The F1 Thread 2012 Season

I'm watching it on Facebook, I figure thats probably less likely to go down.

Praise Jebus that it doesn't have that horrific nose the Caterham has.

Probably my favourite looking McLaren since 05 in fact, fingers crossed testing doesn't balls up like last year.

Exhaust (if they are the real deal) look different, would be interesting to see what, if any, performance difference it offers. The rake on this is much like the RBR of last year, seems a different approach for McLaren. I doubt that front wing will be the one we see in Australia.

No doubt the hype will outweigh the performance though, that's just the typical thing for a McLaren car.

Looking forward to seeing the others next week now.

Ugliest season ever.

'Cept the McLaren of course

A face only a mother could love, but the rest of the car looks fantastic.

Front pull rod...very interesting with such a high nose.

That bump in the nose makes the Ferrari look ugly but the McLaren looks brilliant.

Considering how F1 designers like the cars to be all streamlined and aerodynamic I am at a loss as to what the feck they have done to the front of that Ferrari

It's because of the new nose regulations that limit the front of the nose to a height of 55cm's. McLaren are ok because their whole aero philosophy is based around a lower nose than most of the other teams, hence they avoided the step. It's just a compromise really.

I hope McLaren win loads of races, these new noses are terrible. I'd rather look at Steve Bruce's nose.

Yup, and according to this pic (linking due to size) - http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/7175/f1noses.jpg - McLaren might be the only ones that can get away with it.

Ah I remember hearing something about this now, I always thought that they would curve the nose downwards or something or find a way to do it that didnt involve putting a big dent in the thing, of course with massa behind the wheel there will be plenty of dents in it anyway that is of course if he manages to keep up with the rest of the grid.

Massa:lol:

Not so bad nose. The logo placement on that car is quite annoying though, oversized and badly positioned.

Sauber has been unveiled today, just under an hour until the red bull is shown now

A short little low light clip for a launch, that is poor stuff for a Championship winning team, I mean F1 should be super accessible to fans by this point, McLaren had basically a 2 hour launch with Q&A with all the key men, Ferrari would have done the same if the weather had held up.

Looks much like the RB7 just with the new nose though so in theory its still the car to beat.

Sauber really need to get their shit together on the livery front.

Not that simple, it depends on how they have dealt with the loss of the exhaust.

Of course but its been the best car running for arguably 3 seasons now so its still the favorite on paper before it hits the track. Interesting comments on the exhaust changes from Newey though, basically saying they will have to run the car lower at the rear than before.

McLaren wins the looks contest by a landslide by not having that awful nose, albeit I think its a great looking car in its own right.

Aerodynamic downforce was the clear factor in the dominance of the Red Bull wasn't it? The Mclaren was better on the mechanical level? It will be interesting to see how both of them shape up against each other.

Yep its widely agreed that the Red Bull is the best aero car but Ferrari & McLaren are both stronger mechanically. The loss of the EBD changes the outlook somewhat and I'm not going to look at Silverstone 2011 results as an indicator to who might fare better because of it.

Testing starts tomorrow so it starts to give little indicators but really until Qualifying at Round 1 we are all just guessing. I just hope we see atleast 3 teams that are relatively close at the front on pace so we can have a spectacle this season rather than a 1 horse race with the rest trying to keep up.

The McLaren seemed to have the more powerful blown exhaust and tended to do better on the mechanical grip side, yes. Button's said that in the simulator it's improved on the high downforce, high speed corner side of things but we'll have to wait and see if that translates on to the track. The Red Bull's aero should remain very strong unless they've changed something and fecked up.

But yeah, most of these cars should be put out of their misery and shot.

In related news, Red Bull's crooked nose has incorporated some kind of duct into it.

Might not be one on closer inspection, but it looks odd at any rate.

The only good looking car out there at the moment is the McLaren. These new noses on the other ones have ruined the beauty of an F1 car
