeah I'm heading out now myself so will catch the main card later. But make sure to catch the Sangcha-an - Reyes fight. It was a crazy bloody mess.

About to get into the main card of UFC Fight Night: Edgar v Faber for anyone interested. The event is in Manilla, Philippines so decent timing for us.

Munoz v Barnatt
Mousasi v Philippou
Edgar v Faber

Frankie Edgar = Floyd Mayweather?

Obviously, not as dominant but someone who is where is he is because he's so good at not getting hit. You have to admire the skills but feck me, it does get a bit boring to watch.

He's not the most exciting fighter in my opinion but is capable of putting on a better show than last night. It was just a bad stylistic match up really. Faber is very good at getting back to his feet when taken down and they both have sound technical defence.

It seems recently that more and more of the highest level fights are playing out that way, even when Pettis was getting dominated he still survived all 5 rounds and same goes for Cormier against Jones. Getting harder and harder to finish the top guys.

As for the Floyd mayweather of mma that would be Dominick Cruz probably.

That's very true. Almost as though the perfection of MMA means they're more and more likely to nullify each other. They're all so well rounded they don't leave any holes to exploit.

I dont 100% agree. For me that was Edgars most boring match ever. His fight before with Swanson was great, as was his wars with Gray Maynard.

The embedded's for UFC 187 have been great. Very good card set for this weekend could have been better but the replacements more than make up for it.

I hope Weidman get's knocked out, an absolute idiot.

Not much of a Weidman fan but can't stand Belfort, hopefully Weidman destroys him. Claimed Belfort is still cheating during the weigh in's too.

Such an awesome card. Two brilliant title fights, Cerrone, Dodson, Browne, Namajunas, Kim plus more all fighting on the card too.

Light Heavyweight Anthony Johnson vs. Daniel Cormier - Cormier via decision
Middleweight Chris Weidman (c) vs. Vitor Belfort - Weidman via TKO
Lightweight Donald Cerrone vs. John Makdessi - Cerrone via TKO
Heavyweight Travis Browne vs. Andrei Arlovski - Browne via TKO
Flyweight Joseph Benavidez vs. John Moraga - Benavidez via decision
Preliminary Card (Fox Sports 1)
Flyweight John Dodson vs. Zach Makovsky - Dodson via decision
Welterweight Dong Hyun Kim vs. Josh Burkman - Kim via TKO
Middleweight Uriah Hall vs. Rafael Natal - Hall via DESTRUCTION
Catchweight (120 lbs) Rose Namajunas vs. Nina Ansaroff - Namajunas via submission

Cerrone seems to fight every other week.

I really like Cormier whenever I've seen him interviewed, I do find his style a bit boring though.

I also hope (and think) Weidman smashes Belfort. I wanna see Rockhold v Weidman.

Not sure we will see any finishes in the two title fights

I'm going for both Cormier and Weidman to grind out unanimous decisions

I agree with most of @JP77 predictions, except I'm not sure Travis can finish Arlovski. Think it will be a decision too

Not sure why, but people are betting on Johnson. Cormier opened up as a slight favorite but is now the underdog at +105 on 5Dimes. Thinking about putting some money on him.
