"Live now, a bunch of Brazilians yelling at Conor McGregor"

It was almost entirely middle-school level insults being thrown by the Brazilian "fans", not even worth translating. One said his mother was a ******, another said he dressed "like a fag", etc. etc. Paula Sack was constantly telling them all to be respectful. It was like watching an arena full of 7th grade bullies try to talk shit in a foreign language and just getting nothing in return. I'm surprised Conor stayed relatively composed to be honest.

Pretty weak, Brazil. You can do better.
Props to Conor for withstanding the barrage of third grade bullshit dealt out to him in this ambush of a Q&A.
Just compare that to any other Fight Club Q&A, what a total clusterfeck. I guess Brazilians just can't act civil.
McGregor is my fecking hero. Having to deal with that amount of screaming knob ends didn't phase him one bit. Told them to their faces that he's going to dismantle their hero and then left the door open for them to become McGregor fans after. Smart man
a lot of things were not translated. they were very rude with some of the questions. Some one said he mom was a transvestite. Any time you hear the girl talk she's saying how good he is and for the fans to show warmth and be respectful.
My Portuguese isn't perfect, but I understood about 70% of it and it was all pretty... weaksauce. Nothing clever or funny. Just people calling him gay, ugly, stupid and say he is gonna get knocked out

Comments from Conor's q and a in Rio. Either way, the majority of fans who usually go to those things ask or say a lot of stupid shit, no big deal. I think questioning whether it is a sport, is ridiculous. I found calling Aldo a bitch or pussy etc cringy as hell but acting like some random MMA fans have brought great shame on Ireland is hilarious to me.

It was particularly cringey the amount of fans there trying so hard to look like conor, the man bun's, one guy in a 3 piece suit with sunglasses and a dethrone hat, kids under ten years of age with man buns

The press conferences have been fun but are clearly scripted, in terms of the antics. These are 2 fighters and its only Dana in between them, if they wanted a go at each other he couldnt stop them if he wanted, even today when Conor grabbed the belt it was beyond staged.

From what I know about Conor, he is supposed to be sound and all his antics are put on just to sell the fight and make more money. He is a marketing dream from Dana. He'll make them a fortune if he wins the title.

As for the press conference, it was disgraceful. Because of where Conor grew up, he has a following of people who are not MMA fans but are simply jumping on the bandwagon, and a load of them are nothing but scumbags. None of them will ever have been to a MMA event in Dublin. You could see that in some of the questions that were asked. José Aldo should be given respect regardless of the fact that he is fighting a local lad. That crowd were a disgrace and they are not what the average Irish MMA fan is.

Because of where he grew up?! What do you mean by that?

the one in Toronto irritated me, he was jumping around like a drunk t**t trying to goad you into a bar fight. I know it was all for show, but it just made me think "i wish that lad would slap him down"

He seems like a good guy who is behaving like a clown to generate bigger PPV numbers. Win or lose, he will be laughing all the way to the bank, especially if as reported, he will make more than Aldo. He's basically incentivized to act like a complete clown to draw noobs in. I'm not really comfortable with any of it. They should stick to fighting, a bit of normal publicity without the clown show, and do their talking in the Octagon. I'm concerned that UFC will progressively spawn more and more "characters" like this and blur the lines between it and the likes of WWE.

I don't think that will ever happen. MMA is a competitive sport and only a moron would confuse pre-fight gamesmanship with the pantomime antics in WWE.

If anything, it's just getting closer to boxing where there's a long history of fighters exaggerating bad blood between each other to sell seats. That's relatively new to MMA where there's previously been a bigger emphasis on mutual respect, before and after fights.

I don't think boxing is a good example to aspire to, nor is the WWE. UFC should strive to retain a degree of dignity among the fighters, who shouldn't be encouraged to prostitute one another with fake pre-fight animosity to generate controversy. A degree of organic controversy where two fighters who legitimately dislike each other should be welcomed, but fake controversy should be avoided at all costs. What is now guaranteed is that a lot of up and coming fighters will view McGregor's fake behavior as a model for their own meal ticket to PPV points.

Yeah, I kind of agree with this. I liked the mutual respect in MMA. Part of what makes it special.

I don't think the controversy is fabricated at all. Conor is genuinely winding Aldo up, it's nothing new to be honest and I think anyone that outraged by his antics simply isn't a McGregor fan. Which is fair enough.

But controversy makes more profit unfortunately :(

I don't mind the antics but saying things like "you brazilian feck" is crossing the line in my book.

Some of the 'fans' were definite clowns, drunken morons not all that interested in MMA, it was the same in Brazil.

I must admit I was one of the people who was drawn in by McGregor. But because of him I watch the UFC weekly, and have watched a lot of past events. There are negatives i.e. the Scumbags yesterday, but there are plus points. Namely in his appeal which can draw in fans, similar to Rousey.

McGregor wasn't really the issue yesterday. The way the presser was run was.

Some dick got on the mic and said tiocfaidh ar la and some other crap.

I know I seen it. He wasn't being sectarian so there shouldn't be a problem. It's a well known Irish phrase he used to back up McGregor's claim that the Irish are taking over.

Yep, the organisation wasn't great but it was a full-house of Irish lads attempting to be as intimidating as possible. The entire tour has been a massive success in my opinion, wouldn't let some drunken morons tarnish it.

I know, I'm from N.Ireland. When you said "what are you talking about", I thought you had missed it or something, no worries.

I don't think that will really happen. Dana White and the UFC are just trying to get as much exposure as possible. I don't think it'll ever lead to characters or gimmicks like in WWE. They need the publicity to sell as many PPVs as they can. They can't just expect to sell PPVs without media exposure.

For what it's worth, my mate finished work yesterday and walked past the convention centre on his way to get the bus home.
He basically said the place was filled with scummers and loads were necking cans outside the place.

I was outside the convention centre yesterday and there were a few head the balls about alright, but fighting as a sport is gonna attract these types all over the world, not just Ireland.

It doesn't matter what sport it is or even if its a concert or whatever, this happens. I've seen a lot worse outside Old Trafford.

Is using steroids, then denying all the evidence of taking steroids, a proper way to promote the sport? And Anderson acted like a dick towards quite a few of the people he fought.

I could care less about the steroid thing. Nearly all fighters use some form of PEDs, very few get caught.

He's spot on about crossing the line.

Mendes vs. Lamas should be a good fight. Winner will probably face the champ next, either McGregor or Aldo. McGregor and Lamas have a bit of history, I'm sure they'll fight eventually.
