Very impressive - Islam could dominate this division for a long time and that says something considering the quality.

Chandler/Poirier winner probably gets the next shot I think, Charles vs Beneil for next in line after that?

EDIT: Totally forgot about Volk! Islam is funny as feck, 'where is this short guy?'

You’re not just disagreeing with me but all major media judgements. Yan won all 3 rounds, the only close round was the first.

O'Malley won the third. Did most of the damage. Just because Yan took him down doesn't mean he won the round.

Only possible danger to Islam is someone with genuine 1-shot KO power on the feet catching him clean. But I don’t think the likes of Chandler (who has the power) are good enough. Gonna be a long reign

Chandler or Poirier would be decent opponents after he clears Beneil.

He would fold Poirier like a pretzel. He just submitted the man with the most submissions in UFC history and made it look easy. Poirier doesn't have a great ground game at all. Makachev would make it easy.

Think Volkanovski will just be too small tbh. I'm hoping Chandler beats Poirier next month and get's a shot. Going to take much more than that to convince me on Islam, he's beaten nobody of note outside of Charles which is why I find it surprising that everybody sees him as unstoppable. Impressive so far but I need to see him against the rest of the top guys in this division.

That's why they fight. Styles make fights.

But that's sort of the point here. Poirier doesn't have the style to compete with Islam. I'm not sure why it would be an intriguing fight. Islam would take him down almost immediately and control position for the round.

Chandler is not much different but at least he'd have the one shot KO power so he'll hope he can land something. Gaethje would be in the same boat as Poirier. I think they'd be easy matchups for Makachev.

Really? Ok, who beats him?

Poirier nearly choked out Khabib. I think anything can happen when these guys get in there. Same applies to Chandler and Gaethje. Someone gets clipped and they're out.

Islam will murder Poirier. Poirer has nothing that’ll threaten him

I think it would be a good fight. Not sure it would happen given that Dustin fights Chandler next and the winner would probably have to wait for the next title shot. The dilemma for Dana now is whether to give Dariush a shot or whether to do a rematch with Charles in Brazil.

Charles fights Benni whilst Islam fights Volk?

Everyone can get clipped but it's not likely to happen from Poirier. Given the huge deficit he has on the ground, I don't see it. By that logic, Conor would have a better chance against Islam because even though he doesn't have a ground game either, he at least has a higher chance of clipping Islam.

That's what I think will happen. They already promised Volk the next shot at the title, but they'll put Charles back in the mix and Dariush can't be far off either.

I genuinely don't see Dustin/Chandler/Justin getting the next shot. And I don't think they should. He'll run through them while the guys who should be fighting for the title are stuck waiting for their chance.

I think we may be overrating Islam a bit based on the irrational exuberance of the moment. He deserves props for raising his game to win today, but his record coming into this was one of plowing through lower quality fighters. Therefore it would be hard to say whether today was a one off or something different. Its harder to fight the Poiriers, Gaethes, and Chandlers of the world than it is the likes of Drew Dober, Bobby Green, or Dan Hooker. And if he wants to be a dominant champ, he will have to go through the top contenders anyway, which means all of the guys I mentioned.

Not really. Lots of people thought he was the best lightweight and he proved that he was. If has nothing to do with rasing his game.

It's much harder to fight Charles than it is to fight the Poiriers, Gaethjes, and Chandlers. And he just finished Charles with contemptuous ease, despite the fact that Charles had the most difficult style for Islam.

Agreed.

I’d like to see Benni fight Islam eventually. Battle of 2 different devout religious men, there’s something a bit tasty about it

 Not sure that is the most intriguing part of it, but now that you mention it, they are both ultra religious. But on a serious note, Islam was talking up Dariush's grappling way before the Tony Ferguson fight. And Beneil proved he's a world class grappler not just in dominating Ferguson on the found for 3 straight rounds but tonight's fight against Gamrot (which a lot of people thought he'd have a tough time winning).

Yea, it's been quite obvious to me for a while that he was the best in the division, he just put it beyond doubt today. He just absolutely walked through Charles who has given everyone else in the division a headache. Dominated him on the feet too where everyone thought Charles would have the edge. If these Dagestani's learn how to strike, it's not going to be fun for the rest of the org :D

Charles looked poor in the stand up part of the fight. Kept trying to be extra flashy unnecessarily. Islam is as good as advertised stand up solid and a strong chin too.

Dillashaw wasted everyone's time. Happy Aljo won though.

Great fight between Yan and Sugar. Gotta give the kid his props, he did great.

Beniel and Belal both looked incredible as well.

Yeah I had him winning but I assumed he would need to rely on his grappling and didn't expect him to have his way in the stand-up as well. Charles never really landed anything clean on him. DC did talk a lot about Makachev's striking in the weeks building up to the fight but i dismissed it as an AKA member's bias towards another.

I thought Yan won that but Sean priced he can hang. Was baffled by the decision.

TJ body can't handle the fight game without the support of pills it seems. Hard to get sorry for him.

Islam... Wow.

Islam vs Volk would be something. Volk dismantled one of the elite strikers , Holloway, comfortably. And as Volk said by himself, he is not easy to get on the ground especially if he puts on even more weight.

Islam will barely land a thing on him; I think how conclusive a victory it will be will shock a lot of people.

Great that Islam believes in himself and wants the fight, though.

Volk will beat him. Comfortably.

I love Volk but I don't think so. Size is going to play a factor and if/when Islam gets him down I don't think he has the ground game to compete.

I'm assuming this was the fight in the crowd the broadcast were referencing during Beneil-Gamrot? Of course it was Khamzat involved...

Getting a bit tiring now, hopefully he learns to grow up a bit.
