The MMA thread

Davis should take it, but I think we saw the gaps in his skillset and perhaps it'll take some time yet before he's a real contender.

He is a lot better than he showed tonight, he came in with some injuries and *** has excellent stand-up on both offense and defence. A tough test which Davis did well to come through. His next fight should be very interesting.

The problem I see is this. There is a reason why when you have a super athlete like him, they go into a sport like wrestling and not football. He is relatively uncoordinated in a "ball game" sort of way. That guy could never play football, either brand, basketball or anything that requires a high degree of hand eye, foot eye coordination.

I was laughing when I saw his kicking, I was laughing when I saw his punching. It was unnatural and forced and clumsy. There was no fluidity. It was nothing like the raw natural ability of Jones.

So yes, he is a monster athlete, but I'm pretty sure he hits himself in the eye with chopsticks when he eats chinese.

He has acknowledged that he isn't title shot level yet and that he needs to work on his striking I love people trying to talk down his potential like he should be at Jones' level now. He has fought 5 times in a year and looked comfortable against a top heavyweight.

A fight that he took at short notice.

A prolonged rest and a couple more fights will see him at a good level again, maybe not title shot level but he'll be getting there.

Watching Strikeforce challengers from friday night. Very impressed by Lorenz Larkin, outstanding foot movement and explosiveness. Powerful strikes with hands and feet. Showed a bit of takedown defence but his opponent was a striker in the main so no idea how weak an area that is for him, but he fights at 205 and perhaps he could be a threat to Dan Henderson in the future.

So Strikeforce this weekend....picks?

I don't see any major upsets. Daley certainly has it in him to cause one but I think Diaz is too smart to just leave his chin out there and too well rounded for Daley to handle.

Diaz v Daley
Melendez v Kawajiri
Mousasi v Jardine
Aoki v Beerbohm

Aoki was asked at the strikeforce press conferance if any of his friends and family were affected by the most recent earthquake in Japan, his response was that he hadnt heard from them yet but it doesnt matter to him whether they are safe or not  what an ass.

Gilbert Melendez was an animal on fire. I hope they do as he wants and give him the winner of Edgar and Maynard as this is the perfect example of what we can now see now that strikeforce is under the zuffa umbrella. We can see who the number 1 lightweight in the world is. Melendez can do it

Diaz too, outstanding as he always is. He could pose a very real threat to GSP, way more than Shields and I hope he gets that chance.

Nate Diaz will never be as good as his Bro, he looked shit tonight,.

Predictions

Machida and GSP(by knockout), Brilz and Bocek to win

And the shock of the night to be Hominick!!!

Really would be a shock given the way they're building up Aldo. Hominick has some accurate technical hands, I think he might land. But Aldo is going to be too much for him tonight, especially if he has to take it to the floor

Aldo, Machida, GSP, Brilz, Bocek

Bocek is yet another JJ fighter who can't control on the ground for sheeeeeit.

Easy win for Henderson in the end. Vicous cut on top of Bocek's head too.

Brilz up now. I am gonna guess a 1st or 2nd rnd knockout for him.

Randy looks ready to really push the pace with some WALL'N'STALL!

Missed my only pick I got right :D had to restart. Left kick?

He literally, and I am not shitting you, CRANE STYLE FRONT KICKED HIM IN THE FACE. Hands up and everything.
