Seamus Coleman

Good player, but come on just because moyes used to manage there he doesn't need to keep trying to sign their players. Just makes it look even worse for him. I do rate Coleman, but for me right back isn't an issue for us, yeah we could do with decent cover for Rafael but there is much bigger problems to see to.

25m is alot of money for a fullback with no CL experience and who impressed in the past 18 months

He was mainly a winger before that. He has impressively hit the road running since he started playing as a full back and the chances are he could even improve more again. If we could get him and like I said the dosh is there well then we should go for him. I'd be confident enough he'd strengthen us and that's all that should matter now, feck the price not that £20-25m is a lot these days anyways.

We may have the dosh but there's plenty of positions that need to be filled. I wouldn't mind if we get Coleman. FFS I added him in my 'rebuilding' thread. However 25m are a lot of money. I am sure that we can find a non EPL fullback who would do an equally good job for 10m less.

We may need 2 centre backs, a left back, 2 midfielders, a new winger and a striker in the summer. 25 million on a right back is just stupid.

As good a job as what Coleman has been consistently doing for Everton in the PL for the guts of two years now?

Good luck.

We need 5 players. LB, RB, CB and 2 CM. We don't need any wingers (Zaha, Januzaj, Mata, Valencia, Young and Jesse provide ample quality/cover) and certainly we don't need a striker (RVP, Welbeck and Rooney are good enough). It would be nice to see a quality rb at OT as I am tired to see Jones/Smalling as rb. However 25m for Seamus border to the ridiculous.

Well maybe they won't have such unique experience but I am sure that we're able to find a good right back at a reasonable price.

He certainly wouldnt be the backup since hes better.

Its easy to shine at Everton. Just ask Moyes, his entire coaching staff, his bushy haired side kick and the likes of Tim Howard and Philip Neville.

I am not saying that Seamus is shit, in fact Id love to see him at OT. However its one thing closing the gaps in a mid table EPL side and its another marking the likes of Ronaldo and Messi in the CL. 25m is too steep.

Yes its too much money but we seem to want to overpay by a longshot on every player I guess I'm just starting to accept that.

As for standing out at Everton, I dont think the current Rafael would. And I'd back Coleman vs Ronaldo or Messi over him right now.

That's great. Suarez and aguero are the best strikers in the league so let's get them too. If we splash out on positions that are not the main priority again then we won't make progress.

We'd want to make a better effort on both the talent and money side of things as we did for left back.

Coleman is one of the best around in his field now, to me due to his style of play he'd be a lad that would do well abroad in Europe as well and I wouldn't be surprised if one or two of the big guns in Europe are keeping a close eye on him now too. If we spent £20-25m on him and he came in and he continued to do the same job for us as he has been doing for Everton, I'd be happy out.

We're in no position to be worrying about what this lad or that lad is worth now anyways. If the chances are pretty high and I think they would be in this instance that a player will come in and improve us or a specific area on the team and the money is there well then make a beeline for him. No two ways about it, we're on the ropes here.

better than Rafael, and not a sicknote like Rafael = no brainer transfer target.

And obviously United need an Irish player to be truly successful.

If RB was our only problem then I may agree. Unfortunately its not the case. We will need 4-5 quality players next season. If we spend 25m on each and one of them y(some will probably cost 10m more) then we may well end up spending over 150m. That's the type of money we don't have.

What? Name one so.

Improving areas where we dont have among the best is progress. Rafael isnt one of the best right backs right now

And last season he was. The rest of our team is nowhere near the best either. Can't replace them all can we?

How much would Di Sciglio cost from a struggling AC Milan?

I have absolutely no idea. But from what I have seen of him he wouldn't come close to what Coleman has been doing since the start of last season (not that I am advocating buying him).

If we sign a defender it should be someone who can play both sides, and maybe in the middle as well.

Or, y'know, a younger model.

Was this your attitude when you signed Mata?

Our wingers are crap. I hoped the signing of Mata would signal an end to the likes of Valencia and Young playing most games and help us move away from the predictable style of playing it wide all the time.

I know Rafael is in poor form but considering he's only 23, rather than spending £25m on another right back couldn't Moyes maybe work with and improve him? I think that's what management is all about, but maybe I'm being old fashioned.

Adam lallana is having a great season. So is Jay Rodriguez. I reckon we should replace Rooney and Mata with them.

Oh ok didnt realise Lallana and Rodriguez are playing better than Rooney and RVP ever have. I guess we should.

Rafael isn't at the top of his game but I think he is vital to us with his drive and enthusiasm. I think Coleman is very good but I don't think he's going to end up better than Rafael and so would not be a worthwhile signing for us as he would cost a bomb. We really do have other areas of the team which we desperately need to improve before right back.

Well we just dont know how Rafael is going to "end up". A year ago you'd have said he'll get better not get injured and look as vulnerable as when he made his debut. At the same time we dont know how Coleman would settle at a new club. He's premiership proven and all the rest but its a gamble. At least with signing a player of his quality at right back we know we'd have someone who is playing well at right back whether it was a resurgent Rafael or Coleman came in and took his place. And no more Smalling at right back.

Who are some good alternatives who will do the same and play if Rafael isnt playing well? Dubuchy? 28 and Newcastle will probably ask for an over the top fee as well.

With all this in mind the left back slot is more of a priority, but right back shouldnt be neglected either. Especially without someone like Vidic to pull them out of the fire like Evra has had for so long. Whatever happens with our CB situation in the next year, we will not be able to have liabilities at fullback.

Rafael and zabaleta were the best full backs in the league last year. Coleman has been great this year but that doesn't mean Rafael won't get back to his best. Our whole side has took a massive dip in form.
