The MMA thread

It wasn't an intention to belittle Stipe's resume or DC who is one of the GOAT's, I'm just saying we can pick holes in anyone's resume. You can say JDS wasn't a good win but he was on a great streak going into fight, defended the title, beat Stipe immediately after losing to Cain only 18 months before Stipe won the belt himself.,

This is despite the fact that you point you made was that Cain's resumé wasn't particularly deep, which was literally a point I'd already outlined in my post and didn't need argument.. I was stating an opinion that at peak performance Cain has the ability to beat pretty much anybody, but he wasn't able to stay healthy for long enough to prove that.

But one off performances against one top opponent in JDS (who always crumbles to pressure fighters) isn't enough to say that his "peak" was that great.

There are lots and lots of fighters who "at their peak" looks absolutely indestructable only for it never to be replicable. Out of his 2 fights against JDS, Cain hasn't show that "peak" at all.

Fighters who at their best performances looks undestructable: TJ Dilashaw, Cody Garbrandt, Yoel Romero, Adesanya, Max Holloway, McGregor.

All these guys were "unbeatable" until they were found out, countered and then regularly beaten. Adesanya is the perfect example, people hyped him to be the guy to beat Jones until it was found that his TDD was meh.

Absolutely. He was a very good champ. I just don't put him on par with the likes of Jones, who beyond being a champ champ, is arguably one of the best ever and still undefeated (if you ask Dana that is).

He isn't undefeated. We don't need to ask Dana about that. And some of his "wins" were more than suspect eg. his fight with Reyes.

He’s more or less undefeated given the circumstances. The Reyes fight should’ve probably gone to Reyes, but at the end of the day it was recorded as a W for Jones.

At the end the day, he...isn't. He has an L on his record. To your point, everything needs to be taken into account. The circumstances of "wins" like the one against Reyes have to be taken into account just as much as the loss he has on his record does.

He has a "loss" on his record, just like a "win" over Reyes.

Biggest underdog of the night. Let's go Venezuela!!

Duben is (looked) legit with her striking. She had her rocked already by the time of the KO with some beautiful strikes, even while moving backwards. Dana signed her on the spot.

Fun fight that one, Yizha showing great durability but Santos put a beating on him.

How he made it to the final bell after this, who knows...

Not just made the final bell but pressured the whole fight while getting jump kicked to the body, elbowed in the forehead and generally just having the crap kicked out of him, clearly has insane conditioning and it might've been interesting if it was 5 rounds as Santos did slow a little.

Another fun one just now, these guys have got so good at defending rear naked chokes though, it's crazy the positions they can survive.

Disappointing performance from Burns, maybe starting to show his age a bit as he just seemed a bit slower to the punch (also probably because he throws with so much power) and got out worked by Brady, not the most entertaining fight with lots of clinch work on the fence but Brady wont care.

Bellator lightweight belt on the line up next.

Usman Nurmagomedov 17-0 (Champ) vs Alexander Shabliy 24-3

edit. bit of a snooze fest eventually #AndStill

He should have lost to Smith too after the illegal knee. Smith carried out but could have taken the DQ win.

Great main card so far. The Ode fight was a banger and the Zellhuber fight was a legit FOTY contender. Lopes smacked Ortega around for three rounds as well and now we get the two pick-em title fights.

Man, taking the back and getting the hooks in but then locking your own legs together over the ankles is a white belt level error by Shev....

Who is her BJJ coach?
