From what I'm reading it seems like the Brazilian fans were every bit as bad as the Irish. Which is fine really, no actual harm has been done.
Professional boxing isn't exactly a paragon of morality either.
That I can understand. Like i said, not a diss on Ireland. Its a diss on Dana and this insatiable need to overhype the fight as if it couldn't generate enough hype without the circus.
Yeah I know its about making more money. My bigger point is the UFC needs to mind not turning into a circus like sport where hype trumps professionalism just to earn bigger PPV numbers.
He shouldn't need to "sell the fight". People interested in it should know that its a big fight. We saw the same nonsense from Chael Sonnen. Its really uncalled for.
Unfortunately I'd say it's long gone now. They'll try and market it for all it's worth with a few fights by doing stuff like this if it proves to be successful which I suspect it will be. I find it cringing as well as I do in boxing but it's become part of the sport there.
There's certain fights that promote themselves....in boxing at the moment for example Mayweather hasn't been his usual trash talking self as he knows people will buy the fight. For the majority of fights though they will always feel they can do with a bit more promotion.
At the end of the day combat sports aren't really high on morals by the pure definition of them really. It's people kicking the shit out of each other for a while, whilst it's a talent and an art form it's not one which can be perceived as having a huge moral compass.
The promotion for this fight has been quite cringey but it's working because a few of my mates were texting me about it earlier and they aren't really ufc fans.
Whatever anybody is saying about the fight or Conor they will all stay up and tune in on July 11th hate or love him

I've actually gained a degree of respect for McGregor throughout this when i realized its not him but the UFC that is responsible for the circus atmosphere.

If you were Dana would you do the same? in this world of tweeting and sharing videos and them going viral, he is gold, bringing so much attention to there biggest PPV of the year, he would be stupid not to drain Conor for every last cent he can make him
I don't think I would to be honest. UFC is growing fast organically and doesn't need the WWE circus to pad the PPV numbers. I realize this is all about greed and money (aka "Business") but there needs to be a balance.

Controversy creates cash man, love it or hate it UFC is more popular than ever because of it, even if you have only seen it once or twice, you cant miss it when logging into social media sites these days, like the X-Factor sob stories (i dont know if they do that on the US version) it allows fans to get more emotionally invested in contestents or in this case fighters.
If you hate him you cant wait to see him get his ass beat, if you love him your gonna follow him everywhere and on every show he appears on, with the signing of CM Punk this was definetly on the minds of UFC officials, its showbiz..baby
I'm all for controversy as long as its real, not artificially manufactured to make a buck. If McGregor and Aldo legitimately didn't like each other, it would create a lot of natural controversy to promote the fight.
McGregor is a jumped up little shit who's going to get his arse handed to him.
Is that not what every fight press conference is though? artificially manufacutred grounds for promoting a fight and getting people interested, if they spoke the same language it would make for alot more conflict, but the fact eachother have to be explained what the other said 10 seconds later doesnt help. Mcgregor has been a knob throughout admitedly, but everybody is talking about it now, much like me and you are, "i hate that guy i hope he gets knocked out" etc etc, its working perfectly, its been a bit of a circus with the tour though, one presser is enough
My point is artificially manufactured = fake, which is a bit silly even if it gets people who ordinarily don't watch UFC interested. There has to be a point where the UFC balances the insatiable need to make money with its own credibility.
How come there's no Welsh UFC fighters anyway? Do all the tough Welsh blokes end up not winning anything at rugby instead?
I guess Wales is content to have provided the best British and European pound-for-pound boxer of the last 20 years, as far as fighting goes. And funny that you should mention rugby, seeing as though Wales is (after NZ of course) clearly the greatest pound-for-pound rugby nation in the world.
that post is so full of wrong.
What was the last trophy this second greatest "pound for pound" (whatever that means) rugby team won?
Not even getting into the nonsense about boxing...
Calzaghe = great fighter, but I think Lennox Lewis would have a thing to say about that statement though. But I guess that is one for the Boxing thread.By p4p I meant that when you consider the tiny size of its population, Wales in clearly second only to NZ in rugby. Maybe your rugby memory isn't that good, but the last thing we won was the 6 Nations in 2013, after having won it in 2012 as well. I know Irish rugby fans are very cocky at the moment, and in fairness for good reason (even though we did beat you this year), but let's not forget that Wales is still the joint leader (with England) when it comes to all time 6/5/4 Nations trophies.
And as for boxing, yes, I think it is pretty clear that Joe Calzaghe is the greatest pound-for-pound boxer Britain or even Europe has produced in recent memory, if not ever. This douchebag Mcgregor would love to retire with even a fraction of the respect in his sport that Calzaghe enjoys in his. But I wouldn't count on it, because he's going to have his cocky head kicked in by a proper fighter at UFC 189.

What kind of questions was he asked?Just watched the press conference in Dublin there of McGregor-Aldo and as a Irish man I'm ashamed, absolute scum and no respect toward Aldo and I reckon he'll be even more motivated to knock McGregor out after this.
The "questions" he was asked were vile, we have a good reputation for having the craic and that but we went beyond that tonight
I believe one fellow asked "What does José's pussy smell like?"What kind of questions was he asked?
