The MMA thread

If anyone has a river for the final fight I'd hate to know about it because it's wrong and all that.

Get the feck in free Setanta sports for this fight. for some reason I didnt think it was going to un lock

That was kind of shit really. It didn't even look like Cain took a proper punch. I'm surprised he was finished so easily. Anti-climax.

Looked like he almost caught him round the back of the head. It was a bit of an anti climax I agree but Valesquez bizarrely looked a bit scared before they touched gloves.

Pleased for JDS though. He seems a really genuine guy and was long overdue a title shot so fair play to him.

If Ubereem beats Brock that'll be a short and explosive fight too.

People need to wise up to the UFC. The HW division is 100% hype. They were hyping Cain as the best heavy weight ever, as a p4p contender. On 9 fights. One of those fights he was nearly knocked out 2 or 3 times by a Gatekeeper.

Dos Santos is no different. He is a one dimensional fighter that doesn't like to be pressured in the stand up. Crocop gave him all he could handle until he managed to stop Crocop.

Looking at the Heavy Weight roster right now.

Cain - Solid wrestling, shitty striking, suspect chin, amazing cardio.
Brock - Solid wrestling, zero cardio, terrible striking, punch shy.
Carwin - Solid TDD, zero cardio, lack of technical striking with one punch KO power.
JDS - Good technical striker, moderate power, unknown ground game.
Ubereem Good striker, big power, good JJ game, suspect TDD, suspect cardio, no heart.

Ubereem should be the number 1 guy here, but his lack of heart kills him. This is a revolving door division, each guy here can win vs some and will lose versus others.

It will be interesting to see if any of these guys can develop into well rounded top class heavy weights like Fedor and BigNog were before their declines.

Incidentally, I still think Fedor would be competitive in the UFC HW division. The only HW out there right now that I think Fedor almost NEVER beats is Bigfoot. His losses to Hendo and Werdum were on the back of mistakes he made.

With Werdum he thought he hurt him and jumped into a triangle over confident. With Hendo he hurt him jumped on him aggressively to finish and was unable to keep top position, Hendo to his credit transitioned quickly and landed a monster uppercut from behind.

I would favor Fedor over JDS, Carwin and Cain. With Brock it would depend on who got off first. If Brock can secure a take down he would probably force a second or third round stoppage, but if Fedor got off first Brock would turtle up and get TKO'd in the first round. Ubereem is a tough call because he is the most rounded guy in that bunch but Ubereem only pushes for so long before he literally breaks down and gives up.

Presently I don't think any of these guys really have the skill set or experience to take advantage of the kind of mistakes Fedor has made in two of his three losses. Regardless of what his performances of late have been, the guy is still extremely dangerous to anyone that doesn't have a skull the size of Bigfoots. He is still explosive, still has big power and is still completely reckless in his aggression.

Even if he isn't the number one guy anymore, he is still consistently the most entertaining guy in MMA period.

Really looking forward to tonights card.

Rua/Hendo could be a war, don't expect it to go the full way. I see Rua taking out Hendo by TKO. Wouldn't surprise me if Hendo gets a one punch KO though.

Great to see Lee in the UFC, shame its against Wandy. I like Wandy and don't want to see him get smashed in the 1st again.

Hendo has ultimate belief in his chin and his right hand. His KO over Fedor will only bolster this.

This belief has in my opinion made him a less effective fighter. He could probably get a fairly certain decision victory if he stuck to taking Shogun down and working top control and GnP.

The most likely outcome however is Hendo banging it out with Shogun and bar a winging right hand he should be beaten handily by a healthy Shogun standing.

I have been thinking about this over the last couple of days, he has a pretty solid chin for 41 almost Fujita esq. If he does use his superior wrestling on Shogun he could lay on top of him for 3 rounds and get some gnp in but nothing to finish Rua. Your right about his confidence in his chin, he will probably stand and bang with Shogun, however I can see Rua's speed outclassing him though.

Same here. I'm really excited too. A lot of potentially very good fights.

Speechless after that. The greatest fight of all time, griffin vs bonnar or chuck vs wand doesn't touch it. To be honest, how anyone could score that as anything other than a draw is beyond me. If that last round isn't a 10-8, then I don't know what is. When you consider that the first round of *** vs mir was a 10/8 all across the board, aswell as round 3 of bj vs fitch. Craziness. I almost hope theres not a second fight, because it could never be better than that

I watched the match 2 times in a row and still am awestruck by the sheer awesomeness of Shogun and Dan. Up there with the CLASSICS.

am suprised shogun didnt use his leg kicks - he could have disguised them by throwing a couple of punches first to avoid getting taken down from them, and seeing as he seemed to want to get the fight to the ground anyway it was weird he didnt try them

Shogun said he was gonna stand and box with hendo. Hendo is a great wrestler so kicks would've let him taken him down.

Agree with Don16 that I scored the fight a draw too. Buffer for some reason said unanimous 28-27 though :wenger:

I am fairly sure the reason that it was scored a draw was that both had 10-8 rounds. But considering Shogun had mount on at least six separate occasions in the last round, punching all through the round, and Hendo did literally nothing, shouldn't that perhaps be a 10-7? If that's not a 10-7, then a 10-7 doesn't exist.

Edit: Apparently the score was 48-47, which means... there were no 10-8 rounds. What?! This should be a scandal, but now everyone will only talk about how great a fight it was. If that last round isn't even a 10-8.. I can't even consider that possibility, it's so ridiculous.
