The MMA thread

I think for the title to change hands Edgar needed to do more than what he did IMO.

He looked the freshest throughout the fight but he never really did any major damage, alot of his attacks were quick slips / counters where as benson got the money shots in and left a more lasting impression.

Im thinking the kick to the head from the ground and the guillotine in the last few seconds of the round left him up.

Anyone else going to this tonight?

Buakaw was fighting? That guy is a beast!

Just watched Strikerforce: Rousey vs Kaufmann, Rousey wins again by armbar. Looked easy.

He was incredible mate. 2nd round TKO with a body kick. All the Thais were amazing as you'd expect. Shame Liam Harrison was injured and had to pull out of his fight.

In the first fight the Thai bloke caught a kick from his opponent and threw him over the top rope.

When he got back in he landed a head kick and some vicious elbows before the ref called an end to it. It was one of the best cards of fighting I've ever been to. The That LCFC owners know how to put on a great show for sure. Tickets were only £10 as well.

Also, wtf? I've just seen that the UFC was cancelled at the weekend because Jones wouldn't fight Sonnen on short notice. So wrapped up in WW world I didn't even know it was on. And now apparently Machida doesn't want to fight Jones in September so Jones is fighting Belfort instead.

Ah, sounds like that was great fun. A tenner is a bargain for that!

Yea I have no idea what's going on. Yesterday night it was said Machida would fight him at UFC 152 and they even had a new poster up. When I woke up this morning it had changed again to Belfort fighting him instead. Would love Belfort to win but he gets smashed, imo.

Apparently Anderson called Dana and said he would fight any other LHW other than Jones at the weekend to try and save the card but Dana didn't take him up on it. Fair play to Anderson though! No idea how true that is because there are stories flying around everywhere at the minute. The media call with Dana last night is hilarious, he's just going off on one.

I think the Sonnen rejection is all a part of a bigger plot.

Jones rejects Sonnen => Sonnen trash talks Jones => More Hype => More PPV sell out sometime in the future.

Bad move from Jones imo.

Stylistically Sonnen and Hendo are pretty similar but still all the advantages would've have been with Jones. He's bigger, coming off a full training camp and he wouldn't even have to worry about the one punch ko power that Henderson has because Sonnen only uses strikes to set up his takedowns.

Odd decision. Guess he feared being embarrassed by a massively inferior opponent.

I just cant see it, i dont think Jones fears Sonnen 1 bit, why should he? it seems more of a pride issue, he wont fight him because in his eyes sonnen doesnt deserve to be in the octagon with him.

Aldo and Rampage are off the UFC 153 card. Pissed that Aldo got injured, one of my favourite fighters.

Anyway, they now have Anderson Silva vs Bonnar...what the feck? I get that it's in Rio and Silva will be a huge draw and saves the card but Bonnar was the best opponent they could find?

That's a joke of a fight. What was Joe Silva smoking when he made that decision. The only half decent contender left to make an interesting fight with Silva is Chris Weidman.

Injuries to fighters is really destroying these UFC events, but so is UFC's bizarre decisions in such instances.

Weidman just had surgery on his hand so he wasn't an option anyway. It's pretty stupid but still, at least we get to see him fight again and Bonnar is a big LHW who hasn't been finished in his career so it might still be a fun fight.

Big shout to Manchester Predators own Rob Sinclair tonight, beating the UFC's Andre Winner on Bamma at 10 Wembley.

Rob has the best knock out ratio in professional MMA (Something like 10 out of 12) and how the UFC have missed him is a complete mystery to all at Preds and those in the know in UK MMA; hopefully this win will open a few eyes.

Have trained with Rob down at Manchester Predators, i'm heavyweight and he is a lightweight but trust me, he is an absaloute beast....Hopefully he will now finally get the recognition he deserves.

A bit of Rob Sinclair.

Here's an absaloute legend of the sport, one of the early pioneers of MMA 'Mario (the Machine) Sperry' stayed over at my place in Salford for a few days late last year just after beating Renzo Gracie at ADCC.

Check some of this stuff for brutal, kicking to the head on the floor etc...before the gloves and rules were introduced.

Myself pictured with Mario on the right and Rodrigo Antunes to the left, was an honour to get twisted up and smashed off them :wenger:

Jones is a beast! I couldn't believe he didn't tap. His resume of fighters he's beaten is top class.

Yeah. He's a ridiculously good fighter. Complete package.

He'll have to move up to heavyweight just to challenge himself at some point if he keeps on running through opponents in this division.

Unless something incredible happens, Maia has locked submission of the night

I was lying down while watching the fight but when the blood squirted out I immediately jumped up. Just a one way fight that was.

Prado looks excited
