The MMA thread

That was amazing, the best fight I have ever seen. I thought it was going to be a draw. I thought Hendo won one round 10-8, but I thought Shogun won the last 2 10-8. Considering Bonnar had a 10-8 round, then Shogun should have had at least that.

Great fight. I had it as a draw but Hendo had the first 3 but Rua was dominant in the 4th and espically the 5th. 10-8 my arse, They should sort out the scoring. There was no backing down it was fantastic. Great to see Wandy stop Lee, I hope he gets some momentum going now.

Why does Faber get another title shot? Might as well throw Kenflo another shot now. I don't like Cruz and would like to see anyone take the belt off him.

Oh and Fedor won....nobody cares now, really should of went to UFC when he had the chance.

incredible fight, I have no idea how Shogun was still fighting in the fifth, probably should have been a draw

Speechless! What a fight! Almost as if the result doesn't matter though, that was probably the best fight I've ever seen.

The whole card was superb. Best UFC in a long long time.

Nice to see Wand look a bit more like his old self too although Le would've had him in the first if he wasn't constantly trying to finish the fight with a spinning back kick.

Crazy thing is too, none of the judges scored any rounds in the hendo fight 10-8, yet they gave bonnar TWO 10-8 rounds in his fight , where he did nothing but lay there and not look for a finish

Yep. Round 5 was a definite 10-8. All the judges scored it 10-9...

Great event but the ref fecked up in the Wanderlei fight by ending it too early. I thought Lee could've continued with only seconds left to the end of the round. It's a good thing that the same ref didn't appear in the main event or else he'd have stopped it in the third round when Hendo was destroying Shogun. I gave that fight to Hendo because he won the first three rounds (with one of them a 10-8) while Shogun won the last two (5th round a 10-8).

ive always found the scoring system in general to be a bit daft. If it were me then you should have 10-7, 10-6 and even 10-5 depending on the level of domination in the round.

as it is, its hard for a round to go anything other than 10-9 (as demonstrated in Shogun - Henderson), which is a bit restrictive, you cant really say that fifth round was as evenly matched as [any other 10-9 round from any given fight].

fantastic fight though. just fantastic.

See Lances picture above. You shouldn't listen to Joe Rogan so much. There was no way a doctor lets that fight carry on.

I didn't see Cung complaining either.

I thought ref was right to stop the Cung Lee Fight, also refs are not meant to take into account time left in the round

I thought the stoppage was a good one, wouldn't call it a bad call. Lee was getting beaten and wasn't defending himself. He was shooting for a single but it looked like he was holding onto Wandy's leg while Silva was just pummling him. I didn't think it was intelligently defending himself.

Great job by Rosenthal again in the main even not to stop it when it looked like Rua was in danger, if I remember correctly he done the Brock/Carwin fight and didn't stop it in the first either.

The one thing that really annoys me about the UFC is the complete inconsistency of the scoring. If Bonnar deserved a 10-8 for simply sitting on top, then Shogun would have deserved a 10-7 at worst.

Hendo could easily have been given a couple of rounds 10-8 also.

That was probably the best season of TUF ever.

Diego is gonna be a bit of a beast in the UFC with some good coaching behind him. Needs to work on his cardio especially but he'll intimidate a fair few featherweights with those hands.

What I find baffling is that the 5th got a 10-9, whereas an evenly matched round would end 10-9 with a late takedown :rolleye:

Anyone else hoping that Bisping gets his head kicked off by Miller tomorrow?

Personally I dont mind if either are victim of a heavy KO. Can't stand both of them.

Just watched this

His spinning elbow is quicker than the blades of an Apache

I hope there's sarcasm intended here

Damn, Miller was done after 2 rounds, 2 fecking rounds. His Tuf fighters had better cardio than that.

That went exactly as I expected it to go. Bisping might not be the best at anything, but he's pretty damn good at everything. And while he might never be good enough to give Anderson Silva a challenge, he's too good for someone like Mayhem.

That fight made it obvious that Bisping is underrated and Miller the opposite. Bisping has much more experience at the top level whereas Miller fights nobodies. Had he not started that hassle after Hendo/Shields then I doubt anyone would be interested in seeing him in the UFC. I really wanted to see Bisping lose but Miller had nothing for him besides a flailing overhand right

That was a shit fight. Miller gassed after four minutes and Bisping gassed in the second round. No power in his punches and he only won because Miller was even weaker due to poor cardio.

Brandao is going to be awesome though. Great finish.

Bisping didn't gas that badly imo. He's hardly Vitor Belfort in terms of punching power even when he's fresh but he delivered a pretty brutal, clinical beatdown. It was an impressive performance by him against a decent fringe contender.

Both of them obviously suffered from cutting weight. Miller more than Bisping. Bit of an anti-climax as a spectacle.

Brandao, though. Whoa! What a fighter he is.

Dana is hinting that Bisping is going to be on the FOX card at the end of January. Who can he fight?

Vitor?
Wandy?
Stann?

Munoz/Sonnen is on the same card so Bisping must be getting a top contender but who can he take?

Actually, looking at his record I didn't realise he'd lost as much/been around as long as he has. Still, sick arm bar though.

Yeah, I don't know wtf happened in that main event. Both guys looked like they were fighting in slow mo. I've heard people speculating that Miller had an adrenaline dump but the long lay off from competition can't have helped. He got brutalised.

When was the series actually filmed?

If it was in any way recent, it's no great surprise they took their eye off the ball regarding their own conditioning. Miller seemed like he was enjoying partying with all the losing fighters too. Terrible way to prepare for a fight.

You see the new coaches for Series 15?

Rivals Cruz, Faber to Coach TUF 15

The Ultimate Fighting Championship® announced today that The Ultimate Fighter®, the longest-running sports reality show on television, is moving to FX this March with an exciting, new live format.

The Ultimate Fighter® LIVE debuts on Friday, March 9 as part of a two-hour season premiere beginning at 9 p.m. ET/PT. The show will then air for one hour at 10 p.m. ET/PT every Friday for the next 11 weeks on FX. The three-hour finale will conclude FX’s premiere season of The Ultimate Fighter®LIVE on June 1 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. UFC® bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz and“The California Kid” Urijah Faber will serve as coaches on the upcoming season, with lightweight and welterweight contestants competing for two, six-figure UFC contracts.

This past Saturday, The Ultimate Fighter® concluded its run on SPIKE TV as 2.5 million viewers tuned in to watch the season 14 finale headlined by Michael Bisping battling Jason “Mayhem” Miller in a middleweight contest. The event was the highest rated and most watched TUF Finale since TUF 10 in 2009, and was the No. 1 program on cable among M18-49 and M18-34 (No. 2 in A18-49). In addition, season 14 was up +121 percent with A18-34 compared to the previous season. The strong ratings prove that the show has tremendous momentum heading into its highly anticipated arrival on FX.

“We’re producing ground-breaking television with The Ultimate Fighter LIVE and we can’t wait to kick this season off with FX in March,” UFC President Dana White said. “It’s going to be can’t-miss TV. Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber are two incredible personalities who also happen to be two of the best fighters in the world. They genuinely dislike each other and I expect this to make for the best season yet.”

“We believe that Dana and Lorenzo (Fertitta), along with Executive Producer Craig Piligian, have come up with exciting new changes to the format of The Ultimate Fighter that will expand and grow the series,” said Chuck Saftler, Executive Vice President, FX Networks. “The fact that the fights at the end of each episode will now be televised live is certain to create a sense of urgency for UFC fans. Furthermore, the move of TUF to Friday nights will provide a great ratings boost to the network.”

The rivalry between coaches Cruz and Faber dates back to March 2007, when Faber handed Cruz his first and only professional loss in a 145-pound bout. The 26-year-old Cruz avenged that loss this past July, defeating Faber by unanimous decision to retain the bantamweight crown in a Fight of the Year candidate. With the series now even, Cruz and Faber look to settle the score as TUF coaches, followed by a title fight in mid-2012 inside the Octagon®.

Undefeated at 9-0 since dropping to bantamweight in 2008, San Diego’s Cruz (19-1) has surged to the top of the division thanks to unorthodox striking, tremendous cardio, and aggressive wrestling. Owner of wins over the likes of Faber, Demetrious Johnson, Scott Jorgensen, Joseph Benavidez (twice), and Brian Bowles, “The Dominator” has long sought an opportunity to serve as coach on The Ultimate Fighter®. The chance to coach opposite his longtime rival makes the opportunity that much sweeter.

“Anyone who knows me knows that I’m a gym rat and love learning and teaching mixed martial arts,” Cruz, who trains at Alliance MMA in San Diego, said. “This is a dream come true. To get a chance to coach TUF and beat Faber again is all the motivation I need. This is going to be an insane season of The Ultimate Fighter.”

Sacramento’s Faber cemented his place as a pioneer in the lighter weight divisions after holding the WEC featherweight title for a span of over two years from 2006-2008. Boasting victories over the likes of Cruz, Jeff Curran and Jens Pulver at 145-pounds, “The California Kid” dropped to his more natural weight class of 135-pounds in November 2010 in search of his second world title. He’s since been on a tear, most recently submitting former champion Bowles at UFC® 139.

Now, the 32-year-old turns his attention to another one of his passions – coaching.

“I can’t wait to be the next coach on The Ultimate Fighter,” Faber, whose gym in Sacramento has helped produce UFC stars Benavidez, Chad Mendes and Danny Castillo, said. “I am looking forward to mentoring a bunch of hungry and talented fighters. The new cast needs to be ready to work hard and learn! Having Dominick coach on the opposite side couldn’t be more perfect. I’m not too thrilled about being in each other’s space for an extended period of time, as I am sure we are going to get on each other’s nerves. But I can’t wait to mentally beat him up as a coach, and then literally beat him up in the cage and swipe that UFC strap.”

I watched loads of these bantamweight fights on Xtreme Sports (I think) when they showed the WEC for a few months. Really exciting action awaits!
