The MMA thread

Early UFC was a circus. Basically Royce Gracie beating up on a bunch of people who didn't belong in any kind of competition, let alone a fighting competition.

Yeah, all that and sumo wrestlers getting the head kicked off them.

Remember the bloke who wore a single boxing glove? What the hell was he thinking?

 Art Jimmerson.

It was a circus alright...but hilariously entertaining and violent.

Ninjitsu!! vs Pit Fighting!!

Sumo!! vs Muay Thai!!

I must admit, i've only been a big UFC fan for the last 2 years but like Pogue was initially put off by the shear ferocity of the sport. I couldn't believe this kind of fighting was legal even with the modern format with gloves and amount of protection fighters actually get. I mean boxing is boxing, but UFC with the cage, is quite something. You'd expect to see it in movies not real life.

I think the problem for MMA is hardly anybody knows the fighters outside of the telecasts. I had a mate that was in Sydney at the time, that went up to Nogueira had a short chat and shook his hand and nobody took a second look while he was standing there with him. He 'Nogueira' seemed to be a little shocked that somebody knew or recognised him.

Good stoppage.

Reminds me of this one. The thudding sound of elbow on skull still makes me wince....

The commentators were hilariously clueless.

Frye was awesome. Always up for a scrap.

The debuts of Tank & Belfort will always be standouts for me. I take it that most UFC fans have seen em so I won't post em up here.

I'm assuming this is just the general MMA thread now, yea? If so, can it be renamed?

Guy I know won the welterweight category at the recent takedown grand prix at the velodrome.

Videos for anyone who's interested, he's in the black shorts:

Did well to recover from being rocked, and a good takedown^

Yes it is and no I dont. They just needed an opponent for Silva in Brazil. It will be a piece of piss for him

SHould be a good event though

That was dominant. A typical Anderson Silva performance. Started off slowly and once he got in the swing of things a few minutes in he was methodical. That was more embarassing than Griffin!!

Anderson Silva - that was pretty impressive

Did you see fat Ronaldo in the audience after silva won? he's turned into a right porker
