Rodgers is managing him poorly, IMO. Everyone can see that he struggles to cope with two games in a few days but Rodgers continues to start him every game.
I've got some time for Steve Gerrard unlike a lot of United fans. I think he has received too much stick for his England performances by too many yet you couldn't find another player who was so passionate about and proud of playing for England in the last 10 years except for David Beckham. He busted his guts for England - always - while some others especially under Sven showed signs of believing their own publicity instead of having Stevie G's drive.I've a mate who supports Liverpool who's been saying for the last season and a half that Gerrard needs to be dropped for Liverpool to progress. Also, that Rodgers is a bit guff as a manager. and the individual brilliance of Suarez carried them last year.
Agree with pretty much all that. Gerrard wouldn't get near our midfield. The only player in the 3 that play deeper for them you could make a case for would be Henderson. They are going to end up with the same problems we had, relying on Scholes and Giggs to still do it for us and never replacing them, except Gerrard isn't ageing as well as they did.
Agreed. It won't be long before he picks up an injury.Rodgers is managing him poorly, IMO. Everyone can see that he struggles to cope with two games in a few days but Rodgers continues to start him every game.

If he does Brendan's prayers will probably be answered. Rodgers is trying hard to keep us afloat with the necessity to play Gerrard. He's not 'forced' to obviously, but he's imagining the furore if Liverpool play (or continue playing) badly and he's seen as the manager that dropped our talisman. Its one of those unquantifiable risks.
If Mourinho or Ferguson managed us Gerrard would have been given the hook long ago. Brendan doesn't have their record to back up such a key decision.
Would like it if he's dropped for Hull though, our defence needs some shielding and Stevie's legs will not be up to it so soon after Madrid.
I thought you only needed 8 or 9 players to beat Hull anyway
Gerrard would walk into the United midfield. However the logistics of signing him would make it a bit of a stupid buy, but he certainly wouldnt walk into Citys Chelsea or Liverpools.
Opposite of Gary Neville, who realised he had lost it & retired mid-season. Must take some balls to do that, he could have taken his pay cheque until the end of the season and it wouldn't have changed his legend status, but no he came to a realisation that the team were better without him involved.
Liverpool fans get genuinely offended if you try and say this to them. "But he's only 34, la. Giggs played until he was 40 #YAWN!"
It is so true though. I think Rodgers knows this league campaign is going to be hard and dropping Gerrard would give the heavy hearted Liverpool supporters ammunition to challenge him. His Ballon d'Ors aren't large enough to drop him. There's also the slight issue that there aren't many replacements who would improve their midfield so I think Rodgers is just swallowing it for now but the issue is I cannot see Gerrard being dropped while he's still captain. I reckon Rodgers is hoping for an injury to him so he can drop him excusably.
I still think he has a role but 90 minutes for 50+ games this season won't allow him to get anywhere near the best he can be in that role.
Gas should have retired long before same as Scholes, Giggs and Keane. Players shouldn't stay with a club because they can produce 20 minutes of magic every now and then.
I admire the likes of Cantona and Baggio who never stressed on the perceived obligations the club may have towards his own players. Such players are becoming rare these days.

Yep, if we combined Scholes' Brain with Giggs body they could have gone on until 40+I disagree with Scholes and Giggs to an extent
They both went at the right(ish) time..........Scholes passing and playmaking ability even in his final season is superior to what we have now - Giggs until 36/37 was still very effective - he stayed a season too long but then he was older than Scholes
Henderson was terrible, none of those pool midfielders did anything useful yesterday. They have no business being at a club that aspires to be at the top of the european game, no business at all.I've a mate who supports Liverpool who's been saying for the last season and a half that Gerrard needs to be dropped for Liverpool to progress. In fairness to Rodgers it's not like he has better options available. He played Gerrard as an AM against QPR (which is ideally how he should be used ala Giggs) but they were so shit that he had to move back deeper in the 2nd half.
I liked the moment when my commentator said that Liverpool needs to calm down and try to keep the ball for a bit (I think they were 1 or 2 goals down then). Literally the next thing, Liverpool gets the ball and captain fantastic smashes one of his hollywood passes to Neuer
It was fun watching Gary Neville nit-pick Liverpool's flaws throughout the match. He even made it awkward for his co-commentator whilst discussing the Suarez topic, all while casually managing to slip in a 'mob' reference at Real somewhere in the match
I watched it on Russian stream, so don't know what Gary did. Mine was awful, he was going on and on about Anfield's fantastic crowd and how they were so classy that evening
Gary probably had a field day there

C) Watch him slip in a City shirt to cost them the league would probably be the best thing to ever happen in the history of mankind
I dont think I could handle that and I dont think the servers would too.C) Watch him slip in a City shirt to cost them the league would probably be the best thing to ever happen in the history of mankind
They wont melt as the scousers would most likely switch teams again. There's talk of him leaving Liverpool at the end of the season. Now, if he joined Chelsea or City (lets just say hypothetically) and won himself a Premier league medal, would you be A) pissed off because the c*nt finally won the premier league, or B) would it be worth watching him lift the trophy with another team just to see the scousers go in to all time meltdown?

I could see Mourinho offering him a contract just to wind them up. He hates scousers nearly as much as I do. But no, I don't want to see him ever lifting the premier league. Thank christ that it isn't going to happen at Liverpool. There's talk of him leaving Liverpool at the end of the season. You slipped, didn't you Stevie.

He can do one, missed his opportunity back in 2005. Story of what could have been for him.
