Why would they when Cavani had most top clubs in europe sniffing around and is a better player without being morally corrupt?

He is on a long term deal, our best player, we hold out for the best price - it all seems logical to me. If anyone feels he isn't for worth that, for whatever reason fine, as a Liverpool fan if he goes I want the club to get the best price possible as we are unlikely to currently be able to attract a player of the same quality at the moment.

Yep.

Now Liverpool will know we are desperate and can hold their demands. The only hope we have is if Suarez hands in a transfer request and demands to move to us.

Meanwhile Real will have £30+ million fresh from the Higuain sale... And there's no way Liverpool would sell to us over Real.

Suarez body language in this game has been awful. Doesn't look like a single shit is being given by him.

BBC are saying he is demanding talks with Arsenal about a move regardless of the offer being turned down.

I suspect if Arse agree to throw him the loyalty bonus as a signing on bonus, he'll hand in a transfer request and be gone by the time they get back to the UK.

This is a guy who bites other players when hes happy, imagine what the shit could do if the make him stay.

You missed the part where Boro took it to the courts afterwards for more and we eventually had to negotiate a settlement with them.

Can you provide a link. I think that in your head.

Edit: Boro more or less gave up and settled for a "nominal fee".

Blame the British media for wanting to leave Liverpool.

Wants move to Arsenal.

Next step should be buy a glass fronted ground-floor apartment on Fleet Street.

Out of interest, when is he back from suspension. Thinking about putting him my fantasy team, despite how much I can't stand him...

Think it is around 5/6 league games into the season. There is potentially two league cup matches I believe.

I don't think it's relevant. Andy Carroll went for £35m, that doesn't mean every player of a similar level should go for the same.

How does Suarez's club record even stack up against Cavani's?

There's no way on earth that the Suarez I've watched in the last few years is worth £40m.

Berbatov was never worth 30m+ just that sometimes the seller holds the power while other times the buyer does. In this case, until Toothy hands in a transfer request the seller holds the power. If/when Toothy does hand in a transfer request then perhaps the buyer will have some power.

To be fair to him, he is a great player, regardless of how much of a cnut he is. I would try to hold out for around 40 million if Madrid was offering that for him, but since it's Arsenal, I'd have probably given a similar response. Selling Suarez to Arsenal would destroy any slight chance there is of liverpool making it to the champions league in the next few years, and Arsenal would pretty much cement themselves in those spots.

For me, herein lies the problem for LFC. They're nowhere near CL level and won't make it with Toothy in tow. Might as well cash in and reinvest in quality players and aim for Europa this term with a plan to push to CL qualification in 2014-15.

LFC is simply a delusional monster these days.

They aren't too far in my opinion, it depends on how their signings settle. From their point of view, selling Suarez to Arsenal would be shooting themselves in the foot and would leave them with no chance of champions league football for the foreseeable future. I'm sure they'd sell him to Madrid if they offered over 40 million like Arsenal have.

Agreed above. They would certainly prefer he go abroad versus strengthen a club above. However, they may be in a rut much like Arsenal was with RVP. It seems that perhaps only a club or two is interested in Suarez at the moment.

Morals? FFS. It's not like he's asking Suarez to be a godfather to his child. Did your morals stop you from cheering Rooney and Giggs?

Funny how this, and other, spirited defences of Suarez coincides with the prospect of him joining your club.

Make the effort of reading the posts instead of posting nonsense. Noone's defended him in the least, in fact it's quite the opposite.

I was a little surprised and pleased to see Chesterlestreet giving a rather reasoned opinion on the issue. Then twunts like you come along and remind me that there's a reason there was a 140 pager on Thiago and Cesc.

I'm well aware that there's been sensible posts from Arsenal fans, but also posts in which people are straining to be "open-minded" about Suarez's past behaviour...which is what I was highlighting.

It's expected and predictable.

Football fans are the biggest hypocrites.

Oh yeah, and I wouldn't exclude United fans from that - we've already seen supposedly tongue-in-cheek comments from a few of our fans suggesting we bid for Suarez.

Yeah I was talking about supporters of every team when I said that.

If he hadn't racially abused an United player, then the no. of United fans suggesting a bid for him would be a much, much higher number.

Well I agree you'll struggle to replace him, but I wouldnt put much past him when he's unhappy and I doubt you'll be able to get as much for him next season when you'll clearly have to let him leave

My point is that is isn't a ridiculous valuation but more a ridiculous expectation of someone to pay that much, although I imagine thats what Liverpool think as well, and will hang on to him.

okay fair enough, I suppose we will find out soon enough.

Spirited defense? Come on Steve. I STILL don't want him to come here, not because I think he is a bad guy (though he probably is) but because I don't want to deal with him getting suspended.

I don't care about personal shit. I root for the players who pull on the shirt every week and that's it. Laurent Koscielny probably has a gambling problem. Jack Wilshere doesn't visit his grandma often enough. Theo Walcott likes Bobby McFerrin. Bacary Sagna cheats on his wife. Mikel Arteta ran into his neighbors mailbox and then drove off. Whatever. I don't care about any of that. I'd take Nasri back right now if it improved our team.

We're not 9 years old anymore looking up to our sporting heroes. Why do they have to be great human beings in addition to great footballers? Who cares?

I have been outsmarted, outwitted & out-everythinged by Eboue. Nothing unusual there.

A racist biting maniac on the pitch is comparable to X player not seeing his Grandma. Brilliant.

On another note: I wonder why Chelsea aren't in for him. He would be perfect there. Jose would gouge players/managers eyes and then Suarez can go and bite them. He would also fit in well with Captain Marvelous.

Can't Liverpool simply take his transfer request and send it through the shredder? Or do they have to consider it based on the bid?

In other news, what has happened to my football club? I used to get excited over signing unknowns because I trusted Wenger to turn them into superheroes, and now we're bidding £40,000,000 for a single player. Jesus Christ.

Don't know how I feel about it. On one hand, it'd be hilarious to see Liverpool lose their star player to another PL club again but on the other, he'd make Arsenal a much, much better team. I think I'd prefer it if he just went to Madrid.
