The F1 Thread 2014 Season

Easy win for Hamilton in the end and well deserved.

Next season will hopefully be more competitive but I think it will take until the season after. By then Ferrari & McLaren should have stability and sorted their car out. Honda will have caught up and as rumours state VW / Audi will enter the mix and may even team up with Red Bull (they already have experience in these engines). That will leave a strong selection of front running teams (budgets wise) in Mercedes, Red Bull, Ferrari, McLaren, Williams as well as a selection of top quality drivers in Alonso, Vettel, Hamilton, Rosberg, Ricciardo, Bottas. I know it doesn't work like that and often 1 or 2 reach a higher level but I think there will be more balance and competitiveness.
 
I'll predict that Bottas will be Hamilton's main challenger next season. I can see Rosberg losing a bit of confidence in himself whilst Williams build on this season to bring in more sponsors and close the development gap. Next season will come too soon for the other engine manufacturers. I have no faith in Mclaren to be competent.
 
Well Done to erccrtmn for winning the Fantasy League this season and finishing 71st out of the whole thing, fantastic.
The ones hat went for only one Merc , were always struggling this season.
Roll on next seasons league, thats if it happens.

Well, that really is all folks. After 14 years it is time to call time on the Fantasy F1 competition. It's been a very difficult decision for me but it has been made clear that it is not possible to run a competition based (albeit loosely) on the F1 championship without paying huge licensing costs or facing closure and/or legal challenges. So I would like to just thank those of you that have played and enjoyed the competition over the years. It's been a great journey and I have appreciated your support.

Pleased for Hamilton. I've wanted him to get that second world title for a while now, because him only having one would be a disservice to his talents as a driver. Nice to see Rosberg gracious in defeat, after not always coming across the best this year. Bit of a non-event final race though overall. Also as an aside, it will be a massive shame if that was Button's last race. From a pure racing point of view, it makes no sense for McClaren to drop him.

Ah shame. Guess, a new fantasy league next year.
 
After a quick google search, there doesn't seem to be a shortage of free fantasy f1 games. Whether they're all still there next year is another matter, but I'm sure that someone will create a game that you can play without paying.

Time will tell, the one we was using I think is one of the longest ones doing it, hopefully I can find another one for next season.
 
Best driver of the two won it. What will it take to have a championship where the best driver of 4,6, 8 or 10 wins it with real competition from Merc, red bill, Mclaren, Ferrari and Williams.

Ferrari were so dominant they generally didn't bother using their new car until about June. They would use the previous seasons car until about Barcelona. They weren't all boring seasons. 2000 was still the exciting battle between Häkkinen and Schumacher. And 2003 was an overall brilliant season with an amazing last race deciding the championship between Kimi and Michael, several different teams and many drivers won races that year and Alonso became the youngest driver to win a race.

I don't think many viewers were bored in 2001 when Schumacher had his first dominant season after years of great battles with weaker cars than his opponents, it was only in 2002 that everyone got worried it might become boring, but 2003 instantly delivered a exciting season again. I get that by 2004 most fans were bored with Schumacher running away with the title, but saying that 2000-2004 was unbearable is wrong. The whole "Schumacher moves to Ferarri, helps develop the car and gets Ferrari back to the top, misses out on the title through injury and then finally wins it and turns Ferrari into a dominant team again" - story was brilliant to follow. Looking back in hindsight and saying everything was predictable and boring in Schumacher's 5 consecutive title wins doesn't do justice to that story at all.
 
When you condense it into a few retrospective sentences it's alright, actually watching it every other week at the time though was mind-numbing.
 
Also, Balu is German. Of course he thought the Schumacher years were interesting. I suspect he found the Vettel years entertaining, too!

I don't like Vettel, don't really care about him. I've also never said that the Schumacher years were interesting throughout. The 2000 and 2003 seasons were fantastic though and in no way boring. In 2003 with 3 races to go Schumacher, Montoya and Kimi were within 2 points. It was a fantastic year with many surprising winners and 3 different cars competing for the title. If Kimi won it, it would have gone down as one of the most entertaining seasons of the decade. But because Schumacher won it (by 2 points) it seems to be remembered as just another boring season within Schumacher's dominance. Like I said, I understand that people were bored in 2002 and 2004, that's fair enough. But I can't understand how someone can say it was unbearable to watch throughout those 5 years.

Was just wondering about this league. 10th place isn't bad considering I didn't change any of my drivers or predicted any of the bonus point options since the 2nd or 3rd race. Erccrtmm winning the league and finishing 71st overall is pretty decent, also wins the award for worst team name, closely followed by Neeeeeow.
