Some amazing looking armour in this game

Is that you with the bald head?

The sense of adventure in this game is unbelievable. I love the freedom, so far I've just been roaming around going from place to place discovering new things and I'm not out of Great Plateau yet.

Im loving the difficulty level in this game, much harder than any other main title Zelda game.

I saw an island way out in the middle of the sea when I was on a cliff and decided I'd check it out.

Man, what a blast! As soon as you land one of those Gods speaks to you and gives you a trial that you have to complete the challenges on the island with no gear. So you have to scavenge everything. I only have 4 hearts so most things 1 shot me because you have no armor. I finished 2 and just had to kill the boss.... Had him at about 20%, panicked, got hit and died!

Not sure how long it took me but I'd say it was about an hour and I have to start from scratch now:lol:.

I should probably wait until I have more hearts but I'll be going straight back when I play tonight. So much fun :D.

When I get the game, I'll spend days doing variations of this.

That island is massive, massive fun, one of the best parts of the game so far, the boss takes for fecking ever though!

Not sure if this happens to everyone, but whenever I died on the island, I started off it and had to do the long ass glide back. There should be a save point on it.

It doesn't let me save on the island either. Kind of like that it doesn't, adds to the challenge

Play the game, are you mad?!

No, I want to youtube everything like the kids these days!

On a serious note, this is clearly meant to be played to explore and be creative yourself, I really do pity those that insist on having everything spelled out for them in games. They are missing out on the very thing that makes this most genius.

I was going to buy a Switch to play this but my car decided to die.

I had a go on my brothers and it's brilliant, even just the 10 minutes I spent with it.

Debating on getting the Wii U version.

I agree with you both. Just with lacking having the game to play, I'm just looking at various stuff to get my Zelda 'fix'

Yeah man, that in no way was directed at you! It's the types who either won't play it, or do but with everything spoiled for them only to then declare a game 'ok'.

Then again, I guess whatever makes people happy. On the other side of the coin, there's no doubt plenty of cool shit to discover that I'll miss. I know it sounds old, but that's the main thing I miss about pre-internet spoiler days, is that you genuinely were rewarded by your own efforts. But I really do appreciate the side of people banding together and showing what they've discovered. It's that paradox that makes this so highly regarded, it caters for all and it's hard to explain how.

This game is every bit as great as it looks, more so. I'm still not sure I'd have it above Oot myself, not sure at all, but it's certainly incredibly well done and brings a whole new level to the genre. I really hope you get to play it soon mate! You'll love it.

Thanks. I'm sure I will.

Yeah, I know what you mean with the pre-internet spoiler days. Internet has been around most of my life but still remember the time before I got my first computer and had stuff spoiled inadvertently. Some people get a weird pleasure out of spoiling stuff for others.

When I play the game itself, I'll be the type who goes all over exploring stuff and ignoring the main quest line. This looks like the type of game where there'll be so much hidden shit that nobody will find everything but I'll sure as hell try.

There's an interesting parallel with pre-net games, like when the original Zelda was made, part of the idea was for so many secrets and no handholding that you were encouraged to discuss the game with mates as you made your way through.

I guess today, online is an extension of that, but the issue comes in that with a pool of hundreds of thousands if not more, everything gets shredded in no time flat. I mean, I've played the thing near religiously since noon of the day it was out, and I'm still nowhere compared to the info that's already out.

And that's the best way in my opinion. I appreciate others love to learn from other gamers and play that way, In the Dark Souls series that's even an encouraged way to do it, but for me it's all about the learning by doing. Maybe that's why I never really fully clicked with Witcher 3, it was just all so obvious and led to me.

Me either. I'm happy that way.

Sure, I'll look online when I'm done to see all the cool stuff I'll no doubt miss, but I'm pretty sure I've figured plenty out already just by doing.

For example, that seesaw gif @Damien posted earlier, I've done that on a rock, but I also lit a fire on the grass nearby for a double boost and took out a whole camp of bokoblins with my bow before I even touched the floor. In fact I don't think I've done the same tactic twice on any camp.

All this before I hit the first village and discovered I could level up and buy new armour

Absolutely, I've been very happy to dig around myself and do what I like. I could have been further in the game, but I decided to roam the map and do all the towers and as many shrines as I could early on. It's quite rewarding when you decide to do something a bit daft for the hell of it, and end up rewarded with a badass sword or something.

That's yet another impressive feature isn't it? The fact you are actually rewarded for exploring every nook and cranny.

There really has been nothing like it on this scale.

Ffs guys I'm trying really hard to not whack this on my credit card and you aren't helping.

Was @Bill.s.preston who posted that by the way.

And on this very page too!

In my defence, I'm cooking dinner and all that's on my mind is playing this. It's been a looooong time since a game has held my attention solely like this.

Now for some negativity. The weapon degrading system sucks. It just sucks. I'm not really a fan of that kind of system anyway, but at least give us a scale! Sure you ALWAYS find a newer and better weapon, but ploughing through an entire new sword in one battle then being left empty handed is just annoying and a flaw.

Also, the motion controls. They work fine in controller mode, they work excellent in joycon mode, but why doesn't the calibration switch in handheld mode? The motion works as a single controller stuck to a tab, so that means you are actually trying some ridiculous twists whilst losing sight of the screen.

Also, not being able to change the control setup sucks balls.

They could degrade a bit slower, true, especially the steel weapons.

My biggest annoyance is the gyroscope puzzles, but it's not Switch or BOTW specific, just hate them in most things.

You can turn off motion controls on wii u. I think i'd have cried if i couldn't, took me about 2 games of splatoon to learn to hate them motion controls.
I find the weapon degradation thing ok once you start getting passable weapons. The early ones do break annoyingly often

Anyway
The more i play it, the more i like it.
Everyone should just buy it now, feck self control

You can turn off motion controls on the Switch too, but some puzzles still require them.

My pro controller arrived today. It's good

Also my joy con charger which I probably won't need and a 64gb sd card which I also most likely will not need. Screen protector and case too. I'm a sucker for buying accessories

Edit: almost forgot, I got the nes mini today too

Stop buying shit Randall. Stop it

How essential is this or do you think the joy cond just about manageable ?

The joycons are actually very useable. I like playing with them seperately, pretty much like Wiimotes, it makes aiming a lot more fluid.

Splatoon is sooooo much better once you master them!
