Seamus Coleman

Yeah, he's a great player, but Rafael is in my opinion the best right back in the league, and possibly europe.

Best right back in the league. Best young right back in Europe. He's still got some way to go before he's at Philipp Lahm level.

He looks good going forward because he has the headless chicken running style but I'm not sure how effective/productive he actually is. Was very good defensively tonight more than anything.

Winning freekicks can be effective enough as a fullback and he sure does that. Especially when you have a Baines or RVP to take them from that side

This guy is improving st a rate of knots. Lots of us Paddies a bit miffed at Moyes' reservations about his defensive cabilities after he burst on the scene but he was spot on. Honed his attacking instincts on the right side of midfield while developing his positional awareness and decision making. He's so much more solid looking now. Had a little moment in the first half there when Ben Arfa burst at him and he just knicked it off him and popped it off, so cool. And he panics people when he runs at them, no doubt, he makes stuff happen. Exciting to watch.

Probably one of the most promising full backs in the world if you're looking at both defensive/attacking ability and not solely one of the two.

He's getting me some decent fantasy league points so all good in terms of attacking contribution :D

And we got the usual 'please God no' comments at reports we were going to put in a bid. I really do dislike in the strongest sense a lot of our fans.

Far and away the best right back in the league 'so far' this season, absolutely no doubt about that. Was the best Everton player last night behind Barkley and Lukaku.

Irwin got laughed at for his ridic opinions on Valencia in that thread and they dont look to ridic now.

That's a pretty ridic thing to say given the best form in his career came over a year later.

I was right in saying that Coleman was player of great potential though, and I only said at the time that there was a chance Valencia might not come back from injury as good as before. I think the thing that people took most issue with the Valencia comments was the play both sides thing which was patently wrong by me. He's a right winger but had been swapped a few times mid game before that thread was made and I got excited.

Great player. Has come on fantastically. Hope the new ireland manager utilises him in a similar manor, he can cause right problems when the ball is kept on the ground.

The form wasn't sustained though.

I don't get the point you're making at all. Irwin suggested Valencia might not come back from the injury as the player he once was. Most of us worried about the same thing. The following season he was named United POTY and put any worries to bed.

He came back to a good level but didnt maintain it which could be because of the injury. In the same way Michael Owen never really recovered from his early career hamstring issues. Long shot but he looks a shadow of the player that was POTY.

I wouldn't hate his signing but RB is a position where there isn't that much worry with Rafael and there's also that Varela kid. If only Coleman was left footed he'd be a perfect player to sign.

Did Michael ever get back to his best after his injuries like Valencia ? I don't think so that's why I don't think Valencia's broken ankle is affecting his current performances at all. Two very different situations there.

Yeah. I think if Coleman moves it'll be to a club where he will be first choice and we can't offer him that here. We are short of cover for RB as the last few games have shown but you don't have two players like Coleman and Raf in the one squad imo. Would be a brilliant long term replacement for Evra if he was on that side indeed.

Fair enough.

Another good performance yesterday. Been the best RB in the league this season. He has really come on leaps and bounds this season.

He was well on his way to showing this type of consistency last season, too.

Himself and Baines were the best full-back pairing in the league in 2012/13.

He seemed to stagnate slightly in the 11/12 season when Moyes seemed intent on converting him into an attacking right midfielder. Last season he was impressive but this season he has been unbelievable, his attacking play has been absolutely sensational at times.

He was originally a RW in Sligo that was moved back to RB by Moyes.
