The MMA thread

Indeed, Jones would be too big, too strong and simply too good for Silva. GSP is smaller and definitely a better fight for Anderson. Hope it happens as both lack a real contender in their respective divisions (although I think Rory Macdonald will be a big contender in that division in the future).

As for the 'buzz' issue, UFC is making huge profits from these regular events and I don't think it's affecting the 'buzz'. MMA is the fastest growing sport and I would like to see fights every weekend to be honest. Of course if the fights start becoming boring & hugging contests against the cage a la Jodran & Kongo, then UFC will lose some of its lure, but that happens in every sport every now and then so it's not a major issue, so far at least.

Anybody think all these shows every week are starting to kill the UFC buzz a bit? Too much of a good thing is bad and all that

I agree with this completely, I liked UFC nights more when there were only the numbered UFC events about once a month. It just seems there are way too many events in quick succession now.

Perhaps they could go the wrestling route, have a weekly show but then the big "UFC 150!" events every couple months.

I don't get why Bader, Machida, Shogun or Vera are all up for a potential title shot again (Especially Vera). If Jones beats Hendo again then he'll be in a rematch with one of those four and he's already beat them convincingly. Wouldn't mind seeing him fight Gustafsson instead.

Really like Machida. Bader very foolish rushing in like that, Machida far skilled to be taking those risks

What the feck was Vera doing though? Why the hell was he trying to re-adjust his mouth guard when he should have been trying to get away from Shogun first? Madness.

Yea I want Edgar to win as well.

He definitely had some serious concentration issues in his fight. Kept backing up, too wary of Shogun's aggression. Should have thought about his own game and not get worried about his teeth

For me Edgar had a very, very slight advantage going into round 5 and only extended it. In that round he put daylight between them. But we all know MMA judging is a lottery. One judge gives it 49-46 Edgar, the others give it to Henderson.

For me the annoying part is that with all Edgar's rematches recently, this is the fight above the rest that I feel should go to a rematch. But theres been so many for the title before now that it wont happen.

For me I think Nate would beat either man anyway so might as well just look forward to the next fight

Poor Frankie, i had him winning 3 rounds and drawing the 4th. Gotta say I'm glad there won't be a rematch though, the top of the division needs to get their chance.

Wasnt round 2 were he knocked him down and had him in the guillotine? Shocking if they gave that to Benson

I think it sucked too that Dana wouldn't admit Frankie won during the press conference, he is usually the first to jump on a bad decision but this time he stood on the fence knowing if he admitted Frank won it would be open to another rematch.

Just watched it, didn't think Henderson deserved it but glad theres not another rematch. I think that Diaz will take it.

What is up with Guillard? I think his last two fights against Lauzon and Miller had Guillard rocking both early in the first few seconds only to go on and loose both of those fights not getting out of the first.

That's Guillard all over. Puts together a few wins when under no pressure, but when it comes time to getting a really high profile win under his belt he ends up losing. He's now 1-3 in his last 4 so he needs a win to stay relevant in the UFC. Safe to say he's never getting a title shot unless he actually turns a corner

His chin seems suspect too, Lauzon rocked him and he's not well known for that, and that kick form Cowboy didn't seem like it connected as well as it could have, love watching him fight though.

Very close fight and I thought Frankie won that. Maybe he should use this chance to move down and fight Aldo, he'll be a big dude in the featherweight division and at least give Aldo some sort of a challenge.
