Exactly.
You have to applaud McGregor for the way he's turned the UFC upside down.

McGregor is apparently getting PPV points and will make much more than Aldo, which is a bit bizarre given that the champ is considered the best pound for pound fighter in MMA (along side Jones).
I think I heard Dana say that the fight was bringing in 77m at the gate. That's all because of McGregor. Love or hate the guy he's a massive attraction.
Its probably more so because of the Aldo-McGregor matchup than because of McGregor acting like he's a displaced WWE member. Nick Diaz also talks a lot of trash but doesn't get this kind of attention.
McGregor has backed it up everytime though. He's knocking guys out in the first round. Aldo hasn't taken a guy out in the last 5 years.
Not correct. He TKO'd Chan Sung Jung less than 2 years ago and also KO'd Chad Mendes. McGregor has looked impressive mainly because he's been ko'ing a bunch of scrubs in Dublin then fighting the mighty Dennis Siver in the states. He has yet to fight a top contender much less one of the best fighters in all of MMA. I'll be very impressed if he wins.
According to Dana, McGregor slapped the back of Aldo's head and now Aldo's refusing to do media!
McGregor is good no doubt about it but has not faced the elite in the weight class (Edgar, Chad, Cub or Lamas) so to bypass all that experience he could have gained with fighting one of these guys and going straight into a fight against a guy who is SO dominant in a stacked division will be his undoing.
Thing is, McGregor has dismantled anyone he's fought so far in the featherweight division so even if he loses he hasn't got much to prove. I know there's a couple he'd like to fight but surely he'll move weight division soon, unlike Aldo.
Aldo won't finish him, he can only hope for a decision. The only way I see Aldo winning is if he is successful with that kick like in the Faber fight.
Same should be said regarding McGregor. It's two quality fighters and anything could happen. McGregor genuinely could put Aldo down in the first round, Aldo could do the same.Good luck with that. McGregor is way too open and Aldo is lethal. If he closes the distance and connects then he'll finish McGregor. Not a shadow of doubt for me that Aldo goes into this fight as the favorite, some people are really underestimating how good Aldo is.

Korean Zombie had dislocated his shoulder and then Aldo TKO'd him. The Mendes Knee KO was great although he did grab the fence a couple of seconds before that to avoid being taken down. Not correct. Aldo is one of my favourite fighters, but I love how McGregor fights too so I don't care who wins as long as it's a great fight.
(Poirier wasn't a scrub, was a top 5 featherweight and McGregor made it easy. He is clearly very skilled)
I love Nick Diaz as well But I think Diaz and McGregor are vastly different. Diaz just has social anxiety and clearly hates speaking in public so says weird/awkward stuff. I think he said before that he hates fighting too and is terrified of it in the cage, I honestly think when Diaz is doing all that taunting shit in the ring, it's to convince himself he isn't scared.I'm impressed with McGregor as well but would rather he drop the WWE clown show and stick to proving himself inside the Octagon. I can see why he does it and why White and the Fertitas probably like it - it brings more PPV dollars in and raises the UFC's profile to new levels. Its still annoying though to have fighters grandstand the way the likes of Diaz and McGregor do.
I've no doubt in my mind McGregor could win by TKO in the first round. That left hook is something else and Aldo knows McGregor has that reach on him.Put him down as in submit or TKO him ? I don't think that's likely.

He beat Poirier comfortably as well, who is much a much better fighter than Siver I reckon. Let's not forget Chad was actually beating Aldo for most of that fight, the guy certainly has his weaknesses. Having said that, McGregor still has his work cut out for him, could go either way. Personally it is not his trash talk that is impressing me but rather his confidence in the ring and the fact he is coming out of the Octagon without a scratch on him against some of the best fighters in his weight division. He has an excellent reach, along with a great left hand and some excellent movement. This will be a cracker of a match for sure. Not correct. I suppose so, but its unlikely given Aldo's record. He hasn't lost in 10 years and isn't even fighting the top contender in his division. I think people are getting a bit intoxicated with McGregor's trash talk and extrapolating fantasies that he will be as good against Aldo as he was finishing minnowish fighters in the UFC lower divisions.
McGregor is no.4 so he is a top contender.
I think it's more than fair that McGregor is getting the title shot, especially if you look at who is left. Mendes' run to his second title shot was impressive but he wasn't beating the elite of the division either:
Nik Lentz
Clay Guida
Darren Elkins
Yaotzin Meza
Cody McKenzie
Is that more impressive than...
Dennis Siver
Dustin Poirier
Diego Brandão
Max Holloway
Marcus Brimage
So not sure why it's such a big deal McGregor is next in line after Mendes if you look at who both beat. Aldo has beaten everyone else so why not throw in someone new?
Mendes managed to get the title shot again without fighting Edgar, Swanson, Poirier or Lamas! Edgar got a title shot coming off a loss to Benson Henderson at lightweight...guys manage to avoid tough fighters all the time that people complain about.Interesting. I wonder how McGregor managed to get this far without fighting either Mendes or Edgar ?

The last person Chris Weidman fought before fighting Anderson Silva was Mark Munoz...
The last person Gustaffson fought before nearly beating Jon Jones was Shogun rua...
TJ Dillashaw had lost, and then won one fight against Mike Easton before he beat Barao.

I think McGregror's wide karate-like stance will give Aldo some problems initially but he's a very intelligent fighter who's good at adjusting to his opponent's style. This fight will go the distance. Both guys prefer to stand and neither has ever been KOd or TKOd. Either way this will not be a one sided fight im fairly confident of that.
Conor has the reach advantage for sure. But Aldo has probably the best head movement in the division and i think he will be able to deal with it as the fight moves on. Also Aldo has been very hesitant to use his kicks in recent fights, which was one of his biggest weapons in WEC, because of his fear of being taken down. This won't be the case against Conor. Aldo has the speed advantage too. I think Conor hits harder though and his confidence is amazing. Fascinating matchup.I think reach will be the main problem for Aldo. McGregor clearly has it.
