The MMA thread

What time does it start? The listing claims 1am GMT. If so what time does the prelim starts?

The prelims start in an hour and a half, the clocks go back tonight so the 1am time is in 4 and a half hours, not 3 and a half.

Should be some cracking fights tonight. Looking forward to it.

TUF is quite a larf. Bisping is really not coming across very well is he? I pissed myself when he had that row with the baldy on Millers team and then went "ooh, watch out - tough guys here" when the guy walked out the changing room. His stupid bemused face

Not a great card but gonna stay up to watch. Our extra hour will make it easier tomorrow, Dunno who Hioki, Jorgensen or Curran are so predictions are guesses

Predictions

Featherweight bout: Hatsu Hioki vs. George Roop
Bantamweight bout: Scott Jorgensen vs. Jeff Curran
Heavyweight bout: Mirko Filipović vs. Roy Nelson (will be Cro Cops final match in UFC, and what a horrible way to go out. Beaten by a fatty)
Heavyweight bout: Cheick Kongo vs. Matt Mitrione
Welterweight bout BJ Penn vs. Nick Diaz

somebody is fecking around with the UFC 137 wiki page. It had the 1st fight already done, and the winner via ball lock and it has Matt Mitrione hailing from India

By the way Donald Cerrone beat Siver that could make him No 1 contender for Edgar's belt

A couple more fights for Cerrone to be No. 1 imo. Pettis and Henderson are still above him in the rankings imo.
Cerrone is a beast, he really put on a clinic v. Siver. I parlay'd Kongo, BJ and Nelson. Hope it comes through but i'm starting to have doubts that BJ won't be up for it.

Credit to BJ for hanging in there, but Diaz completely dominated him. Happy with that, hopefully now we'll get the real fight back on with St Piere

Pretty sure thats the orbital. I was taken aback by BJs decision but its hardly out of the blue. He hasn't been the same since Edgar. Clearly his hearts no longer in it. Horrified at the Crocop fight also. I'm a big fan of his, and was really rooting for him to go out with a bang, but once again he showed his hungers also gone. Overall an ok card with lots of bad news.

I think BJ just realised he can probably beat all the other welterweights, but he's just lost to Diaz and lost to St Pierre convincingly. Those are the only two fights which would mean anything to him now and he's been dominated in both, so time to call it quits I guess

Thats what I thought too. It's similar to Florian's situation. He's too old to have to start from scratch. And BJ doesn't strike me as someone that settles as a gatekeeper. He fights for the gold, and if he can't have it then he won't continue. Edgar has his number, and the rest of the LW division is pretty much stacked at the moment. 2 weight classes with nothing for him.

Did you have money on it?

BJ broke his hand 30s into the second round. Unfortunate after winning the first, would have made the fight possibly one of the greatest of all time.

Diaz is an animal. He just stays in the pocket and throws down. You have to respect the style even if you don't respect the man.

Did anyone hear the presser after? Dana quoted GSP saying that he thinks Diaz is the most disrespectful human being he's ever met and that he wanted to hand him the worst beating he's ever had.

No way he stands and trades with him though.

Quite fecking brilliant from Diaz. And speaking of quite fecking brilliant, here's a long interview with him that offers a great insight into his mind.

should be a fantastic fight, i'm very interested to see how it would play out. i think gsp would try to use the same tactics as he did against bj cos diaz has similar skills - jujitsu and boxing. I think it'd be harder to do it against diaz though.

Diaz won't be able to stop the takedown unfortunately.

GSP 5 round decision.

he's gonna have to take him down a lot i reckon cos diaz will be in his face the whole fight, he won't be standing back letting gsp jab from range

Can't put my finger on why, especially as GSP's fights in recent years have been as dull as dishwater but I fancy him to smash Diaz big time. 2nd round KO i think!

Diaz performance against BJ was very good but I just can't see him avoiding GSP's take down.

We'll find out in Feb I guess!

Lots of fighters talk about knocking their opponents out and it turns out to be hot air. I see GSP's comments as pre-fight hype. He'll lay 'n' pray as per usual.

Of course he will. He fights smart ever since the Serra fight and will not put himself at risk unnecessarily.

GSP is probably the better all round striker of the 2 but no way he wants to throw hands with a guy like that who isn't afraid to get hit.

Diaz's weakness has always been wrestlers. He'll be active on the ground but GSP should be able to neutralise anything Diaz tries there.

I really hope I'm wrong though.

Im surprised Leben did not continue. Annoyed too. I though he had more fight in him - His cut wasnt that bad and once the cut was cleaned he looked fine to go on.

We have seen far worse above eye cuts than that
