The curious case of Jon Moss

Looks nowhere near fit enough to be a PL referee.

Lads it technically was a penalty. Is a push in the back a foul? Yes it is. It was a weak push and Lacazette didn't need to go down but he impeded him and his hand shouldn't have been on his back. The ref could have let it go, sure. It finished the game off but from his vantage point he had to give it.

That's because your teams fouling though. Frankly there wasn't enough fouls given because plenty of legit fouls weren't been given today.

Pogba should have had at least a yellow for his closeline move before he got his first yellow. Rashford was late on Xhaka's knee in the first half and didn't get a card. It was a 50-50 but technically that's at least a yellow.

But you know what on the plus side the game flowed and it was a great game today.

I definitely saw it the other way. Moss made some bad calls though. We had 4 offside decisions go against us that shouldn't have been for instance
? Nothing to do with hand in the back, their thighs touched.

Hopefully you're not just here to wum.

Don't referees have regularly fitness tests to pass? Or is that a 'Once you got the license, never tested again' thing?
Looks extremely unfit.

Scream and he'll blow for a foul. We should train our players to dive and yell more. feck me he was terrible, hope we put a word in to the FA so that he nevers refs our games again.

I'd genuienly want Oliver over him.

Aren't the FA and the referees association embarrassed to have this guy representing them every weekend?

Makes them look like full on amateurs.

There was this weird moment in the first half where Shaw got fouled when he turned inside and made a pass. Moss waved his arms to say no foul, then it took 2 seconds and he gave the freekick. Like he was prepared to not give us anything this game, and in this situation he slowly realised it was too blatant to let play go. I am a bit confused to how he has managed his way into being a PL-ref, but chosen for one of the big games as well? That is the mystery here

He doesn't look fit enough. Saying that however, it was a pen for me. He played the player and not the ball at all.

Absolutely terrible and that was before the pen. He'd be sacked if he was as bad at his job in any other occupation.

I remember that. It was the most blatant foul you’d see on Shaw and it took him 10 minutes to decide. You’d know if it was Arsenal player fouled he’d blow his whistle before contact was even made.

Just a quick English tip for you 'technically' doesn't mean 'in my opinion'. Easy mistake to make, I know, but you made it a couple of times in that post so I think it's worth pointing out.

@breakout67, I remember Mark Clattenburg chatting about having to put a lot of work into keeping in shape. Who knows though, maybe Moss is the leader :)

There is probably a reason that Clattenburg became the top referee in the league in his late thirties while Moss is one of the worst in the league in his late forties. I believe Clattenburg made a career out of being a ref, while Moss didn't fancy working somewhere else and chose this. I believe Moss was a primary school PE teacher before becoming a ref, so it's safe to say he has always been this out of shape :D

Yeah. He was basically demonstrating how we should feel lucky to even be considered in equal terms to his decision making. Ok, you can have that one, but barely. Like wtf. Then him giving a penalty for such an easy to spot dive was predictable as hell. At some point you'll have to question the integrity of the game and its refs when you have games like this. Can't wait for VAR and upgrades on unhealthy refs and hopefully a deep investigation into what transpired those comments made by Clattenburg and how common it is for his former colleagues to follow the same game management ideas.

He was awful today, for both teams. Many missed fouls, cards not given, dodgy penalty. I think he was making it up as he went along

Clattenburg is at least very fit.

I think Moss is the ringleader and has made the referee association his b.....s

I don't think he cost us the game... But god is he shit. He's the worst ref in the league by far.

Soft penalty. I think Moss thinks that Fred clipped him with his legs, which he did not. Very soft penalty.

Soft? It is a clear dive? If Young had done that he'd be almost sent off.

Well yes and no. He had nothing to do with the first goal, that was just unlucky. But we had a lot of chances to score before they closed up shop after the bogus penalty decision, at 0-1 with 10-15 minutes left, anything can happen its Man Utd.
Last 15 minutes of Arsenal play changed the perception of the whole game a lot I feel. Unlucky goal is one thing, shit happens but to have that penalty to finish us off is actually him costing us the game.

That was a Graham Poll-esque performance from him, the fat wanker. No idea how he was put in charge of that game tonight after his shocking show he put up in the Watford Leicester game.

He was inconsistent for both teams, but neutrals would argue that lot of decisions were in our favour. His linesman were just bloody atrocious with judging offsides.

I agree but Fred sort of leans into him, albeit very lightly and that sends him diving to the ground.

from where Moss is, he thinks that Fred clipped him with his legs.

Got it wrong anyhow.

Felt all three refs were dogshit today. There were like 2 breaks Arse had and were unfairly judged offside, there was some bullshit corner/no corner calls and then there's the 'penalty' the cnut called. He also looks like he's a fecking running sack of fat, perhaps that's why his decisions are so off.

As a newbie I can't post video but I suggest re-watching as there was a definite hand or shoulder on his back. He didn't massively impede him, but he was somewhat impeded. You can't argue it was only shoulder to shoulder, hip to hip, which would be fine. But there was definite pressure applied to the back and he was coming across him slightly.

No I'm not the WUM, you were unlucky that you hit the woodwork twice and if Cech was there instead of Leno you would of scored at least 1 and maybe more. Leno saved our Ars today alongside some gutsy performances.

BTW Keane > Robson by a distance for my money

There was no push in the back. They rubbed their thighs against each other and he fell over. Blatant dive that Salah would be proud of.

Ofcourse it was a dive but in the last 15 years there's been the saying 'right to go down'. Most the pens in the last 15 years the player didn't need to go down. I think Fergie said Giggs hardly got any penalties because he didn't go down.

If someone puts their hand on your back with the ref behind you either go down and get a pen or don't.

Also last week Spurs got one given against us when the player was offside.

Very poor performance from him today, but we should have put the game beyond the influence of his fat fingers.

On another day we win 4 or 5-2

Yup. I think both Rashford and Martial could have thrown themselves to the ground in the box during the last 10 minutes when they were surrounded by Arsenal players, and had a real case based on the established judgement of contact made, it was similar contact a lot of times. We need to be more cynical and get those decisions if we can

He is unfit, he just can't keep up with the game.

He should have at least used segway instead of trying to run.

It's one of those rare cases when the referee is behind every play that he just guesses almost most of his decisions

Shouldn't be allowed to ref at a professional level but he's reffing consistently big games in the richest league in the world.
Picking the least fit ref to officiate a fixture that everyone could predict would be end to end was a silly decision.

As soon as I knew moss was refereeing the game I knew it would be difficult , anybody who was at old Trafford when he officiated the game against Burnley saw how bad a ref he really is. Luckily that night we got the equalisers

There must be fitness tests he's passing to be allowed to carry on reffing at this level. And as long as he's passing the tests the FA can't really do anything about how 'large' he is.

It was just a terrible match from the refs today. Didn't favour either team with poor decisions, although obviously the biggest one went against us.

No less than three corners were given as goal kicks today because they missed the last touch (two against us, one against Arsenal). Arsenal had two, maybe three, offside decisions wrongly go against them. Pogba should have had a yellow for the clothesline, as should an Arsenal player for a poor challenge (can't remember who). Twice we committed blatant fouls that he played on, but then about a dozen times he called fouls for perfectly good tackles.

They were just shit in general.

I'm pretty sure England is the only country amongst the European elite where you see referees of this ilk. Physically. Every time I've watched other leagues, I'm taken aback by how the refs look. Mostly young, full head of hair and strapping. This does not speak to how competent they are but they sure look the part.
