The MMA thread

The UFC know what they are doing. If they know they can't sell the tickets, they'll stack the card.

Corriera asked for the fight, I can't see her winning though. As for Anna vs Cookie Monster, Anna so deserved it. I hope that weight class grows and other woman fighters come in but I can see Anna owning that class for a few more fights.

I went to an event in that same stadium, I think? Or is there more than one stadium in Koh Samui?

The night I went, it turned out that it was all underage fighters. I got massively perturbed by watching skinny wee kids knocking lumps out of each other and only lasted 30 minutes. Are tickets expensive? Was cheap as chips when we went. With hindsight, that should have been our first hint we weren't going to see the real deal!
Saw a poster last night advertising today's matches. Kids and women on the bill!

'PetSiam' looks worryingly young...Jenny looks like she's already taken a few kicks to the head though.

took that photo couple of years ago... (14yo kids i would say thowing vicious kicks)

i remember the majority of the fighters were quite big that night, mostly europeans beating the crap out of the locals.

and in the end some local kids also fought.

So who's everyone got Maia or Laflare?
Hopefully Laflare. But Maia is a big test for him

Also tonight will most likely be the final time we ever see Koscheck in a fight.cfsir play to him for taking the fight so fast after being chocked out a couple of weeks ago. But apparently he only has one fight in his contract left and he simply wanted to fulfil that

If he gets finished he will surely quit

There isn't a hope Kosecheck will win though.

Probably not

But you might recall Jon Fitch wrestling and dominating Erik Silva a couple of years ago, and Kos is also a great wrestler. I think he has a chance but I certainly wouldn't bet on it

Who you got for Mendes vs Lamas and Aldo vs McGregor?

Mendes and sadly Aldo :(

A couple of days ago I downloaded all of Aldo's fights and watched them all. I don't think he's as good as he used to be. He's been taken the distance in most of his UFC fights and Edgar could have beat him. I think McGregor kicks just as well as him and if the fight stays on their feet I believe McGregor will take him. Hope so anyway.

@Big-Red

Anyway, I heard there was a crazy stoppage in the prelims. Supposedly the ref thought someone tapped when he didn't. What a farce.

Cool pic. Were people getting seriously injured? They have quite a few Europeans on the bill here. Tbh I lazily assumed the locals would kick their arses.

McGregor has Aldo rattled already I reckon. McGregor telling Aldo he's gonna die in Portuguese was pretty chilling.

Yes.

I think the majority of those euro fighters are living and doing their training camps right there in Thailand. Its really cheap so its a good way to get your Muay Thai going. You can say they are almost as local as the thai people. European genotype is just naturally a stronger one, and it makes a big difference.

Would be a cool place to train tbf. Great weather, great food and the beach. They can bow to my superior genotype.

Dillashaw out injured with a fractured rib. Flyweight title bout moves up to main event. UFC is really in a bit of a crisis with champions always getting injured at the moment. It leaves UFC 186 looking really thin in comparison to the following 3 ppv's. Although pull outs on those cards are more or less guaranteed too.

Before these guys get the belt they will fight through anything as they know the contender opportunity will simply pass them by until they are fit and it could be a long road back. Look at Dos Anjos fighting with a torn MCL. Once they are the champ though they will pull out at the first sign of trouble. Not enough incentive for them to stick to the planned date. Tricky problem for the UFC as to what to do about that though. Just a general point more than aimed particularly at TJ, I don't really know the severity of the injury regards to fighting.

The McGregor charade is going to abruptly end when they actually fight.
I dunno, I'm a big McGregor fan but I am cautious about his match up with Aldo. I think if there is a man to beat Aldo right now it is McGregor. I'm 50/50, think Aldo fans will be surprised it won't be as straight forward a fight as they're expecting.

I don't think it will be a domination, but also don't think McGregor has the tools to beat Aldo, especially if he's focused.

McGregor's left hook can be lethal, and he's a reactive fighter. The fact Aldo is as angry as he is will only help McGregor.

I doubt Aldo will be fazed by McGregor's trash talk. He will just be more focused. This will be the first time McGregor has faced a fighter of this calibre. If he wins, hats off to him, but I doubt he has the speed and aggression to match Aldo.

Aldo was clearly aggravated by McGregor and his antics in the stare down, which I'd put at 1-0 McGregor in these very early stages. Although Aldo appears a lot more calm in the following video, talking to his automated toilet.

That's par for the course I suppose. Nick Diaz managed to get under GSP's skin at their pre-fight presser, and GSP managed to take care of business. This looks like a similar situation for me. Far superior fighter matched up against a talented trash talker.

Still feel it's too tight to call right now but I do believe McGregor will surprise a few and maybe earn some new respect. Either way it's sure to be a great fight, still ages away though!

Nick isn't knocking out everyone in 1 round, or 2. Reminds me a bit of Liddell, he just sits back with his lead arm way out, looking for the KO punch.

McGreggor has terrific form, he gets so much behind his punches without great exertion. Im a huge Aldo fan, can't wait to see what happens!

It might be like Cormier vs. Jones, and the gulf in class will be immediately obvious. Though Aldo won't come out and beat McGreggor with whatever his own best technique is. I suppose a right or left cross. Jones is something else, miles above anyone else, P4P.

Cyborg has signed with Zuffa meaning that the Mayweather vs Pacquiao of Women's MMA might actually be on the horizon. She will fight once more at 145 in Invicta first. They'll also likely want to make sure she can make 135 with a fight against someone else first and then book the Rousey fight after that (if everything goes as expected) for early 2016. It's certainly one of the most anticipated fights out there which shows how far Women's MMA has come. I wouldn't be surprised if Rousey were to catch her in a quick armbar like she does everyone else though.

So there is a press conference in the mall beside my uni in 2 hours at 4. I get off class at 3. Not sure if I want to wait around and try hit it up, I want to go home but I also want to start yelling about Crumlin when McGregor is talking.

How good has the embedded series been for Aldo vs. McGregor? The anticipation for this fight is ridiculous.

I hope Aldo beats the shit out of Conor for 5 rounds and finish him KO in the 5th. CANT WAIT!!!!!

Also glad TJ fight is postponed for selfish reasons. I am in my honeymoon during that time and would have missed it!

The Aldo - McGregor fight is going to be over fast. There's no way two strikers can have this much dislike for each other and go for 5 rounds. Aldo always seems to have good opening rounds, and McGregor looks so loose at the start of fights. McGregor also seems to have a big size advantage over Aldo that he has probably never encountered before. Should be a great fight.

I'm going Lawler and McGregor.

I'm between 2 outcomes.

McGregor via KO/TKO (60%) or Aldo (40%) via decision.

i feel its gonna be difficult for Aldo to finish McGregor (unless he land some crazy kick), who might be too big and aggressive for him.

Aldo won't finish him, he can only hope for a decision. The only way I see Aldo winning is if he is successful with that kick like in the Faber fight.

The important thing is that there's no possible outcome to McGregor v Aldo that won't be extremely entertaining.
