The MMA thread

Good job UFC 187 is a stacked card to begin with because rumours are Jones just got pulled off it. Not sure what the details are yet but apparently something serious/ not injury related. Funny thing is Sonnen said the fight wouldn't go aheead a ffew weeks ago but everyone thought he was just chatting shit.

The rumours on Sherdog are that it is related to a domestic violence incident.

If it is true, UFC is fast becoming a joke.

Apparently driving under influence again Crashed his car and cocaine found...If it's true, they need to take the belt off him and put it up for grabs with Johnson vs Cormier

I'd swear you only post in the mama thread when it's something negative. Do you have a bit of a vendetta against the sport?

Not at all, I quite like MMA as it happens and try to keep up with it, even reading this thread very regularly. That being said I'm very much a casual fan, so getting into conversations about who should fight who etc… doesn't really interest me (especially because UFC do far too many shows for me to have a clue who 99% of the fighters are at this point) so I only really talk about it when it's newsworthy, which tends to be bad news.

My main point on this was how stupid it was for Jones to only spend a day in rehab, of course something like this was going to happen eventually.

Yeah If true he is an idiot, and should spend time away from the sport, meaning he will need to give up the title

A little fishy that nothing more concrete has come out yet. On the one hand if it was entirely baseless you'd think it would be quashed in no time.

Silly boy:

Wait, what? What's all this about Jon Jones? Would be gutted if Johnson vs Jones doesn't happen because of this.

I really believe Johnson can take the belt from him.

He's facing a felony hit and run which put a pregnant lady in hospital with a broken arm, also weed was found in the car (but no harder drugs) and he's still missing. He has a previous DUI to consider as well. My money would be on this fight not happening at 187 at this point. Hard to say how it will play out in the long run. Suffice to say the guy needs real help, before he spirals out of control even further.

Or as Koscheck puts it:

He did give himself up finally and is out on bail

No chance the fight will happen

And UFC really need to make an example of him. A DUI, The scuffle with DC, The Coke test, now this.

Suspend him for a year and strip him of the belt

I'd be surprised if the UFC did anything of the kind. They have been lacking real box office stars for a few years now and Jon Jones is definitely one of the few they have remaining.
This whole saga will bring more hate on Jones and possibly help them sell more PPVS when he does eventually return. The UFC has always been about the money! I don't see them changing now.

He's up against a Felony so UFC should strip him of his belt and give it to Rumble, and then allow Jones back as number one challenger after the legal case is finished.

So, after talking to Dana White, John Jones has been stripped of the title and suspended indefinitely by the UFC.

Cormier will take Jones place against Johnson for the vacant title.

I'd be interested to know what sort of weight Cormier is right next w but I guess as a wrestler, he's used to fast cuts.

Wow. I think it is the right decision but I am somewhat surprised it is the decision they've taken. I guess they've finally had enough of having to cover for his antics and decided it isn't worth it. I assume the suspension will last until he has been through a lengthy rehab process and appears to have his life back in order, so I'd guess at around a year to 18 months before we see him back.

I'm shocked they stripped but Cormier vs Rumble is a great match up. It was probably the only way they're was going to be a new champ!

I was more interested in the Weidman vs Belort fight, anyway.

If the UFC had any sense they would promote Weidman as much as possible in order for him to be a box office star. His fight should be the main event.

Actually DC can become as big a star as Jones. The event really hasn't taken as much as a hit as it should have done

Many seem delighted for Cormier, as am I and I hope he wins.

I still don't think he is good as is made out, but the same with Johnson. Neither are great. Jones would have pissed all over AJ IMO
