Ten Hag sacked | Ruud appointed Interim Manager

I’m really annoyed he was allowed to sell McTominay before he left. Properly bled United and doing very well at Napoli.

He didn't want to sell McTominay. The board decided to sell him as he was one of the few we could get good money for, was getting to the age where that wouldn't be true for much longer, and is simply quite limited as a footballer.

What's gonna happen to Ruud after Anorim is appointed? I feel bad for him in some sense, upended his life to go back to Manchester and then is out on his back after 3 months

I can see him staying till season end at least, if he wants to that is, and then he can make a call in the summer if he wants to go or not.

He was already out of work when we appointed him, so hardly upended his life to bring him here. I suspect he was smart enough to know that there was always a risk of this happening considering how poorly our previous campaign had gone (FA cup win withstanding). Nonetheless you'll expect he'll be well compensated and is still young enough to explore his managerial prospects elsewhere.

Or who knows, there might yet still be a place for him in the new coaching setup.

He didn’t want to sell McTominay but it had to happen to bring the Ugarte transfer to fruition and adhere to PSR rules. It was high time McTominay made an exit though

The only positive thing I can say about him is that I feel for him. He tried his best amongst the circus that we have become. He also had to deal with Ronaldo, Sancho, and then Greenwood. And we had a regime change during his tenure too. All these things do add up.

However, his own inadequacies were laid bare by our PL form. Our lack of finishing is absolutely down to his transfer dealings, tactics, and coaching. No one else should be shouldering the blame.

I actually wish him luck, something I could never say for Moyes, LVG, or Mourinho. Because I feel pity for him. He excelled at Ajax and finally got his big break but unfortunately it didn't work out for him. And at his age, he may already be past it.

Honestly this exact scenario with him in a little interim stint was extremely predictable. He would've known that too.

I think he stays on for the remainder of this season at least.

Never truly wanted him in the first place and didn't understand the hype. Was more pleased that we moved on from Ragnick than acquiring Ten Hag but he will always be a trophy winning United manager so gotta give him appreciation for that. Made some strange decisions. I never understood why he came to United and didn't bring his Ajax style, citing we dont have the type of players and are more suited to transition when he signed a significant portion of our players.

Was that ever his style?

A few quotes from the press conference he did for the Leicester game have come out.

He got asked - "You won this competition a couple of years ago, you've taken great pride in winning trophies in both seasons, if you win a trophy in a third season does that make the season a success again for you?"

Reply - "Definitely, it is about trophies, I don't want to go into this debate again. There are not so many trophies you can win, if you win a trophy in top football, that is the most important, that is what the fans expect, what we expect - to win a trophy. We have had five opportunities and one we missed, that was the Community Shield. There are still four to go."

Kind of sums it up really, league position didn't seem to matter if we won a trophy at the end of the season.

That final quote kind of sums up his entire tenure. I really thought he had higher standards, but he blatantly claimed otherwise so many times. He dragged our standards down the gutter with him.

Ole managed to get us second place with possibly a weaker squad than we have now.
Erik managed third before he tried to implement his ideas too much. There is definitely quality in our squad.

What your last day looks like when you get fired and leave with £17.5m in your back pocket

Wouldn't blame him if he felt relief. It's been an intense few years, he's gotten attacked from every angle, his job has been up in the air on and off on a weekly basis, and results have been less than flattering.

No matter where he ends up he can always say to himself "at least it isn't as stressful as United". He's not getting Barca or Madrid jobs, and no other job in management, aside from those, is this stressful.

How is it toxic? Because you want to believe that and we're not winning games? It's amazing how much winning or losing drives the narrative.

Most of the players that came in are Ten Hag's signings. Why would he sign toxic players who don't like him and don't want to play for him? I would agree with you if we still had the likes of Pogba here but we don't have any characters like him any more.

I don't know about you but I've seen the lads try every single game this season and there have been no rumours about any issues in the dressing room. With the likes of Wilcox and Ashworth now working on the squad building you can guarantee any toxic influence (like Sancho) was shown the door over the summer.

That’s really my point. A manager brought in and can’t get results off or on the pitch.

How else do we explain this? Just a list of awful managers?

Moyes
Giggs
van Gaal
Mourinho
Solskjær
Carrick
Rangnick
ten Hag
Nistelrooy

Why are you even including caretaker managers Giggs, Carrick, and van Nistelrooy in that list?

One of the biggest sport brands on the planet, Manchester United, invests over 600m pounds into his squad and he thinks a community shield and/or league cup is enough to keep the fans and boardroom happy?

This can't possibly be true.
If it is, I can't believe that ETH was allowed to continue for so long.
I guess standards and expectations have fallen quite low.
It has to be true. We have literally won 3 league matches in 3 months this season, so winning 8 in 5 months last season is very much believable.

Have not checked if it is true.

Ole said trophies are for egos and ETH is all about trophies no matter the league position. The truth is probably in the middle.

I get more of what Ole is saying more now though.

Ole perfectly hit the nail on the head when he said sometimes winning a trophy could mask issues within the team and the performance. He was absolutely spot on and it came true less than 2 years after he said it.

Take Jose out of that list and tell me what they'd won and who'd they'd managed in the last 10 years before joining United. You'll have your answer after that.

Obviously you know nothing about football and yes, I do feel sorry for you. It's about trophies and only City had more, so it is a success, a big success, a successful season. Trophies. You know, Ten Hag and Mourinho won a lot of trophies. They're kind of the same level.

I am so relieved that I don't have to be confronted with that mindset any longer. Long overdue, but it is over now. Best of luck to Ten Hag elsewhere, best of luck to Ruud and if Amorim really gets the job, I'll be excited.

Huge pressure on Ruud now. One game after which he will be remembered as best manager in history of Man Utd or worst manager in history. 100% win rate or 0%.

We should have cut ties with ten hag after that 7-0 loss to Liverpool, that was the lowest moment for me post fergie and I had no confidence he was the man to get us challenging for the title again after that result.
