The F1 Thread 2012 Season

Senna is half decent potentially but he's a pay driver too. Bruno & Maldonado is probably the weakest Williams lineup in history on paper, they could both prove us wrong but I can't see it.

I think Senna has potential, and I don't have any issue with giving him a shot, but put him in alongside someone experienced. Maldonado is just crap.

Yes but a team like Williams shouldn't have to rely on pay drivers to keep them going, its a crying shame they have fell so far down the order mainly because of BMW pulling the plug on them.

I agree completely, but they are where they are. Resorting to nostalgia and history isn't going to see a team sat there in a year's time, they have to do this in order to survive as a team.

I saw Coulthard doing a live interview at Sunday's Birmingham NEC car show and he was asked about the coverage this season and tried to claim it was better having half the races because it allows them to cut out all the "bollocks" talking at the start and then claimed they had a better presenter team now because they actually understood the technical side better.

Not bitter then

I think Senna has potential, Maldonado is useless the only reason he has that seat is because of sponsorship

Fair comment, but the BMW split started it all and they never got around to dealing with it.

Quite frankly, losing Renault, Damon, Newey and Rothams within 2 years started the Williams decline. They had a slight resurgence with BMW but only in 2003 were they even close to being champions.

You look at their drivers post Damon and Jaques like Schumacher, Frentzen,Montoya and a rookie Button, and you can start to see why the wheels fell off. None of them were anything special. You could also say that Webber, Rosberg and Heidfield continued that trend.

It's basically the who's who of mediocre non pay drivers. It says alot that Rosberg is being matched and beaten at times by a 43 year old m. schumacher. If not for silly DNF's, Michael would have beaten him last year and he's getting further away from his peak years every single day.

The problem for Williams is that they're stuck in the mid table rut. They can't just completely rebuild otherwise they'll go right to the back and lose out on constructors money they desperately need, so they rely on shite pay drivers just to break even. Most teams look to progress but Williams will only fall further down the track.

Didn't realise Caterham were launching this week, great I always love checking out the new cars and laughing at the ITK's who can spot a winner before its turned a wheel.

They release something like that all the time, some of the innovations look interesting though.

I can imagine they will have heavily cut sidepods to redirect lost downforce at the rear with the EBD ban but the crash structure ahead of the actual sidepods looks really wacky and it would be one hell of a package job within the sidepods with that amount of downsizing and coke bottle rear.

I do hope its something new like that though, new is always good.
