The F1 Thread 2012 Season

6 champions on the grid next season and hopefully all of them in competitive cars, can only be good news.

If Kubica gets back to his old form (big if) once he returns, Renault could have arguably the best driver line up on the grid. Still think Kimi should be in a Red Bull though. Renault will need to get a great car to do those two justice anyway

Kimi is going to need time to get back into his groove, a year in the Lotus could set him up for a move to replace Webber if he does well, who knows.

Would be interesting seeing kimi move to red bull with vettel, I get the impression that red bull despite whatever they may say are a team who like Ferrari give one driver full backing in the team. Webber has and will continue to play second fiddle to vettel like massa does to Alonso but seeing kimi move to RBR would be interesting to see how he would adapt into that team

I reckon his career is over. He'd need a comeback of Hakkinen proportions but even then Mika had a fair bit of luck going in his favour.

Red Bull wouldn't look at Raikonnen, they'll put one of their young drivers in there when Webber goes.

It says alot when Renault dropped as good a driver as Kubica, you don't make those decisions without knowing the facts. I really hope Kubica makes it back but I think its fair to say he wouldn't be the old Kubica for atleast a season or two.

Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone says Europe will likely be left with only five Grand Prixs in the coming years as the sport moves into other places around the world. The 81-year-old Ecclestone said in an interview in Marca newspaper that "Europe is a good place for tourism and not much else. Europe is finished."

How about instead of fecking off great tracks like the A1 ring in Austria, and brining in borathons in Spain, you keep the old tracks that had charm about them. If European events consisted of Silverstone, Monza, Spa, Monaco and Valencia, most would be pretty pleased. Spa is close enough to satisfy the Germans.

Valencia? Seriously? I'd swap that for the Nurburgring or Hockenheim, Valencia is terrible.

Why does Spain have to have one but Germany doesn't? I'd say Barcelona is a better track to watch a race at than Valencia, too.

At the end of the day, both countries should have races, so feck off Bernie.

still 9 seats available at the moment according to that list? hope rubens ends up in one of them

Hmm, I read that de la Rosa had got an HRT seat, but I've updated the OP with the confirmed seats as per the FIA release anyway.

Definitely hope Rubens gets a drive, Vijay Malia should be on the phone to him.

Sky have named Brundle, Croft, Davidson and Kravitz as part of the F1 team.

That's an excellent lineup. Anthony and Croft especially have been brilliant on fivelive. Glad to see them get a bigger stage.

a few changes have been announced

Confirmation of the requirement for exhausts to exit out of the upper rear bodywork "in order to ensure that the aerodynamic effect exhaust gases have on the car is kept to an absolute minimum" - a ban on the downforce-boosting technology known as "exhaust-blown diffusers" which has dominated development in the last two seasons
The re-introduction of one three-day in-season test
A reduction in the maximum race time, in the event of a grand prix being suspended after the start, to four hours from eight. The maximum racing time is still two hours.
A change to the safety-car rules which will allow all lapped cars to un-lap themselves before a re-start
Taking shortcuts during practice or qualifying, for example to save fuel, has been banned

He drove for Renault in '09, don't remember him a great deal but he wasn't particularly good that's for sure. Could have improved since though.

I keep seeing adverts for the Sky F1 channel, I hope to feck it's going to be on VM.

As much as I disagree with the idea of F1 being on anything other than terrestrial TV the coverage looks like it's going to be amazing.

Toro Rosso

I must also thank Sebastien Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari for all their hard work over the past three seasons. They have delivered some excellent performances which have helped the team move forward and develop. We wish them well for the future. However, one has to remember that when Scuderia Toro Rosso was established in 2005, it was done so with the intention of providing a first step into Formula 1 for the youngsters in the Red Bull Junior Driver programme. It is therefore part of the team’s culture to change its driver line-up from time to time in order to achieve this goal.

Vergne and Ricciardo are the new pairing.

Buemi or Alguersuari as test driver for Red Bull this year? Then moving into Webbers seat in 2013?

looks like it will be and it should be at no extra charge.

Virgin Media High Definition & TiVo Services: More on the Sky F1 channel and Virgin Media

just found this too . from the Daily Mail

Sky Sports are set to run a dedicated Formula One channel next season which will be available to Freeview customers for a monthly fee.
In a move aimed at appeasing frustrated British F1 fans following the unprecedented switch from terrestrial to pay-TV, I’m told that Sky will operate the package at a cost thought to be around £10-a-month.
The new channel will be included free of charge in Sky and Virgin Media packages. The new channel is set to run for three days over the course of a race weekend. The service will include live coverage of all three practice sessions as well as qualifying and the race – and it will also host an F1 legends programme.

Only Williams and HRT left to confirm their second drivers now.

Won't be long til the first of the cars are unveiled in Jan :D
