Ten Hag sacked | Ruud appointed Interim Manager

Potter will be in the mix probably. I think it’s between

Frank
Potter
Amorim
Nagelsmann (unlikely)

Excellent. Looking forward to seeing who we sack next.
This club is a joke.

That Mazraoui as a 10 was such a strange decision v Fenerbache. We couldn't even put that down to injuries as we had players who could have played that role. Good luck to Erik on his future endeavors but the correct call has been made, albeit too late.

Thank you lord for this wonderful, wonderful day. The week is already a good one!
Now please get some proper, young, foreign dude in, not a British Ineos friendship dinosaur

It was time for him to go, couldn’t adapt his tactics and after two and a bit seasons still hadn’t implemented a style, despite 600 million in transfers, whether they were his players or not it’s not good enough.

Appreciate both cup final wins and wish him all the best in his career.

It has basically written off our season in October, not sure what manager we can get now and will probably have to wait until the end of the season.

Knowing our current luck we will end up with Potter/Southgate/Frank rather than Hoeness/Amorin.

I still think the season is salvageable personally if someone can come in and make a quick impact. We've made the decision early enough.

Obviously nobody will blame whoever comes in too much if they don't, but we've got a squad capable of doing much better than this.

Very sad to see him go, although it's the right decision. Perhaps more sad that it didn't work out.

I could see what he was trying to do here, and it would have been great if he'd been able to make it work, but he wasn't able to get the players performing.

Wish him all the best in future, except whenever he comes up against us. Contrary to some of the more hyperbolic posters on here, I don't think he'll struggle for another job and expect him to do well elsewhere.

Not sure about RVN as the interim, hopefully it doesn't last too long and we get the full time appointment in soon.

The press that knew nothing about the sacking until after it happened. are all wise about who United are after now. They are all clickbait merchants.
Good point. While obviously there were a lot of rumours due to just how bad things are going, nobody in the media seemed to break this story early. It all seemed quiet enough that everyone was giving him the classic 'two more games'.

Really shows that we do seem to be better at keeping news in-house now.

I feel for ETH. I don't think he's a bad coach, I think the job was simply too big for him. Just as it was too big for every other manager since Fergie.

I think future managers will be helped by only needing to focus on the first team, and will hopefully benefit from the cumulative impact of season after season of buying players who are compatible with each other, and with the managers we bring in. ETH inherited a dog's dinner of a squad, who don't seem to suit any style of football other than counter attacking into space.

It's debatable whether any manager could have succeeded in these conditions. But it's undeniable that ETH couldn't.

Now we're in the position we didn't want to be, choosing a manager when the best managers are unavailable. Best case scenario, Ruud keeps a steady ship til summer, when we can get involved in the manager roundabout.

This is the 4th manager these fecking players have fired!!!

I didn't see any lack of effort under ETH or 'downing tools'. Players with low confidence being unable to execute maybe.

In his first season, the period from the win against Spurs to the league cup final was the best and most optimistic I've felt as a United fan in the post-SAF era. What the feck happened after that cup final was mostly awful though.

Had to happen.

As he rightly predicted, "eras come to an end". His awful era at Man United is finally over, and we can breath some fresh air again.

It had to be done. Such big financial backup and still struggling, what gives? Surely him in postmatch interviews seeming content with the results wasnt doing him any favors. Some will say he didnt get enough time, but what is enough time? You are dealing with pro footballplayers, and it shouldnt take years to get your vision of play and tactics across.

Ye that could be true as we seen them arguing the other week on the touchline and rumours was RVN wanted to go more attacking.

We have been complaining through ETH's time of sitting on leads. How many late goals did we concede last year during stoppage time etc because ETH put on CB's and removed all of our attacking intent. Supposedly there was Garnacho asking to attack against Villa or someone I think and was told to just defend.

On the other hand; the worst league finishes and European finishes since Fergie ended. No manager has had us finishing us in 8th and then having us in 14th.

He’s the worst for me post Fergie.
The 8th place and an FA Cup is better than a 7th place and no trophy under Moyes. Moyes was by far the worst permanent manager.

He has a better win ratio than Moyes, Van Gaal and Ole.

In terms of trophies only Mourinho’s Europa League and EFL Cup is better than Ten Hag's FA Cup and EFL Cup.

The first thing RvN needs to do is appoint a new captain who can motivate and stop heads dropping if we go behind.

Is this actually real? Can someone pinch me?!
WOW!!! I was almost certain they would keep him year out regardless for whatever reason!
Should have been kicked out a year ago, at least, but that does not matter now.

Probably the main reason is the players, it seemed apparent he’d lost their confidence age ago which is justified given the confusing tactics and lack of any style. On balance I suspect Ten Hag’s Dutch directness may have been part of the problem but as usual the players should take a good part of the blame for some awful performances.

@Ish

Amorim the standout in that list. But I can see him replacing pep at city. We need to think outside the box like Brighton do. There are so many managers and some who deserve a shot. The Stuttgart manager should be on the list.
This. It’s a joke that fails like Potter are even mentioned. Think outside the box, get a young, hungry manager in. Someone who doesn’t overthink and shows the boys to have fun again playing. What we need least is another Einstein going on about process, rebuild, we need time blabla. Enough with that, we spent a fortune on this squad, it doesn’t need rebuilding. Slot came in and needed zero adaptation time. Do the same, work with the material we have, which on paper is easily top 3 material.

It's been coming. He might have still had the players but he lost the fanbase a while ago and couldn't win any trust back. I was excited when we hired him - and thanks for the two trophies - but this was overdue. I was in the 'back him' camp right up to the last international break but even I realised that he had been on borrowed time before that. The club is arguably in a better state than it was when he arrived though so we do owe him some respect. Thanks Erik, and good luck. Onwards and upwards for us now I hope.

He’s going to be massive getting us back to where we want to be.
No white text? Have you seen him play last two years? Most of our attacking players need to feck off. Rashford bein the first one with his lazy attitude. Garnacho needs a manager to sort him out and his negative moaning to teammates, main culprit of this constant moaning to teammates being Bruno that is not seeing his own wastefulness on the ball. Not sure if Rudd will bring a big improvement but hope to be proven wrong.

Didn't even get close to Xmas, which I, back in August when they extended his contact (genius idea), predicted as the date he'd be sacked. I'm willing to bet Ruud brings in an academy forward into the squad for Wednesday's game in the Mickey Mouse cup

When Bruno smacked those two last balls out of play at the end of the match yesterday, and didn't give a shit, I knew Ten Hag was gone.

I never understand the assistant taking over. What is the fecking difference? Clearly Ruud and the coaching staff were equally as responsible. Load of crap.

Ratcliffe has said a thousand times the footballing decisions will be made by the footballing people, they weren’t in place yet.
No matter how he spins it he had plenty of time to make an informed decision. You are saying that he sanctioned transfers that EtH wanted even though he had no "football people" in place. That looks like more stupid to me.

What will happen to players like Onana? Who were bought in to suit Ten Hag's "playing style".
