Steven Gerrard

If that is the moment that loses the title for Liverpool, I will be the happiest man in the world Couldn't have happened to a nicer cnut! :D

Well said. Now win us the World Cup, you scouse sack of shite.

A lot of people questioned Gerrard's mentality and professionalism after the team huddle against City and although I'm not bringing that topic into discussion, I did find it shocking how Gerrard's performace completely dovetailed after that slip-up against Liverpool. I understand it would weigh on his mind and he constantly looked to atone for his error, but the drastic dip in performance from the first half to the second, was astonishing in my opinion.

Mental

God, if that slip ends up costing Liverpool the title the irony of it all would be celebrated for years.

Question: if they were to lose the race now, would that slip be sweeter than Terry's in Moscow in 08?

I mean yes, we were actually involved in the latter - it helped win us the CL - but it was only Chelsea. Agony for Liverpool is so much sweeter... Plus it would be preserving the two-championship gap between our record and theirs.

Winning the Champions League > Liverpool finishing second

Are you 12 or something?

Us winning the UCL Vs Liverpool losing a title is a non contest.

We're in scouse-mocking mode, lads, try not to take it too seriously eh?

Also, even being tongue-in-cheek as I was, I obviously didn't mean us winning the CL vs. 'pool losing the league. I meant specifically the cruel irony of it coming from a Terry/Gerrard slip.

Ah yeah, fair enough.

"Cruel irony" wise, Gerrard costing his team the trophy that he's absolutely desperate for, having previously gifted the trophy to Chelsea with that backpass that stopped us winning it, will be off the charts.

I noticed Gerrard stopped taking the corners in the last 15 minutes. Was it purely for selfish reasons so he could try and score himself because Aspas' were terrible

Without a shadow of doubt it was so he could be in the box, potentially score and be the hero. The man. Today was possibly the most selfish display I've seen from a captain. Kind of the complete opposite of Keane's performance in Turin.

Yeah agree with that. Made no sense to me to see him not taking the corners as his deliverys so good that i almost expect them to score when they get one.

Gerrard completely lost the plot embarking on a one-man mission to atone for his screw-up to the detriment of team play.

Yeah, his corners and free-kicks have been exceptional this year. Skrtel alone has 7 goals.

As I mentioned in the Scholes Lampard Gerrard thread I thought today was a great example of why he's not on Scholes level. He puts himself before the team. Today I lost count of the amount of times he shot from distance instead of playing a pass to a team-mate in space.

Are we allowed to say Gerrard bottled it? He had it there and blew it he will never get a better chance now. If we get back to being a force next season they will struggle to get top 4 again.

He takes about half of our corners, he often rotates with Coutinho. No idea why Aspas was taking them.

Usually what we do is have Gerrard start taking corners and then after one or two Coutinho takes one. It has left Gerrard unmarked a couple of times.

Completely lost the plot in general. The second half he wasted a good 10 attacks by trying to steal the headlines with 40 yard attempts. Awful display of leadership, and very brainless/immature from a 34 year old midfielder.

He's better than Scholes was.
Scholes would never have wasted 10 shots like that, Gerrard was the fecking main playmaker and yet he fecked half the shots into the stand. Brainless and greedy.

Scholes was a world class individual but more than that he always put the team first.

Gerrard is too selfish. If you'd had Scholes in that role today instead, I reckon you'd have won. Scholesy wouldn't have been so greedy. Today could be a watershed moment for Gerrard if you don't win this title in as much as fans will agree with Fergie that he wasn't a top top player.

Edit. What I mean by that is fans in general. The wider public perception of Gerrard as a player. Great Roy of the rovers type for Liverpool but no top, top draw ala Scholes, Keane etc. when it came to the crunch he went for personal glory over the team.

Only children and the brainless masses think Gerrard was a top, top player. Fantastic athlete, yes, but utterly brainless as a CM.
