Sergio Aguero

Problem is if we sign Aguero we will either have to drop Berbatov or play a 4-3-3 and drop all our conventional wingers such as Nani, Obertan, Park etc.

it would be wortth it. He is sensational. They would get games, we four switch between the two formations or they could play as part of the three in the 433.

With either Giggs, Scholes, Hargreaves (if) Obertan, Nani/Berbatov, Owen, Ljajic, Valencia, Diouf, Evans, Park on the bench? Two players too many to keep happy IMO.

Dropping Berbatov would be a tragedy considering the glowing performances we had seen from him in the past year.

Well Giggs and Scholes won't be around for long, Park is a back up player and is happy with 20 odd matches per season, Owen cost nothing, if someone better comes along tough shite, it's about the club not individuals.

If, if if, there were any truth to these reports, I think not, then a world class player who improves the team and adds that bit of magic would be worth losing players such as Park and Owen.

Well said

Good versus Birmingham, missed a sitter though, Came on as a sub against Burnley, and was brilliant versus Wigan.

His touches are great but that where always first class. Unfortunately he provides little threat in front of goal and he tends to slow our game. In my opinion Berbatov is our version of Rolls Royce, a luxury to have but often not what you need.

Mind you I have nothing against the Berba guy. Its not his fault that he plays in the same role where Rooney is so comfortable in. We need a world class finisher to complement the Rooney guy and Berba is certainly not that kind of player.

journalist chap on MUTV said earlier that Aguero was all set to join Chelsea in Jan or next summer, but transfer ban would affect that and United may well steal in...

Would be lovely to turn the tables on Chelsea after they made a mission of stealing our targets when cuddly pete moved there.

Oh and er, Aguero's pretty good from what I've seen!

I wouldnt take this seriously, sounds like some journalist talking shite to me.

so many of those are either young talents, squad players or use sparingly players. Almost all. Rooney aguero berbatov being the first choice attacking players. Besides hagreaves, scholes and giggs are central middielders. Hargreaves can play across the midfield and is half dead.

Obviously I'm assuming this won't happen. If it does I'll be over the moon. He's one of tv most gifted footbalerw in wolds football.

Even though Aguero is more talented than Tevez, a forward like of Rooney-Aguero-Berbatov will fail.

Aguero wouldn't work with Rooney, in my opinion. It's bad enough we have Berbatov, who, despite his obvious talents, is not Rooney's best partner by a long shot. Rooney's best partner would be someone like Drogba, or Saha. A big powerful forward with a turn of pace and lethal finishing instincts.

It's not a surprise that Rooney's best form came when he was partnered with Saha, and we played our best football. It's also not a surprise that he invariably plays better for England next to Heskey. If we signed a Heskey-esque striker but with a modicum of technical ability (like Drogba), Rooney'd flourish.

Or Adebayor. I still reckon we should have bid for him, he's proving to be a snip at £25 million for City.

What a load of rubbish. Rooney has certainly "flourished" this season, and he's done that playing with Berbatov.

Has he? Rooney's done nothing this season he's not done before, in my book. He started off in a great run of form (he always goes on a great run of form), and is currently sat squarely in the middle of a nasty slump (he always has a nasty slump). I don't think Berbatov compliments him as well as a striker in the Drogba/Saha/Adebayor mould would; and the football we played in '06/'07 is testament to that.

Its true Rooney would form a great attacking partnership with Drogba or some pacy striker like Villa or Torres, but this season his form has been excellent. If he doesnt take his regular midseason metatarsal break, I am sure he can notch up 30 gaols.

In the name of all thats holy........ Get a frigging grip!

Whilst i'm at it a major Diouf on you all.

Dont find anything wrong with a creative player like Aguero playing alongside Rooney and Berbatov. The style of playing with two wingers sticking wide and providing width has become predictable although it can bring the best out of Rooney.

I personally think we would struggle in the CL against top teams if we play with Valencia and Nani sticking out wide with Rooney and Berbatov in the middle. It would be better to go with a three men midifield along with three attackers.

Ah yes. Nasty slump. He hasn't scored in his last 3 games!

Yeh, but we've only played ten games! My point is that he's playing very well, but only as well as he always does. I don't see any significant improvement, and I think that's because - when partnered with Berbatov - he's being asked to do things he's not entirely suited to. It was Rooney who was primarily trying to control and win the ball when it got hoofed fowards on Saturday, and that's not his main role.

No, Berbatov is very talented but he's not Rooney's best foil by a long way. A pacy, physical striker who can cause his own brand of havok (like Drogba or Adebayor) would allow Rooney more freedom, and elevate his game to yet another level.

So someone who is nothing like Aguero then.

Diouf!

To be honest at the moment I think Bent would work wonders with Rooney. Hope our Englishes gaffer gives those two a shot. I'm tired of seeing Heskey out there...

That's one of the biggest myths on this forum. Rooney's worst period of form since joining us was in the first half of 06/07 when he was partnered upfront with Saha. Now I'm not saying that it was the partnership which caused that bad form (it was more the way he was rushed back from injury for the WC), but you can't re-write history.

It worked much better between them in the latter stages of 05/06, but I certainly wouldn't say it was Rooney's best form.
