The MMA thread

That was a entertaining fight, shame it finished so early. But still a good step for the woman's division

Rousey is money. This is probably the best thing to happen for UFC. A competitive fight but Rousey continuing the first round armbar stoppage. Shes a killer.

I know, I know! I just hate his style, especially when he's unreasonable enough not to allow Hendo to punch his jaw really hard. It was a particularly bad style match-up for Hendo, but its good to see his chin is still made out of titanium and that he can remain competitive with the elite of the division.

Haha machida vs. hendo is like chelsea vs. barca

Conor McGregor was on ariel helwanis podcast, the MMA hour yesterday and he was fecking hilarious. The interview started at about 1hour 54 minutes.

Just watching the UFC157 prelims, what a fight by Bermudez and Grice! That's about as good as it gets! What a great start of the show, fantastic performance by both, they really took some bombs to the face, hope the main card is as good as this. Looking forward to the Machida - Hendo fight and Brendan Schaub vs Lavar Johnson, I can't see the latter ending in anything else than a knockout.

Pfff, Schaub wanted a fecking hugfest instead. :(

It's a super card. Looking forward to it.

Predictions

Struve
Silva (I hope)
Sanchez
Lombard
Lad from Afganistan

feck it, Bryan Caraway was an 11/4 outsider in his fight against Mizugaki, I thought that was an outrageous price and had 40 quid on him, my only bet of the night. For anyone who didnt see it, he went into his corner between the 2nd and 3rd round and that fecking wench of a girlfriend of his (Miesha Tate) told him he was two rounds up, and she advised him to "coast" the last round. Skip forward five minutes and Mizugaki won the last round, and wins a split decision. fecking sickened. Ah well

My predictions tonight ;
Dong Hyun Kim
Sanchez
Yahya
Okami (I really can't call this one, change my mind about it constantly)
Struve
Stann

UFC folk are clearly much better at organising fight cards than I am, but there's been a trend lately it seems, to put a striker vs a grappler in the opening fight of the main card. I, all for grappling, but these types of fights are usually boring as shit. Derek Brunson vs Chris Leben springs to mind. It just starts the night off badly.

Hunt walks away like a boss. Broke his jaw apparently.

Great fight between Silva and Stann. I get worried every time Wanderlei steps in there now. He's had some horrible ko's in recent years but that was a throwback fight for him. Credit to Stann for throwing down with him too.

fecking cnuts. Show cuts off leading into the third round of Struve/Hunt because it fecking overran leading in, typical that it cuts off right before that third round finish and then what sounds like a class ME. Will try hunt those two out online as it's not repeated tonight for some reason.

A decision or two that seemed a bit strange. Good to see Sanchez back, certainly nowhere near his best though.

That was fecking brilliant! The card was completely flat and then BOOM  Those last two fights, wow. Hunt vs Struve was hilarious, I really wanted Hunt to win so when he kept climbing into Struve's guard and didn't seem to want to stand I was screaming at him to get the feck up.

Then watching Wandy fight I was nervous before it, it's like watching a mate fight for me  We were all going mental in my living room at 6am or whatever time it was when he knocked him out.

Loved it.

Same thing happened to me. I probably should have known there'd be alot of decisions so I should have set the recording to to on longer, cos I knew I'd fall asleep. The first four fights were mostly boring as feck aswell.

Has anyone watched any of Conor McGregor's fights on youtube? I checked out a couple and he has some serious stand up, very relaxed and fluid, it looks good. Granted, it wasn't against the highest competition but still.

Skip to 6:00 to see a sweet knock out.

I've seen him fight in the flesh 3 times, he's an animal. He's a mad fecker aswell, he trains in straight blast gym in Dublin nearly 7 nights a week, I used to go there when I lived in Dublin, very nice bloke but he definitely has a screw loose, in a good way. He's fighting Marcus Brimage in Sweden in April.

Mark Hunt replaces Overeem against JDS at 160.

Could easily see an upset there but I'd back JDS to bounce back from that title loss. Time to see what he's made of.

Watched that interview with him on MMA Hour, was great.

Yea, tough fight against Brimage I think.

Brimmage will be a very tough start and a big step up from what he is used to.

I was listening to the lads on the ESPN podcast and they reckon McGregor will quickly become one of Dana's ten favourite fighters due to his style and personality.

JDS is going to destroy Mark Hunt, he just needs to make sure he doesn't get caught with one of his vicious hooks. JDS is on another level as Hunt and will take him apart, it'll go just as the JDS against Big Country fight.

I hope GSP has so much hate for Diaz that he dares to stand and bang with him like he did against Josh Koscheck. Hoping for a Diaz win but more importantly, for a memorable fight. I've been waiting too long to see this fight, don't want to be disappointed now.

I think he'll still win but I don't think it's anything close to a gimme for JDS. Then again, I thought Junior was going to destroy Cain and I still haven't went back and watched that fight:(

GSP is just promoting the fight, I doubt he really gives a feck either way about Diaz, he knows he can wrestlefeck him to a decision. Diaz doesn't even have the one hit KO ability to make it that interesting, imo. Still looking forward to it on the tiny hope that Diaz can pull it out of the bag.

Did you watch the Wanderlei vs Stann fight, Vato? Didn't notice you posting about it.
