The MMA thread

great fight - O'Malley slightly naive but comes out with big credit regardless I think.

Should be 29-28 or 30-27 for Yan, but what do i know, i don't know the rules properly

I mean, certainly had the more significant strikes, and Yan is wearing his more obviously.

But that should have been a Yan decision.

As I understand it, if a round is mostly down to strikes, takedowns are disregarded. Strikes on the ground count of course, but you don’t score on them like you used to.

O'Malley's chin by the way! took 4 or 5 big left hands on the button.

Sugar uncharacteristically chill and magnanimous - even he knows!

Wow! I had it 2-1 for yan, but i think its ok. No reason too call this a controversial decision because it was so close.

Omalley looks genuinely surprised though

Yan also had almost 6 minutes of control, according to the stats, should matter quite a bit.

I agree with the decision.

I don't think it's mental, even though I would have scored it 2-1 at best for O'Malley. Think you're right re a takedown scoring hangover that isn't really the case as much these days.

Surprised by that decision but no issue with it. Yan did nothing with the takedowns and very little when he was on top, Sean was rarely in trouble on the ground. Great fight.

That's not a robbery at all, silly to call it that. I think Yan probably edged it but the first round was very close and O'Malley despite the takedowns did most of the damage in the 3rd.

Great to see O'Malley prove he belongs and add an exciting contender to this division.

That said, I don't think he deserves a title shot on the back of that, and would love to see them run it back as a 5 round main event.
