The curious case of Jon Moss

He's been awful all game but as all the decisions were going against Arsenal I didn't care, the big one went for them though :(

Fat cnut is basically reacting to the fans.

How many fouls has he given for Arsenal this second half? Every minute there's a foul for them

I can think of at least 4 corner decisions going wrong. A real stinker today by Moss

Such a fat cnut. Shouldn't be allowed to be that fat and referee PL games.

Every 50/50 to Arsenal. Or even 75/25 it’s just a foul against us. Pathetic.

But surely someone is reviewing the refs preformances? They also have fitness goals they need to achieve.

Moss is literally reacting to the crowd, put his whistle in his mouth as the crowd made noise, but didn't blow as they quitened down

I mean surely there are less clueless refs around in England.. He's embarrassedly unfit and prone to bias. Retire .

Fat Cnut is about 40 yards behind play every call

Awful referee, always has been.

He is in disgusting shape for a proffesional referee and he should be nowhere near a football pitch.

Soon as I saw it was Jon Moss I said that makes the game a lottery

Like a Sunday morning referee. Big fat fecker who stands in the centre circle and blows for everything because he can’t see what’s going on

Just look at the state of him. There's no way a man in that shape can cover the field for 90 mins.

Wasn't a foul in there.

So it's obvious he just guessed, ruined the game. Unfit and started looking at his watch after 28 mins

Game ruining decision.

You could feel it coming as well. He'd not given them a few 50 50s and the crowd were getting on him and you got the feeling he'd feel he "owed them one". Sign of a very poor ref to give that.

How does he get about with all that weight?

That would be nice wouldnt it. But in England, the refs are untouchable. Rafa Benitez got a fine for saying the referee did a good job. Mike Dean and Michael Oliver have been ruining games for several years now. You cannot question the refs or you get punished.

Out of shape, out of breath, out of his depth. Old cnut won't be able to handle Sunday league games let alone PL games.

I don’t understand why PL officials don’t get more scrutiny from the press.

I’d love to see a deep dive on the state of officiating. I completely understand that they are human and will make errors, but the complete lack of consistency and not having any accountability is the crazy thing for me. A player has a bad match and everyone is on top of them. A ref has a bad match and very little is said.

I don't think fitness is an issue with the rest of them but Moss obviously is lacking.

Rubbish ref. He's that unfit he struggles to keep up with play and continually finds himself out of position. On several occasions he had to jump over the ball as he was in the wrong place.

Given the above it always feels like he's guessing certain decisions as he's really unsure.

We should train our players to dive, press then make free kicks, kick the ball away, scream at the ref etc. Seems to be the only thing that works. I get that the players feel they wont get away with it, and they wont but at least it will expose the unjust if they try.

John Moss is terrible. Never seen him ref a good game of football. Always unintentionally makes it about him

Lads it technically was a penalty. Is a push in the back a foul? Yes it is. It was a weak push and Lacazette didn't need to go down but he impeded him and his hand shouldn't have been on his back. The ref could have let it go, sure. It finished the game off but from his vantage point he had to give it.

That's because your teams fouling though. Frankly there wasn't enough fouls given because plenty of legit fouls weren't been given today.

Pogba should have had at least a yellow for his closeline move before he got his first yellow. Rashford was late on Xhaka's knee in the first half and didn't get a card. It was a 50-50 but technically that's at least a yellow.

But you know what on the plus side the game flowed and it was a great game today.

I definitely saw it the other way. Moss made some bad calls though. We had 4 offside decisions go against us that shouldn't have been for instance

When was Jon Moss the linesman?

That's just a cliche injected into a discussion about referees to deflect from them. Without checks and balances, people get power hungry and go out of control. It's how law enforcement gets out of hand, and it is an apt comparison. Refs are there to make sure players stay within the rules, but there is no one that makes sure refs stay within the rules (the ref association is a ref mouthpiece, it has no integrity).

Yes you are right, it has been obvious for a long time that he cannot keep up with the play but he passes the 'fitness' test for refs so nothing is done about it.

There was no push in the back. They rubbed their thighs against each other and he fell over. Blatant dive that Salah would be proud of.

Would VAR have made a difference for the penalty, doesn't it have to be clear and obvious error from the ref?

It was a clear and obvious error. John Moss' view was obstructed by Shaw so he filled in the gaps thinking that Fred stretching his leg tripped up Lacazette. The reality was that Fred stretched his leg to stop a cross and Lacazette fell over because they rubbed thighs.

That would be a clear yellow card for diving if we had VAR and Lacazette would have laughed it off and learned.

@breakout67, I remember Mark Clattenburg chatting about having to put a lot of work into keeping in shape. Who knows though, maybe Moss is the leader :)

Football is a contact sport. You are allowed to place your hands on an opponent without it automatically being a foul. If the push is not enough to impede an opponent then it is not a foul, and you'll do well to argue Lacazette was impeded by it. That said, I don't think the decision was anywhere near as bad as people seem to be making out. It was a harsh decision but I can see why he gave it without the luxury of slow-motion replays, it wasn't like he pulled the decision out of his arse.
