The F1 Thread 2014 Season

Hmm, Button might luck out from that safety car. What is it with Williams' and that wall?

Decent race so far. My fantasy team is shot though. Had Hamilton and Vettle and neither last more than a couple of laps :(

On the bright side Riccardo doing well, though can't see anyone getting near Rosberg unless something goes wrong with his car. Bottas has looked decent as well bar the wall touch

Kimi's not having a good time of it.

Aside from a racy first handful of laps, which was seemingly due to massive variance in pace, this has been a bit dull to be honest.

Still don't like the engine sound, it just isn't F1 as far as I'm concerned. We shouldn't be able to hear tyre squeal ffs, this isn't karting.

I was just thinking the same, after the first few laps it is a bit of a bore, still enjoying it.
The teams are still on a massive learning curve.
Good to see the teams/drivers you thought would struggle doing pretty well

It's not that bad, 1st place is decided but 2nd to 4th is still uncertain.

Red Bull look very competitive despite all their problems, I don't think Mercedes will get things all their own way.

Very good opening race of the season, despite what I thought was a dull middle part.
Merc was expected to win the race but I put my money on Lewis.
Cracking drive for Magnussen and Riccardo.
Looking like this season could be one of the best, if the teams can get all their cars running right.

Not the most exciting race but then I think that was more of a survive rather than push, we lost out a fight at the front as soon as Hamilton's car started on 5 cylinders. I mean as if there was ever any doubt if a Merc would break down it would be Lewis, "Get's the best car.......5 cylinders".

So yeah I think the racing will only get better as the pack get developing, great to see Danny get a podium and Magnussen was excellent.

Reminds me a fair bit of the 2007 opener as a McLaren fan - coming off a crap season, the rookie got a podium and was right up there with a world champion, and the car that won was a league apart. Now we just need something to get banned on the Merc and we're set. Hopefully it doesn't finish like that particular season.

I'd love Kimi to win it in the final race again

Great to see Riccardo get second in the end. Hopefully he can keep getting results. I would love to see him finish above vettle at the end of the year

I'm guessing come the next race a Rosberg and co will again be the team to beat, but with the other big teams slowly coming to grips with there own cars and closing the gap.

Ricardio has been disqualified per Brundle on Twitter

Gutting for him if true, but if the car was going faster because of the fuel rate then hard to argue against it. Wonder if it's a Renault issue or something Red Bull themselves should've been on top of.

Got to suck for the lad if he is. Even worse for it to happen in front of his home crowd and the fact that he himself did nothing wrong. Can't really argue it at all though.

This is the part of F1 I really hate. The race is over, the trophies have been awarded, champagne has been spilled, and now the results could change. I know they have to examine the cars and if anyone broke the rules there's nothing else they can do, but it's still so awkward.

If that's true it'll have been the most exciting thing to have happened in the race. The opening few laps were interesting, but mainly just for Kobicrashi trying to take out as many people as he could but only actually succeeding in getting Massa, and then Hamilton and Vettel's cars promptly breaking. Other than that it just sort of... petered out.

Is fuel saving going to be the new tyre saving? We lost an exciting finish with Magnusson having to back right off in the last few laps to save fuel. I hope not. I'm confident that it's just because the huge rules changes as regards fuel limits have meant the teams aren't quite on top of things yet, but given that the engines are no longer allowed to change, if it turns out they're simply too thirsty for the fuel limit then we might be in for a bit of a disappointing set of races.

It was an alright opener. Nothing wrong with it, and such massive differentials in speed are unsurprising given the huge changes so far. It'll take a few races but the field will even up considerably by the time the European races roll around, I'm sure.

It'll be funny if the Red Bull comes good in the second half of the season and Vettel wins the championship in the final race, curtesy of the double points on offer.

This is the second most fuel-thirsty race according to the commentary (after Montreal), so hopefully today was on the extreme end even though it was aided by the extra formation lap and safety car.

So Kobayashi escapes punishment for being a complete fecking moron and just steaming into everyone at the first corner. Can't see the difference between what he did and what Grosjean did (and earnt a race ban for) to be honest. But maybe in Grosjean's case it was because that was far from his first offence.
