The MMA thread

I'm so happy for Aspinall and glad he is using the opportunity now to become a HW great, in beating the likes of Pavlovich and Blaydes, with ease. However I do think he also knows deep down he is lucky to avoid peak Jones, Stipe, Ngannou, DC, Overreem etc. I think a peak Jones breaks his arm and a peak Stipe knocks him out but that's that.

I'd much prefer to see Tom go to 205 and fight Pereira. Not sure he could make 205 though because he's fecking huge, but that would be 10x more impressive than him beating a finished Jones or a 40 year old Stipe.

Rakhmonov v Machado Garry UFC 310. Great booking.

Yep, that's a good fight. Biggest step up for both of them. Think Shavkat takes it with a KO or submission, and hopefully they can re-book him vs Belal early next year. Should be fun though, Garry gameplans well and Shavkats defense isn't the best.

I was dreading Oliveira throwing that away after dominating 4 rounds and it almost happened.

Chandler is one tough bastard.

Now for Stipe to deliver a historic MMA moment. Slim chance but we can hope.

Michael Chandler tough as shit but he got his ass handed to him for the majority of that and then his one flurry he was repeatedly hitting Oliveira in the back of the head. And earlier holding the fence. And gloves. And nothing said. Pointless referee

That trip in the first round effectively ended Stipe. That and the teep kicks that really tenderised his gut.

Stipe was utterly unnerved from those two things.

Stipe looked every bit his age in there.

Jones is incredibly hard to assess as in is he looking too old for this now. But one thing is his body to body is unmatched.

Yeah Jon ain’t fighting Tom I reckon and to be honest not sure if I blame him. For as old as Stipe is the age gap between Jones and Aspinall is bigger and Jones himself is old. He’s also very inactive and hasn’t taken care of his body at all. Different sports but Ronaldo is in SA after living an incredibly clean lifestyle. Would have been a great fight if their primes overlapped but they didn’t.

I can see why Jones is ducking Aspinall. I don't think it's because he's scared, it's because he gets nothing from it.

Lose and it's "Jones isn't the GOAT" and win and it's "Aspinall was not good enough".

But at the same time, his legacy within the hardcore fans will take a slight hit for a while if he keeps fighting but not with Aspinall.

I don’t see how this whole “Jon gets nothing from it” angle is being pushed, at 37 he beats the best guy in the division who has cleaned out everyone? Would basically cement his status.

Can’t agree, it would be the most impressive of his HW victories in my opinion and would be him lapping the next next generation in a higher weight class

Can’t see Jones fighting Aspinall after that, I’m glad they fought but there’s a part of me that feels cheated watching a 37 year old versus a 42 year old, who are visibly much worse than they were in their pomp, fight for a title.

Weirdest thing from that card though was the Oliveira fight, the amount of punches to the back of the head Chandler got away with was staggering.
