Possibly, but he wasn't showing the form at Independente that's grabbed the headlines in the last couple of years (though he was admittedly impressive), and whilst you may have been early noticing him, I'm not sure he had enough of a profile for Prem managers to all take note. He's developed really well at Atletico though, and he and Forlan are a really good partnership (they've continued playing well despite the side struggling in general atm).

I think if he leaves now, it'll be for a fairly hefty sum. Once players start getting linked with big sides to the extent Aguero has, the attention from other clubs, and cycle of the media hype seems to push the player's reputation and price up further (not claiming Aguero is overhyped here btw). I'd still be delighted if we got him though, assuming it wasn't done at the expense of sales of important players.

work permit?

If there's any South American that should have been signed 2-3 years ago it was Pato, but work permit problems have and always will present difficulties for English clubs. Which is a shame. One would think plenty of youngsters from abroad would relish the thought of joining the Premiership. Essien would have signed back in 2000 for starters.

I will reiterate that Sir Alex has had no success with Argentinian players, Heinze, Veron, Tevez. What makes you think we will even think of buying yet another Argentinian, especially one which has family ties with Mr "Hand of God -Part I".

1.) There's an issue on whether those players didn't fit our style or didn't fit in at the club because of the individuals they are, and style of play they had; or whether they were Argentine. Veron didn't fit into our style of play IMO, and Tevez disrespected the club and left for mercenary reasons. I doubt that means Fergie will never consider buying another South American.

2.) I never said we'd certainly buy him. I said I thought he'd be a good signing for us, and pointed out how he'd link up well with other individuals in our side; and how he'd be beneficial in the system we play.

You appear to have twisted what I've said and made me sound like I'm muppeting, when I was just pointing out why he'd fit well into the way we play.

Hey Chill. Was not trying to make you sound like a muppet. I guess what I was trying to say was that "thrice bitten" anyone would be shy. If there was no "Argentine baggage", I would think that United would for sure be looking very closely at Aguero.

Agüero Blunder: Technical Glitch Or Transfer Info?

The Sun had a field day with a United blunder again: apparently, a profile screen was created on the official website for Atlético Madrid's Sergio Agüero. Now this can be interpreted in two different ways.

First, that this is a leak, that United actually have an agreement with Atletico Madrid and started to create the profile for their new acquisition but someone screwed up and it appeared prematurely.

Or you can accept the club's explanation, quoted by the Sun, that it was merely a technical anomaly. Probably someone was fooling around or running some kind of test, who knows?

Unfortunately anyone who saw a financial report on United - in other words, anyone who clicked on a football website in the last two weeks - will know that the latter is a significantly more likely explanation. I would estimate that the first version has a chance of about 0.0001 percent.

I dont think we will sign him, especially in this January transfer window.

We also had a similar thing happen with Casillas in the summer.

Hope that helps.

There's profiles like that for loads of random players on site. The last one to make the "news" was a Benzema profile on the site.

You'd think people would realise this by now.

They create profiles for every single person named on the site so that they can use the 'related news' function.

Fully expect Chelsea to do everything they can to sign Aguero in summer now their ban has been predictably lifted.

There's only a handfull of clubs who could ever afford this guy.

City
Chelsea
Real
Barca

Linking us with his is completely pointless.

eh, hello, Gill said Fergie has 100million to spend, hello!?

He will move to Inter. Papi-in-law will make sure that he does.

Unlikely, despite the big friendship between Maradona and Moratti. We have 4 great strikers like Milito, Eto'o, Pandev and Balotelli and I believe they'll be the same also next year. Aguero will probably move to Chelsea or Manchester United.

He certainly wont be coming to us id pretty much rule out any chance of that happening, think hes as good as odds on to be a Chelsea player come the summer, id be very surprised if he wasnt, with Anelka and Drogba both getting on in years it would make sense.

After seeing Rooney turning into an absolutely fantastic lone striker, I'm not so sure after all what we need. I guess Benzema would indeed have been the best choice and I can clearly see why Fergie went for him; He's the type of striker who can lead the line and also play on the left whenever we go 4-2-3-1 in the 'big' games... but other than Benzema, Drogba and Saha (all of them for different reasons unavailabe) I can't see anyone fitting the bill, especially not for a cut-down price.

Plus i am not sure he is what we need. We need a powerful, agile, quick striker a la Torres. Unless he would play behind Rooney

We've got one in Diouf, we need a playmaker now. Hamsik or a Gourcuff.

The spanish press are reporting that united have informed atletico of their interest in Aguero and its now in Agueros hands

Manchester United, willing to pay the clause Agüero

Defeat in the Copa del Rey final was not the only blow for Atletico. The club Atletico could face up shortly by one of its stars: the 'Kun' Agüero.

He informed the Cadena SER midnight, Manchester United want to sign Argentine forward at all costs, and is willing to pay in full the price of its buyout clause: 60 million euros.

The tears of Sergio Aguero ... Goodbye to Atletico Madrid?

Barcelona, (Sports Network) - Sergio Aguero left the Camp Nou today with tears after losing the final of the Copa del Rey, fueling rumors that next season puts him out of Atletico.

Atletico Madrid fell 2-0 to Sevilla and lost the opportunity of a big fire season that they won the League Europe.

Aguero was the last player to leave Atletico Madrid in the field. He stood alone, while Sevilla's players celebrated the title on the field. Después, el argentino se despidió de todos los hinchas rojiblancos con lágrimas en los ojos. Then, the Argentine took leave of all Atletico supporters with tears in his eyes.

After the meeting, the "Cadena SER" said the Atletico Madrid millionaire received an offer from Manchester United, he would be willing to pay the buyout clause, which is 60 million euros ($ 74.4 million).

The whole red and white through a difficult economic situation and would be willing to consider the proposal of Manchester United. "Atletico Madrid left the decision to the player," added the radio station.

Agüero fulfilled 22 years on 2 June and recently left a door open at the exit of team he played for since 2006, when it launched the European adventure.

"I always said that in June the club will try to do my best to see if the entity needs money or build economically otherwise. If it's for the good of the club ...", said a few days ago.

Aguero did not say too much after the meeting, he offered an impromptu press conference at the insistence of journalists.

"I felt sadness, a negative thought about not getting the win. No one said goodbye. I was sorry for the party that lost. I thought we lost, we could not take the Cup, not in anything else," he said.

Agüero again gave the fans of Atletico Madrid. "I felt excitement for the people, still encouraging dsespués to end the game. They behaved very well. This is the first time I went, we lost and we continue to encourage," he added.

Don't get too excited;

Manchester United want to find a dance partner for Rooney, after a year that is out of the Champions League and Premier not.

Ferguson has been in the Kun Agüero, the ideal player to make mischief with the England striker and to regain the throne in the Premiership.

According to radio station Cadena Ser reported, Manchester would be willing to pay the buyout clause in Aguero, some 60 million euros, to take over its services. According to the station, Atletico Madrid and knows the interest and now only need to know what the Argentine decide, which also been interested in Real Madrid.

Aguero's options are actually going to be quite limited, given how much he'll eventually go for and who are in the market.

I think I recall him saying he won't play for Real, and Barca look to have taken care of that position today. That only really leaves us, Chelsea and City who could possibly afford him, with Inter as dark horses. I'd expect him to end up at Chelsea for around £40m.

60 Million pesetas maybe, which equals to a big fat nothing since 2002. The same amount we have in our WAR CHEST <roar>.
