The MMA thread

Excellent. I need Cruz to win here and i'll cash in a tasty little accumulator. Had Simpson, Njoukouani, Guillard, Condit, Ortiz, Leben and Dominic on it.

How much would you win?

About 320 quid! Well I just had 100quid on faber just now to hedge my bets

Very nice. Didn't make a bet, mainly because I forgot but wouldn't say no to 320. I've always found MMA just risky to bet on, one punch and thats it, but thats what makes it so good.

Cruz surely won that, won on the feet, won on the ground

But with the judges who stole the fight from Wiman earlier... They probably have Bader winning

One judge scored it 50-45? No fecking way. That was a 48-47 for me, could've gone either way as far as I'm concerned. I found Cruz pretty ineffective whereas Faber caught him numerous times when breaking from the clinch, and also knocking him down with a huge punch once.

Unfortunately 2 punches in a 5 round fight arent going to be enough when someone hits you so much and you miss him so much

Just what I was thinking. It's nearly a cousin of LnP, both incorporate lots of movement to make it look like you're busier

Really? You gave Cruz all 5 rounds? I thought Faber took the 2nd and the 4th easily

I'd probably have given him the 4th, but even then I don't think he won the round convincingly enough that the judge had no right to score it the other way.

They were all close rounds, but Cruz was throwing more, landing more, completing more takedowns and in terms of ring generalship (or Octogon control or whatever they call it in MMA) was clearly dictating the majority of the fight imo. I don't like his style at all and I wanted Faber to knock him out, but a few hard punches aside he just wasn't able to do much.

Cracking UFC. Made up for that Haye/Klitschko snooze fest.

I hope to God that Dana White can convince Wanderlei to retire because it's scary how easy he's getting ko'd now. Can you honestly imagine Chris Leben doing that to him in his hey day?

Great UFC.

I was delighted to see Ortiz win. He'll certainly generate a big interest in the LW division.

In relation to the main event, I thought it was Cruz who clearly won. I think he definitely won the 2nd, 3rd and 5th rounds and the other two were open for interpretation. Faber had harder shots, but Cruz got nearly all the takedowns, had most of the Octogon control and got in a lot more shots. It was clear as day in my opinion. I was disappointed with Faber. Every time he moved forward, he looked decent but he backpeddled so much that it handed Cruz the initiative.

In relation to Siver and Wiman, again I think that was clear. Overall, Wiman won the fight, but it was clear to me anyway that Siver won the 1st and 3rd rounds. I knew he'd won the fight. He didn't deserve it, but that's the problem with how the scoring works. One fighter can be the clear winner, but lose two very close rounds and then lose the fight.

I was hoping Silva would do to Leben what Leben did to Silva. Any man who wears nail varnish deserves to be knocked out.

Hey guys,

Looking for some help.

Can anyone direct me to a website/article/source that can illustrate the growth of MMA as a business and the brandsinvolved in MMA worldwide?

Thanks

AJ

I have a book about it, but it targets the evolution of the sport of MMA as opposed to the brands involved. Still there could be something in it that you could find useful. Drop me a PM if you want it.

Tito Ortiz stepping in for Phil Davis to fight Rashad Evans now. Quite happy about this, didn't really give a shite about Davis vs Evans now. Win/win for Tito. If Tito wins, he gets 2 of the biggest wins of his career in the space of 2 months, if he loses then he'll have been beaten by the #1 contender. Very winnable fight for Tito aswell, I think. Rashad hasn't fought for like a year and a half, ring rust is a very real thing.

Wow. Great opportunity for Tito.

You're right about ring rust but it'd be a stretch for him to beat Rashad. I don't see any real area of the game were Rashad isn't better than him.

Still, I hope he wins and gets a title shot. That would be huge for the UFC.

He beat his ass to a technical draw last time.

That was 4 years ago tbf.

He beat Bisping, Liddell & Griffin after that.

I dunno, seeing how he muzzled Rampage so efficiently I just see Tito up against it. His best hope is that Rashad comes in out of shape imo.

Rashad looks up for it though. He's not fecking around. Machida is his kryptonite so he has been out of contention for awhile but I see a title win for him in the near future.

Overeem being cut from the GP then, seems like he was never going to finish the thing. Everyones forgetting that he has only one fight left on his SF contract. Where they hoping he'd renegotiate during the GP? Why tie a man to a tournament that he was never confirmed to be finishing. I reckon they'll have him face Fedor in October, as he seems very insistent on fighting in October. Fedor will have plenty of rest after the Hendo fight, and I'm sure they'll want one last big fight out of Alistair before he inevitably moves onto the UFC.

Rumors i've heard about Horsemeateem is that he is being lined up for winner of JDS/Cain.

Could Velasquez do it on a cold night at stoke?

Ironically enough however, the lead actor of MMA movie Never Back down, would be a ring in for Ronaldo.

Delighted to see Walker win too. He's probably not going to do much beyond the odd novelty bout against Lashley, Batista etc, but what an athlete. Have you seen a heavyweight called Daniel Cormier yet? Former Olympic level wrestler with impressive striking too. Works in some surprisingly good uppercuts and hooks for a wrestler who's new to the sport Could be a threat at heavyweight before long, although he's on the short side for a heavyweight. Looks like he's carrying quite a bit of body fat too, but when you compare a Fedor's gas tank to a Carwin's its pretty clear that being leaner doesn't always correlate with being better conditioned.

Didn't expect Cormier to get thrown into the deep end this quickly. Bigfoot is a horrible fight for him on paper but he was impressive again against Monson and I think he could score the upset. If he gets past Bigfoot he's got a great chance against either Barnett or Kharitinov.

Fedor v Hendo this weekend then.

Would really like to see Fedor come back and take this after 2 losses in a row but I can see Hendo landing the H Bomb at some point.

Should be a great fight though.

Video of Fedor at the open media workouts: Fedor Emelianenko Media Workout Video

Journalists who were present said it was the single most eeriest thing they had seen -- 25-30 people in the room and you could hear a pin drop and Fedor went through his routine. The man still has that aura about him.

I don't think this will be competitive. Hendo's only shot is to Bisping Fedor. Fedor is faster, has devastating power in both hands. Has submissions. Is better off his back.

I think Fedor hurts him in the first or second and then RNC's him.
