The MMA thread

Recently, Tristar head trainer Firas Zahabi spoke with Canada’s SportsNet about a potential for GSP’s return to the octagon and he appeared just as in the dark as the rest of us.

“I don’t know. It’s 50/50 and I don’t think he knows either,” said Zahabi, via MMAFighting. “I think if he ends it this way, it was good. He ended up with Fight of the Night. An incredible seesaw battle. He showed heart, he showed guts, he showed he’s a fighter.”

“He has 22 fights in the UFC, alone. That’s a lot of training camps. That’s a lot of years of sacrifice. He can’t go out. He can’t do this. He can’t have a wife and kids. He can’t have a steady girlfriend. He can’t have anything normal in his life. He’s living a very unbalanced life. How long does he want to do that for? He’s 32. When is he going to start living his life? At 40? It’s a hard decision for him to make and he’s got a lot of things going on in his life. He has to decide what he wants to do. Nobody can decide for him.”

“I tell him, it’s about motivation. Do you have the motivation to do this again? If yes, and you want to put your life on the back burner and do another camp, lets do it. If you don’t have the motivation to do it, don’t do it. You’re just going to go out there and get hurt. You’re going to cut corners and be miserable and you’re going to go out there and you’re going to get hurt.”

Everyone loves super-fight talk right?

That’s exactly what Jon Jones discussed during a recent UFC Q&A session with fans as he dropped news that he plans to move to the heavyweight division within the next two years:

“I think that’s going to happen within the next two years – I’ll go up to heavyweight, permanently,” said Jones as transcribed by B/R. “But I am looking to take a superfight sooner or later, within the next year. So, yeah I’m excited for it. I’ve been really thinking about me and Cain Velasquez going at it. It would be huge for the sport. He’s definitely the toughest guy in that division, and he’s not that big, so I think it would a really entertaining fight. Don’t be surprised if you see that sooner or later.

Daniel Cormier would give it a good shot, I reckon. But they're best friends so it's never gonna happen sadly. I think Josh Barnett might do alright, probably wouldn't win but still interesting anyway.

why friendship has to be a problem? Today i beat the crap out of my best friend in tennis. 4 straight victories in a row now and i want to keep it that way (after 2 straight defeats early this season)

Anyway, isn't he going to change division or something like that?

DC is also a fatass at Heavy. He mainly fights there because in his wrestling days he had a bad weight cut and it jacked up his kidneys. However, he has basically said he can make 205 through diet alone easily enough without the water cut which is now dangerous for him. So he is moving to a division with a more optimal weight for him.

That and him and Cain give each other reach arounds or something!

Yeah, Cormier should definitely be a light heavyweight with his build. Besides, no one in their right mind would want to face Cain!

I'm very interested to see what Cormier can do against Gustafsson or Jones, I think he can definitely give them a run for their money.
